In honor of this week’s episode of The Flickcast (aptly named after the sequel to 1993′s Jurrasic Park), I thought we could keep with our dinosaur theme of the week.
There is plenty of intellectual comedy on the ‘net, so it’s nice when something like this comes along to break the mold and still warrants a chuckle or two. Take a look at what would happen if the Jurrasic Park dinosaurs didn’t roar, but rather yelled “HEYYYY!”.
It’s only about 90 seconds, but you may want to watch it multiple times. Enjoy.
This is one of the times where the vocal minority needs to help save a book. If Spider-Girl could be saved, this book most certainly deserves it. Unless something happens in the final issue #15 that prevents the characters from being able to appear in future issues like the entire nation of England being nuked off the map, there is no reason the series shouldn’t continue.
At the New York Comic Con this past February, Paul Cornell was praised for his work on the series. Now months later, it is being brought to an end far too soon. The past few months, the book has fallen just short of the top 100 comics in terms of sales which may be why Marvel is giving it the axe despite being the best Captain Britain series in recent memory, especially after the dismal storytelling of New Excalibur.
By the end of the previous issue, the war between Dracula and his vampire army and the nation of Britain had taken a huge toll. Captain Britain had been expelled from his country as Spitfire had turned on her own team, resulting in the deaths of Pete Wisdom, the Black Knight and Fauza. Blade also turned his back on the battle and walked away. The hardest part of this issue is to describe the events that happen within because of the sheer volume of spoilers it would contain. Most of the enjoyment of the issue comes from the surprises that come up that would only be ruined if I tried to describe the plot in detail here.
Usually comics lend themselves to the “holy crap” moments with a stunning final panel setting up for the next issue. This issue bucks that trend in its first few pages. What follows is a great example of Leonard Kirk’s fantastic pencils of action scenes combined with the dry British dialogue that Paul Cornell has mastered so well, probably since he hails from Britain it gives him an unfair advantage writing it. Kirk also does a great job with the way he draws blood in the issue. Often times, gory battles can come across as gratuitous.
Rumors and speculation are circulating around the Internets this morning that Lionsgate and NU Image/Millennium films have finally cast the main role of Conan in their upcoming reboot of the franchise. Apparently, 41-year-old Austrian actor Roland Kickinger is in talks to play the title role that Arnold Schwarzenegger made famous in the 1982 classic Conan the Barbarian.
Sure, that makes sense, they want someone similar to Arnold, right? But wait, it gets a bit odder. Like Schwarzenegger, Kickinger is a bodybuilder- turned-actor from Austria. And, Kickinger also had a role as a T-800 in the Terminator franchise, which he plays in Warner Bros.’ current Terminator Salvation. And, to push it even farther over the edge, Kickinger actually played Schwarzenegger in a movie — the 2005 A&E biopic about the actor-turned-politician called See Arnold Run. I know, right?
For the moment, the deal isn’t done and few details on the new movie have been revealed. Filming is expected to start in the fall in Bulgaria and as we told you before, Marcus Nispel, of New Line’s recent Friday the 13th reboot, is set to direct. At least if Kicklinger does end up playing the role of Conan, his name is a lot easier to spell — which is great for those of us who will have to write it a thousand times until the movie comes out.

If you don’t get an iPhone 3G S today because they sell out and you didn’t pre-order one in advance from Apple or AT&T, try not to get too upset. You can bet that Apple and AT&T want to put these devices into the hands of anyone who wants one. So, that means they will always make more and will keep shipping them out until every man woman and child has one. We know its tough but you’ll just have to be patient.
You’ve spent probably hundreds of hours since Halo came out with the original XBox in 2001 fighting as Master Chief against the Covenant and Flood forces and battling your friends online in Halo 2 and 3. And as much as we all love Master Chief, a change of pace doesn’t hurt every now and then.
With the upcoming September 22nd release of Halo 3: ODST, you will be able to step in the shoes of different UNSC soldiers for the first time as you play through the events that take place right before the start of Halo 3 as various Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST’s) in their defense of the city of New Mombasa. Also for the first time for those who preorder the game, you’ll have the opportunity to step in to the shoes of one of the most recognizable supporting characters in the Halo universe in the game’s new Firefight cooperative multiplayer mode, Sergeant Avery Johnson.
Longtime players will recognize Sgt. Johnson as the gruff, trucker mouth, cigar smoking UNSC commander who plays a pivotal role throughout the Halo game franchise, often interacting with Master Chief during missions. Fans of the Halo novel series will also know Sgt. Johnson as the main character of Contact Harvest, where he was one of the characters present for the first contact between the UNSC forces and the Covenant. Obviously, we all know how that turned out.
Over at First Showing they’ve got the brand new trailer for director Roland Emmerich’s 2012. In this new movie, as in several of his previous films such as Independence Day and The Day after Tomorrow, Emmerich reminds us that life is precious and so are our world’s natural resources. In fact, he kinda beats us over the head with it.
In this new film, based on the theory of the Mayan calendar telling us the world will come to an end in 2012, Emerich takes his job seriously once again and shows us that not only will the earth come to an end in 2012 but also that we will not, under any circumstances, enjoy it. In fact, it will be a giant pain in the butt full of tidal waves, earthquakes and fire raining down from the sky. Awesome.
Fortunately, as he’s also done in other films, Emmerich makes the destruction of out beloved planet at least look good. I guess that’s something, right? 2012 hits theaters and seals our fate November 13 .

Just about a month away from the release of Watchmen on DVD here in the US, Germany has already announced out their own special box set of Zack Snyder’s film adaptation. Exclusive to the Amazon Germany this August, folks over there are able to order the special edition DVD inside of a rare and bizarre-looking “Roarschach head” that probably won’t fit on their DVD shelf.
Essentially, Germany got the short end of the stick when it comes to a cool-looking Watchmen box set. It’s considered to be an “Amazon Exclusive”, which is the equivelant to the US’s exclusive Nite Owl Ship Bundle, only creepier.
The head opens up to reveal the DVD set on the inside with, what looks to be, bare essentials, while the US-Exclusive ship opens to reveal a slew of DVD’s and extras.
With the corpse of his former show, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, barely even cold, Brian Austin Green has already moved on. According to TV Guide, the former Beverly Hills 90210 star will take up residence in a new, probably far-less glamorous, zip code: Smallville.
Green will join the show next season for at least two episodes as, oddly enough given his last TV gig playing someone who killed cyborgs, t, the kryptonite-powered cyborg Metallo. Green will, of course, also appear as Metallo’s alter-ego, Daily Planet reporter John Corben. No word on if the actor’s role will be expanded beyond the initial episodes. Guess that depends on the ratings.
Actually, I’m kinda glad Green is getting more acting gigs. His work on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was actually pretty good and went a long way to help me forget David Silver. Who knows, if there ends up being another Terminator feature film (and there probably will) perhaps we’ll see Green pop up in that one as well? He seems to like cyborgs so anything’s possible.
The ninth, and presumably last, season of Smallville premieres Friday, September 25th on The CW.
This week’s “Pull of the Week” Captain America #600 has already sold out. The epic 600 issue series milestone has been announced to go to a second printing with a variant cover featuring the interior art splash page from artist Butch Guice. Following the mainstream media attention the issue received and the comic being released on Monday as opposed to the regular Wednesday ship date, this has been the most talked about issue of Captain America since Steve Rogers was shot and killed two years ago.
About the milestone issue, David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice-President of Sales & Circulation, had this to say: “First and foremost, I’d like to thank all those retailers who made this amazing event possible by participating in this special advance release on Monday. Despite what might have been the largest overprint we’ve ever done for a book, copies sold out well before even the early on sale date.”
“This is a great indicator for the excitement that we’re anticipating for Captain America Reborn,” he continued. “We’d also like to thank the fans and press for getting behind Captain America #600. Trust me, you’re in for a lot of fun and we’re glad to have you along for the ride! ”

Funny People, this summer’s collaboration between Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler, looks to be shaping up into quite the film. As of late, it looks like the marketing team has taken a few tips from last year’s Tropic Thunder as the website George-Simmons.com goes live.
George Simmons is the pseudo-biographical main character that Sandler is playing in Funny People, who has done a string of bad comedies over the years. With the launch of the site, we now get a peak at some of the very bad comedies…and they’re actually pretty funny. Of course, the clips are meant to be bad on purpose, but it’s nice to see Hollywood turn a mirror on some of the bad stories that have been in recent films.
For example, here’s the synopsis for the fake film Re-Do:
Craig, a workaholic lawyer, never made time for his relationships. Alone and depressed on his 40th birthday, he wonders about the life he could have lead. But be careful what you wish for…you might just find yourself in diapers! When a wizard gives Craig a second chance at his youth, he discovers that sometimes it takes becoming a baby to learn how to be a man.

Aside from some potentially disturbing images, news has been pretty quiet about casting for Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. But recently, G4′s Olivia Munn, host of Attack of the Show, tweeted on Twitter that she’s working on two new film projects, one being the Tina Fey/Steve Carell project Date Night, and one that she couldn’t “legally” discuss.
It turns out that the film in question is Iron Man 2 and the general assumption is that she will have more of a cameo, showing up in a scene or two. Munn did, however, say on Twitter that she will “definitely” have a bigger part than her one-minute scene in Rob Schneider’s direct-to-DVD film Big Stan.
Aside from Stan, Munn can soon be seen in Broken Lizard’s Slammin’ Salmon, and of course every day on G4′s Attack of the Show, where they just announced Munn’s (clothed) appearance in the August/July issue of Playboy.

When it comes to posters, there have been some pretty bad ones released lately, from poor photoshopping to a complete lack of creativity, they have all been less than decent. But finally, a poster has come along for a film that looks to be a little more than decent. I’m talking about the new Italian poster for Quentin Tarantino’s Iglorious Basterds.
For those not aware, Basterds is about a group of Jewish-American soldiers during World War II known as “The Basterds”, led by Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), who are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.
The poster shows off Pitt doing his “nat-zee scalp hunting” face, along with Eli Roth (left), Christoph Waltz (right) and Diane Kruger (top). We’ve already seen a few clips from the film and heard about the astounding reaction from Cannes, now we have a cool-looking poster to hold us over until the film’s release on August 21.
