Thanks for an excellent review. Endorse what Mickie says about the "Eagle" squadrons. These were the yanks who volounteered, and I suspect they were officially nominated as i.e. "No.72 (Eagle) Squadron" to avoid the complications for all concerned of designating them "No. 72 (USA) Squadron" since unlike the Poles, Czechs(etc), who were officially designated with their country of origin, the USA was still officially "neutral".

My apologies good sir. I was under the impression that the Eagle Squadrons consisted of foreign pilots, (the R.A.F. version of the French foreign legion.) I'm more familiar with the history pertaining to the American units which began combat ops starting in 1942-43. I look forward to any feedback. I Hope you enjoyed the review otherwise.

The Eagle Squadrons 72 121 and 133 were formed from American Pilots who joined the Royal Air Force to fight in Britain prior to the U.S.A. entering the war. After the U.S.A. entered the war they were transferred to the American Air Force. Czechs and Poles did not serve in the Eagle Squadrons, but served intheri own Squadrons Numbered 302-303, 308-309, and 315-Squadrons, often with their own Officers but usually with a Royal Air Force Officer in overall charge.

Yours Sincerely: Mickie Collins, Ex Royal Air Forcce.
