With anticipation growing for director Jimmy Hayward’s big screen adaptation of the Jonah Hex comic, you can be sure we’re gong to be seeing more and more stuff from the marketing people as the film gets closer to release. Case in point is this brand new trailer for the film, which first appeared at IGN.

The film, a supernatural western tale of revenge featuring a scarred bounty hunter with magical abilities (Josh Borlin), the prostitute who helps him (Megan Fox) and the bad guy who must be stopped (John Malkovich), looks pretty awesome. In fact, if this trailer is anything like the finished film, I think DC and Warner Bros. just might have a hit on their hands.

Welcome back to Western Wednesdays!  I apologize for losing sight of the trail last week — but let us be stern frontiersmen and women, and not dwell on past failings.

This past week, everyone (including myself) has been eating up the wild wild West in the form of Red Dead Redemption.  I’ve spent hours herding cattle, taming mustangs, and shooting horse thieves, thoroughly enjoying the experience of playing in this genre rather than simply watching it.   So when it came time to pick a film for this week, it was tempting to go for one that reflected the gritty nature of the game.

But then I thought hey, why not go for the exact opposite of Red Dead Redemption? Why not delve into a corner of the genre I’ve dodged thus far, and visit the singing cowboys?   Surely, there was no one more unlike the scarred John Marston than Gene Autry.  So, I selected Tumbling Tumbleweeds and prepared for some wholesome, musical fun.

Now, I had a very specific image of the singing cowboy. They were squeaky clean guys in pretty, fringe decorated shirts and ornamental gunbelts. They had horses with cute names.   They never got dirty, and their movie plots centered around rescuing lost little dogies or kids who wandered onto the prairie. If they shot a gun, it was never to kill, but to startle or warn.

We’re all pretty big fans of the horror genre here in The Flickcast. We’ve had many a heated debate about the popularity of Paranormal Activity and lack of popularity of Cloverfield. Basically, the new concept of “first-person horrors” has us intrigued, along with the rest of the country. In picking up on that trend, producer Eli Roth has released the first trailer for his newest film, The Last Exorcism.

The film follows in the trend of a Cloverfiled or Paranormal in the sense that it’s a documentary (mockumentary?) about uncovering some mysterious things that took place to a family in the Midwest. Things get even weirder when the documentarian comes to discover that the daughter of the family is actually possessed.

There are some neat horror devices that we can see in the trailer, some interesting first-person camera tricks, but it looks like it could be an entertaining film, to say the least. Between the poster and the first promotional image we got, the filmmaker seems to be smitten with the shot of actress Ashley Bell bent over backwards.

With this technique turning plenty of heads in Hollywood, it’s possible that we can see more and more genres adopting this style for use on a spec script (see something like District 9).

(Intro to be read in Carrie Bradshaw’s voice-over): There I was, on my way to meet one of my gal pals for a early screening of Sex in the City 2. I’d pulled out my best pair of shoes from Target and paired it with my favorite perfectly worn blue jeans and a top from Forever 21. It was going to be a great night. The Cosmos would pour freely, and my friend and I were certainly in for a little female bonding while watching a fabulous film.

But I couldn’t help wondering while I drove toward the beckoning lights of downtown-do we really need a sequel to Sex and the City? After all, the first movie seemed to be the perfect little send-off for the fans.

Society has been resisting the opulent due to all the financial funk, and I couldn’t decide if this movie depicting the NYC foursome enjoying a decadent Middle Eastern vacation is what people want to see right now.

In the case of a sequel, is less more?

I don’t know much about Michael Patrick King, but that man knows how to indulge. Lavish set pieces, lush scenery, and colorful (though their beauty is highly debatable) costumes abound, and as pure escapism, the movie works. Once you start analyzing the plot and genuinely start to critique the movie, it absolutely falls apart, but I don’t think the target demographic for this movie will care.

Fans of the show who have been eagerly anticipating this film will not be disappointed. They know exactly what they are getting into, and I don’t think anyone expects to have their mind blown over this film. Let’s face it, this is the female equivalent of Transformers. It’s an event movie. and it has a built-in audience.

This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt are joined once again by recurring guest host Elisbeth Rappe. This time around the trio takes on a handful of new and returning topics including the Lost series finale, finales of other TV shows like 24, what it takes to produce a weekly television program, news on various upcoming feature film projects and a whole lot more.

The trio also makes some great picks this week including Elisabeth’s pick of Captain Ron, another film featuring Kurt Russell with an eye patch, Matt’s pick of the Michael Cera starrer Youth in Revolt and Chris’ pick of the 1960 Stanley Kubrick classic Spartacus.

Back in 2006, Apple ran the first of many different variations of “friendly warfare” commercials, which pretty much portrayed the competition (Microsoft) as a nerdy, uncool, unorganized human (played by John Hodgman), while the “Mac” was a cool, casual, suave human (played by Justin Long).

After four years the aptly titled “Get a Mac” ad campaign is coming to an end. Apple’s site has changed over to the “Why You’ll Love a Mac” page, and Justin Long even suggested a few months back that the ads were starting to dry up and he didn’t see them continuing much longer.

Losing their edge or not, it was always a treat for Apple fans to get these ads sandwiched into spot breaks between our favorite shows. Hodgman, who was also a regular contributor to The Daily Show, garnered certain fame from the campaign and has even been invited to give commencement speeches at several universities.

We’ll always remember the epic promotional campaign, and some of our favorites as well. After the jump, check out one of those personal favorites, guest starring the amazing Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean.

Sure, it’s great fun to watch your favorite shows on TV and experience them as a viewer. But what if you could actually participate in one of these shows instead of just watch?

Well, that’s possible now, especially if one of your favorite shows happens to be HBO’s True Blood. What am I talking about? The good folks at Charitybuzz, in conjunction with the show, are auctioning off a featured walk-on role in the series to the highest bidder.

As if that wasn’t enough already, proceeds from the auction will benefit GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network. Bidding is open through June 2 at Charitybuzz, which is one of the leading destinations for online charity auctions.

To get in on the action, head on over to the website for the auction and start bidding. True Blood Season 3 starts June 13th on HBO, so you better hurry.

Any film geek, be they fans of sci-fi or adventure, has fallen victim to the charm of Harrison Ford at one point or another. Whether it was for Han Solo, Rick Deckard or Indiana Jones, we’ve all rooted for Ford as the main character for years. As of late, his roles have been simplified to running around demanding his family back, or ruining our childhood with a rehashed sequel. Finally, Ford is trying on a new old hat: playing the comic relief.

The first trailer for Morning Glory hit this week, which stars the always lovely Rachel McAdams as a morning TV show producer who needs to help boost her career by keeping the oil and water of Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton’s characters together and happy every morning.

The film has got geek cred all over it, from Sherlock Holmes‘ McAdams, to Ford, to Watchmen’s Patrick Wilson and Jeff Goldblum. The film is even produced by J.J. Abram’s Bad Robot production company, and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who will also be writing a new Abrams project in 2012.

Beginning today, retail juggernaut Wal-Mart is slashing the price of Apple’s 16GB 3GS iPhone to just $97 with a standard two-year contract. The new lower price will save consumers just over $100 off the normal $199 price-point.

Apple is widely expected to launch a brand-new iPhone model next month, and this new lower price-point could indicate they are working with retailers to clear out any remaining inventory of the soon-to-be-outdated model. Interestingly, other retailers have not yet followed suit. The 16GB 3GS is still priced for $199 on Apple’s Web site and that of its partners, including electronics retailer Best Buy.

Apple has reportedly sold 8.3 million iPhones during last quarter, more than twice the amount sold during the same period in 2009. A recent furor erupted when an Apple engineer reportedly left Apple’s newest iPhone model in a local bar near the company’s Silicon Valley headquarters. Popular gadget site, Gizmodo managed to acquire the iPhone, running dozens of pictures and performing a full tear-down and review of the upcoming model’s features.

According to Gizmodo’s extensive coverage on the subject, some of the new iPhone features may include a front-facing video chat camera, improved regular back-camera with a larger lens and flash, a micro-SIM instead of standard SIM, an improved display that seems to run at 960×640 resolution,  a secondary mic for noise cancellation, along with numerous other minor refinements and enhancements.

Wal-Mart is selling both white and black 16GB models and they are only available for sale in-store, not online.

Now that this season of primetime TV is coming to a close, we have a few bright spots on the horizon. We’ve been bringing you some of the newest Fall schedules, along with a few previews of upcoming shows we think look cool. Keeping up with that theme we bring you a sneak peak at ABC’s new superhero comedy No Ordinary Family.

From a distance, the story plays out like a live-action version of The Incredibles, but upon closer inspection it actually has a bit more depth. Michael Chiklis plays Jim Powell, a regular husband and father who, alongside his wife and two children, are in an accident that give each of them unique powers. His wife, Stephanie (played by Dexter’s Julie Benz) develops super speed, while his children develop telepathy and other extraordinary mind powers. Jim, however, leads the family with the gift of invulnerability and super strength.

There are some obvious and great connections to former Chiklis projects in the pilot, such as his work as Ben Grimm/The Thing in Fantastic Four, and the fact that he plays a cop again, much like The Shield or The Commish.

The pilot has the potential to be exactly what NBC’s Heroes wasn’t for a lot of fans, and could be a fun, quirky family comedy with a comic book backdrop. Check out the trailer after the jump and be sure to keep an eye (and a DVR) out for No Ordinary Family this Fall on ABC.
