My God, how you managed to write a cohesive article about the most chopped up piece of western prairie is beyond me. That's why they pay you the big bucks. (wink wink) Seriously though, I watched this film with you, and you understood more of it than I did, and managed to explain all that was wrong with it while I was simply tongue tied by what my eyes refused to believe. How had I ever remembered this film as good? Why did I remember it with fondness? The opening sequences as each character makes there appearance gives you such hope. What a cast! OMG its adorable baby Costner in a too small cowboy hat and a fringed outfit acting like he's, well... special. And heart of my heart, if that darling boy isn't enough there's my beloved Scot Glenn... And then, the bottom dropped out. Bits and pieces of sagebrush and potential plot are just blowing all over the place. I just sat and watched the fallout. What the heck was this mess? Great characters, great story lines, great sets, great snowy mountains...seriously, how often do you ever see a western take place in the winter, in SNOW?! All that and then one big nothing.

But, in Silverado are glimpes of great things to come. Hollywood was on the right track, reviving the western and doing in right. Real western locale, more realistic sets and costumes. Getting the historical accuracy in there and all the delicious details. Lonesome Dove was on the horizon. So, if nothing else, Silverado did help give birth to some great wide open spaces and gambling halls to come. Great article. Where will our wagon wheels be taking us next? My carpet bag is packed, wagon's ho!
