The final night street chase with the blackhawk running overwatch and then getting shot down was some bitchin' action. I didn't have any problem following the action at night. I also thought the grainy low light scenes in the film added to the realism, it is harder to see at night. I do agree it would have been better if the film gave us a clearer understanding of the real motives behind the invasion. But I guess a lot of the reasons are still a mystery aren't they?
