Sam Rockwell Has ’2 Weeks to Go’ In New ‘Moon’ Video Clip

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 9 2009 // 9:10 AM

sam-rockwell-moonOver at Yahoo Movies, they’ve got another new clip for the Sam Rockwell starrer Moon to share. Sadly, they won’t allow embeds, so you’ll have to go there to see it. This new clip features Rockwell, who stars as lunar miner Sam Bell, a man spending three years alone on the lunar surface overseeing a process that harvests energy from the moon.

Fortunately, he’s only got two weeks left before he can go home. Unfortunately, he’s starting to get “cabin fever” and is experiencing strange visions he can’t explain. All of this concerns his only companion on the moon, a computer named GERTY — played by Kevin Spacey in the film. As Bell’s time gets even shorter, his visions turn into something even more frightening and he starts to believe he’s not alone — someone or something is on the moon with him.

Think that sounds interesting? So do we. To fully experience just how cool we think this new movie is going to be, check out the trailer after the jump. Moon, starring Sam Rockwell and directed by Duncan Jones, hits theaters later this year.

How Da Vinci Helps Make You Da Man In ‘Assassin’s Creed II’

by John Carle, Jun 9 2009 // 7:45 AM

As reported last week here on The Flickcast, during Sony’s E3 Press Conference, the company announced that in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed II game the main character, Ezio, will be making hits during the Italian Renaissance. But unlike the first game, you won’t be going in to this on your own. You’ll have allies aiding you, teaching you and providing useful tools along the way.

The most important of these allies is the famed Leonardo Da Vinci, one of the greatest artists and thinkers of his time. As already demonstrated during Sony’s press conference, Ezio will have access to some of Da Vinci’s greatest inventions to help advance his cause. One prime example of this in the use of Da Vinci’s well known “flying machine”.

Now you might wonder why someone like Leonardo Da Vinci would associate himself with a killer. The answer to that lies in the essence of who Leonardo was. He was a futurist. He thought about what would be coming lifetimes ahead of him, as seen by many of his inventions that were the basis of many current technological marvels. In the first Assassin’s Creed, the assassin Altair worked for a guild that only assassinated those who deserved it. They put the needs of the many ahead of the needs of the few in their eyes.

Liam Neeson May Join Bradley Cooper In ‘The A-Team’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 9 2009 // 6:30 AM

liam-neesonAs we told you before, Bradley Cooper accidently confirmed he’s been cast in the role of Templeton “Faceman” Peck in director Joe Carnahan’s upcoming big screen incarnation of The A-Team. Now, according to Empire Online, we can potentially add another name to the A-Team casting mix. And that name is Liam Neeson.

According to the site, Neeson is in talks to join the A-Team as none other than Col. John “Hannibal” Smith, the leader of the disgraced team of elite soldiers wrongly accused of a crime and forced to flee to the Los Angeles underground. If true, this would mostly fill the enitre roster of team members with Cooper as “Face”, Common rumored to be a “lock” for B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus and Neeson as “Hannibal.”

All that would remain is the role of H.M “Howling Mad” Murdock, which if you believe rumors over at IMDB, is supposedly going to be Woody Harrelson. Not that rumors really mean all that much. However, with the film scheduled to begin production in Vancouver in August, we can expect to hear some actual confirmed casting very soon.

Once that’s done, we can then move on and start speculating on other stuff like the film’s story, if other cast members will include reporter Amy Allen, if the team will often fire hundreds of rounds from machine guns and not hit anyone and if cars will still explode in midair for no apparent reason.

The A-Team hits theaters on June 11, 2010.

‘Heroes’ Star Masi Oka Sets Up ‘Defenders’ At Dreamworks

by Joe Gillis, Jun 8 2009 // 6:37 PM

San Diego Convention CenterAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks has picked up The Defenders, a kid-friendly adventure story conceived by Heroes star Masi Oka, who plays Hiro on the show. The pic, to be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, also has D.J. Caruso in negotiations to take on directing duties. Writer Gary Whitta is on board to pen the script.

The story centers on a group of mostly teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game, each unaware of who they really are behind the anonymity of their avatars. When trouble arises, they are forced to come together for a real world adventure and become accidental heroes in the process.

According to THR, DreamWorks will also develop a video game simultaneously with the feature. Oka had met Kurtzman and taken a couple of meetings with them, hoping to land a role in one of their movies. The pair was looking for “the kinds of movies that Amblin used to do, that combined an innocence with the adventure,” Orci said in the article.

Oka, also a fan of those types of movies, which for him are epitomized by Richard Donner’s 1985 hit The Goonies, pitched Kurtzman and Orci his idea and they loved it. And the rest, as they say, is cinematic history. Gotta love Hollywod. Gives hope for the rest of us — especially if “the rest of us” are also on hit tv shows and have access to big-time writers and producers.

Katee Sackhoff Joins Jack Bauer On ’24′ Next Season

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2009 // 4:50 PM

katee-sackhoffGood news for all you fans of Battlestar Galactica and 24, you can now have both of those great tastes together in one great show. What the heck am I talking about? Well, Katee Sackhoff, who, of course, played Starbuck on BSG, will be joining the cast of Fox’s 24 next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently, negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks but are now finished with Sackhoff’s deal done. According to THR, Sackhoff will play CTU expert data analyst Dana Walsh who also has a secret past. She’s also involved with CTU agent Davis Cole (The recently cast Freddie Prinze Jr.) and you know on this show that never seems to go well.

In addition to Prinze, Jr., Sackhoff joins fellow new 24 cast members Jennifer Westfeldt, Mykelti Williamson, John Boyd and Chris Diamantopoulos for the Fox powerhouse’ 8th season. Looks like 24 is putting together quite a large ensemble for next season. Now that Starbuck is on boad the 24 train, who else do you think the show will surprise us with? Personally, I’m hoping for some Grace Park action — but I’m not holding my breath.

‘Twilight’s’ Gigandet to take on ‘Priest’

by Matt Raub, Jun 8 2009 // 1:45 PM

Coming off of the huge Twilight Saga success during last week’s MTV Movie Awards, Cam Gigandet, who plays James, the vampire baddie in the first film, has just been cast as yet another vampire.

This time, it will be in a Screen Gems film adaptation of the comic book Priest. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Gigandet will star opposite Paul Bettany in “Priest,” a horror Western that Scott Stewart is directing for Screen Gems.  Adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic book, “Priest” is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.  Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece. That latter part has yet to be cast.

Gigandet won an MTV Movie Award for his fight sequence with Robert Pattinson’s Edward in Twilight, and also won the previous year for his fight in the film Never Back Down, making him the first actor to win the award two years in a row.

The young actor can next be seen starring opposite Jenna Malone in the drama Five Star Day and opposite Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid in the Sci-Fi Horror Pandorum.

UPDATE - Apparently, according to a new interview at MTV Splashpage, Cam won’t exactly be playing a vampire in the new film. However, he is in the movie and it does contain “vampire-like” creatures. Draw your own conclusions from the interview posted after the jump.

Review: ‘The Hangover’

by David Press, Jun 8 2009 // 9:27 AM

hangover(Note: This review may contain some spoilers. Be warned.)

The  bottom line for The Hangover is that it is continually funny. Where with most comedies these days (Like Wedding Crashers) you remember “funny moments” and not that the entire movie was funny. This entire movie was funny. From the moment “Bearded-Wonder” Zack Galifianakis hugged it out with Justin Bartha in nothing but a jock strap and t-shirt all the way to Ed Helms kicking his over-controlling girlfriend to the curb, this movie was funny.

Directed by Old School‘s Todd Phillips, this is another comedic gem. Most of the people in this movie had always been supporting actors. Bradley Cooper most memorably known as Sidney Bristow’s reporter pal from Alias to Ed Helms from The Office. This movie, however, should prove to be the jumping off point for Zack Galifianakis’ career as the box office receipts shows that no one was interested in Land of the Lost and he was the funniest thing in the movie.

The Hangover is simple: four guys head to Vegas for a bachelor party and wake up the next morning with the groom missing, a tiger in the bathroom, and yaddi yaddi yadda–the trailer shows you all that. What it doesn’t show you is the non-stop-smart-as-shit one-liners performed naturally by three actors who are the cream of the crop in straight-faced dry sarcasm.

Apple’s World Wide Developer Confrence Kicks Off Today at 10AM

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2009 // 7:30 AM

apple-wwdc-logo09At The Flickcast we’re big fans of all things made by Apple. From Mac computers to iPods to the iPhone to Apple TV, we think Apple has its proverbial stuff together and makes some of the most innovative, interesting, useful and fun technology around. They are also a company fond of keeping secrets and don’t like to talk about new products until they absolutely have no other choice. Fortunately, there are a couple of times a year when Apple is forced to show its hand and talk about those new and upcoming products. The World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco is one such time.

Today at 10 AM Pacific, the WWDC kicks off with a keynote address by Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Product Marketing. During this address he will undoubtedly talk about such products as Mac OS X and the upcoming update to the iPhone’s software.

He may also mention a new version of the iPhone hardware sometime during the keynote. No matter what he ends up saying, its always pretty interesting to find out what Apple’s got up its sleeve. Also, whatever happens, we will definitely be talking about it during The Flickcast this week, so look for that brand new episode on Wednesday.

Finally, for all your WWWDC keynote coverage during the actual event, be sure to check in with my colleagues over at The Unofficial Apple Weblog. They’ve got it covered. Who knows, I may drop by over there as well.

Here’s the official word from Apple about the WWDC via press release (After the jump, of course).

New Trailer and Videos for ‘Stargate Universe’ Now Online

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2009 // 6:30 AM

phillips-stargate-universeOver at Sci-Fi Channel’s official Stargate Universe site they’ve posted some new video footage incouding a couple “sneak peeks” and a trailer for your enjoyment. This series picks up the Stargate mantle where the previous three series left off and features a pretty decent cast including Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na and Robert Carlyle.

The story, although still Stargate in many respects, is also a bit different this time around. It concerns the purpose of the so-called ‘Ninth Cheveron” and the team assigned to investigate it. This investigation leads them to a mysterious and ancient ship called “Destiny” and once there, they become trapped aboard as the ship races on its programmed mission. The team, unable to change the ship’s programming or course, are along for the ride — wherever it takes them.

During the trip they encounter new races, new technologies, new enemies and maybe even a few friends as the ship takes them on a journey to the end of the Universe. I don’t know about you but that actually sounds pretty interesting to me. Plus, Robert Carlyle is good in pretty much anything he does so his inclusion in this series makes it even more likley I’ll check it out when it hits the air this Fall.

Kirsten Dunst ‘Definitely’ Back for ‘Spider-Man 4′, Villain Still a Mystery

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 7 2009 // 9:38 AM

kirsten_dunstWill all the speculation of late on the identity of the villains, if Mary Jane would be back and what the story is of Spider-Man 4, its nice to get at least some kind of confirmation on something regarding the film. What am I talking about? At least now we know Mary Jane will be in the film and Kirsten Dunst will be playing her.

According to an interview with the New York Post while doing press for The Taking of Pelham 123, Spider-Man 4 producer Todd Black was asked a few questions about his other upcoming movie that fans are, shall we say, a bit more enthusiastic about. According to Black in the interview, here’s a few tidbits of info about Spider-Man 4 he was able to drop:

Kirsten Dunst is definitely on board. Last month, director Sam Raimi said in another interview he didn’t know if the actor was going to sign up to play Mary Jane again, but according to Black, she has. Also, the movie will most likely not have a wedding between Mary Jane and Peter Parker. According to the Post, Black had no knowledge of that subplot. Also, the villain will not be Morbius the vampire. Black squashed that rumor completely in the interview.

As for who will be the villain, Black had this to say in the interview: “We’re just coming up with who the villain’s going to be now. We’ll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it’ll be a big part of New York.” Black also confirmed in the interview that the villain will be one from the comics and not a character invented for the film.

So, now that we know that, who could the “big bad” be? Even with those clues its still pretty much a mystery. However, if I had to guess, I would go with the Kingpin, just as the writer of the Post article suggested. It seems plausable and he does have ties to New York, so he might just fit the bill. Anyone else have any suggestions?

New Images of Sam Worthington In ‘Clash of the Titans’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 6 2009 // 11:40 AM

clash-of-the-titans-worthington-1-smallI’ve been pretty excited about this film since I first heard about it a few months ago. The original Clash of the Titans was epic cinematic camp and featured Harry Hamlin, Ursula Andress and Laurence Olivier as Zeus. Now, they’re remaking it under the direction of Louis Leterrier, the man who brought Hulk back from the cinematic brink last year — and we’ve got some pictures to prove it.

Warner Brothers, the kind and generous people that they are, have released some nice images for Clash of the Titans which are better than the ones which originally appeared in Empire and Entertainment Weekly. The new pics (Taken by Jay Maidment) show Sam Worthington as Perseus, who goes on a quest to save Andromeda and defeat Hades, the god of the underworld.

Liam Neeson follows in the footsteps of Olivier and plays Zeus, the wise yet often angry and spiteful king of the gods who’s also Perseus’ father. Ralph Fiennes plays Hades, ruler of the underworld, who plans to destroy Zeus and rule over everything and everyone. Yes, these pictures are pretty cool and it looks like Worthington has got the sword-wielding thing down pretty well. But no shots of Medusa? Come on, that’s got to be in the movie or it just isn’t Clash of the Titans.

I’m sure they’re probably saving that for later. At least I hope so. The new Clash of the Titans opens on March 26, 2010. Check out the pics in bigger sizes after the jump.
