Motorola Droid Shadow Found In A Gym

by Cortney Zamm, May 25 2010 // 1:00 PM

If you were carrying around an unreleased, brand-new version of an incredibly popular cell phone, wouldn’t you be a little more careful with it? That’s the question everyone was asking when Apple’s next version of the iPhone was found abandoned in a bar last month. Today, Gizmodo reports a similar scenario where the newest version of Motorola’s Android device, the Motorola Droid Shadow, was found and photographed at a Verizon corporate gym.

Before the phone was remotely locked, the Verizon employee who discovered the phone uncovered a text stating that the phone was most definitely “unreleased”, so we know this phone is a legit find. Exclusive to Verizon Wireless, the Motorola Droid Shadow will feature an 8 MP camera capable of shooting at 720p video, a 4.3 inch screen, and is expected to run Android’s newest software, Android Froyo.

The phone will also feature 16 GB of internal storage, a Snapdragon processor, and an HDMI out port, all confirmed by the Verizon employee who found the phone. The Motorola Droid Shadow will be out sometime in June or July.

If you’re anxious to get your hands on the Shadow, keep your eyes peeled because someone else might just casually leave one around for you to find. Or, you could always pick up HTC’s Droid Incredible or the original Motorola Droid, two awesome devices exclusive to the Verizon network.

‘Mass Effect’ Heading to the Big Screen

by Joe Gillis, May 25 2010 // 12:00 PM

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that a game like EA’s Mass Effect will be coming to the big screen. After all, the game is hugely successful and has spawned a sequel that has taken the gaming world by storm.

And now, according to reports, Legendary Pictures has picked up rights to Mass Effect and will develop it into a potential franchise. I Am Legend and Thor writer Mark Protosevich is currently in negotiations to handle adapting the game for the big screen.

Just in case you don’t play video games or haven’t, for some reason, heard of Mass Effect, the game debuted in 2008 and is a sci-fi action game set in the year 2183, focusing on a human soldier and his starship, the SSV Normandy. It features alien races, combat and technology which spans the galaxy offering a great deal of diverse situations and role play. In short, its a pretty darn fun game and would probably make a great movie.

Seeing as how this film is in the early stages and these kinds of movies tend to take a long time to make it to the screen, especially if you want to do it right, expect to see us bringing you more info on Mass Effect the movie over the next year at least. Until then, go back and play the game again and imagine what could be.

To help you, take a look at the Mass Effect 2 trailer after the jump.

Brand New Trailer for ‘True Blood’ Season 3 Hits the ‘Net

by Chris Ullrich, May 25 2010 // 11:00 AM

It’s been many longs months without being able to see the further adventures of our favorite show about vampires, voodoo and crazy accents. Fortunately, HBO’s hit series True Blood is about to return to the small screen and I, for one, couldn’t be happier about it.

During the time leading up to the season premiere, we’ve had some stuff to share with you about the new season including news on the minisodes of the series and a trailer. Now, we’ve got a new trailer to bring you today and this one proves to be even better than the last. This time around we get more details on the fates and new predicaments of our favorite residents of Bon Temps, LA.

Judging from this new trailer, things are going to be getting even more serious, and more sexy, once the new season kicks off. And I thought things were pretty serious and sexy last season.

Don’t worry, you’ll only have to wait until June 13th for new episodes. Until then, check out the brand new trailer after the jump.

Marvel’s Heroic Age Avengers & Online Dating: The Perfect Match?

by Diane Panosian, May 25 2010 // 10:00 AM

Marvel and Brian Bendis have finally announced the new line-up for the new Avengers book. No, I’m not talking about the new New Avengers book, but the latest, newest, Avengers…grrr arg, you know what I mean. In a year celebrating the “Women of Marvel,” the promo cover is notably lacking a femme fatale. Perhaps, Marvel thinks the mere sight of 5 hunky heroes is enough to keep a woman’s attention. But, Marvel you can not fool me.

These men are totally skrully. On paper, they’re the perfect man- what with their gleaming tights and super-powery goodness, but delve just a month or two into their past and they‘re a hot mess. Talk about baggage, it would take the whole of Stark, errr Avengers Tower to hold the amount of baggage these 5 guys carry.

I feel bad for any lady thrown into the mix and forced to put up with them on a daily basis. Dating one of them, however, would take considerably less effort as any time they have free is minimal. This is actually a good thing- all the fun without the lasers, gamma rays, and missiles firing at you. So, below I’ve lifted snippets from their potential online dating profiles and given a behind-the-masks reality assessment for your viewing pleasure. Go ahead and wink, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

‘Official’ Trailer and Poster for ‘The Killer Inside Me’ Now Online

by Chris Ullrich, May 25 2010 // 9:00 AM

Previously, we brought you an extended trailer for director Michael Winterbottom’s upcoming film The Killer Inside Me. Sadly, as we found out later, it wasn’t the “official’ release and was subsiquently removed from the Internets. That was unfortunate because the trailer, and the movie, looked quite interesting.

Fortunately, the studio has now seen fit to release the trailer “officially” into the wild and, of course, we’ve got it for you right here. This trailer isn’t all that different from the previous one and still features the film’s stars Casey Affleck, Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba doing what they do best. It also has a great look and intriguing premise. However, it doesn’t go quite a far as the last one did and is obviously more for general consumption. I’m sure we’ll see a “Red Band” version of this soon enough.

In case you’ve forgotten what the film is about, its based on the novel by Jim Thompson, who also wrote the novels The Grifters and The Getaway, and features Affleck as Sheriff Lou Ford who, on the surface, is an upstanding citizen and upholds the law. But underneath, Ford hides a dark secret that leads him to places he may not want to go but feels compelled to explore.

The Killer Inside Me also features Bill Pulman, Simon Baker, Ned Beatty and Elias Koteas. It hits theaters and On Demand June 18th. Check out the trailer and a larger version of the poster after the jump.

Fox Picks Up ‘Glee’ For Another Two Seasons

by Matt Raub, May 25 2010 // 8:00 AM

We all know the effect that Fox’s Glee has had on the nation. It’s brought the high school drama, soap opera, musical, and hour-long comedy together once a week, all while providing the world with a popular soundtrack every few episodes. It seems that Fox realizes what the have in Glee as they have picked up the show for an unprecedented two more seasons.

Before even finishing its first season, the genre-defying, award-winning, underdog comedy GLEE has been picked up through its third season, it was announced today by Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Networks Group; and Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“In just one year, GLEE has transcended the television landscape and emerged as a global pop culture phenomenon,” said Rice. “We are incredibly proud to have talent like Ryan Murphy and the GLEE cast in our FOX family, and we can’t wait to see where Ryan takes the show in Seasons Two and Three.”

This news comes as no shock to anyone who has seen Glee take over the lives of so many people, in both the TV and DVD world, as well as iTunes and CD. In the US alone, the first two Glee albums reached nearly 7 million downloads and their most recent album, The Power of Madonna, debuted at number 1, helping them surpass the power group U2 with the most Billboard charting songs of the past 10 years.

In tonight’s episode, entitled “Theatricality”, the gang delves into the world of Lady GaGa, and find out what it takes to become a true star, in every sense of the word. Catch the episode on Fox at 9PM ET/PT.

Google’s Launch of Encrypted Search an Industry First

by Erik Jensen, May 25 2010 // 7:00 AM

Google with SSLOn Friday, Google quietly rolled out a new beta feature for it’s core search service, dubbed ‘Google with SSL.’ While a post on the official Google blog implied that while this new secure connection would eventually be made available on the vast majority of its ancillary services, only the core search property would be part of this public beta for now.

Most consumers are used to seeing banking or e-commerce services use what are known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections to encrypt information that travels between your computer and their service. However this is a first for any major search engine and something that competitors Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing have yet to implement.

Usually recognized by a web address starting with “https” along with a browser lock icon, this technology is regularly used to secure log-in areas and to prevent sensitive data from being intercepted. But now, search users will be able to take advantage of this privacy-enhancing feature to help protect their search terms and their search results pages from being intercepted by a third party on your network.

U.S.-based users can begin using the new secure version of Google Search by simply adding a ‘https://’ in front of the standard ‘www.google.com’ URL. The new secure search mode will be rolled out to the rest of the world over the next few days.

Fans of ‘LOST’ Will Get Their Answers….On The DVD

by Matt Raub, May 24 2010 // 4:00 PM

For those of you who watched last night’s 2 and a half hour Lost finale, you know that these things happened (spoiler free): We get some kind of finality for some of the characters, but we still have plenty of unanswered questions about the mysteries of the island.

It turns out that even though writer/creators Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse still got 2.5 hours (not to mention two hours of recap and a special farewell episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live), they still had more story to tell. In fact, they have roughly 20 minutes more. And no, as funny as they are, those Jimmy Kimmel alternate endings don’t count.

In an attempt to keep you invested even longer, Lindelof and Cuse are giving you the answers you’ve waited 6 years for. To get them, you only have to wait 3 more months.

Said to be attached to the upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray release of the complete series is an additional 20 or so minutes of content that didn’t make it into the series finale. This will allegedly give us answers to questions about the light in the tunnel, as well as finally give us the name of the Man in Black.

Be sure to keep your eyes out for marketing, as Lost: The Complete Collection comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 25th.

Check Out Previews for Tonight’s ‘Chuck’ Season Finale

by Chris Ullrich, May 24 2010 // 3:00 PM

Fortunately, one of our favorite shows will be coming back next year so tonight’s two-hour season finale of Chuck isn’t all that sad. Well, at least the fact that the series is having a season finale isn’t sad. The episode itself? Perhaps.

To get you in the mood for tonight, we’ve got not one, but two clips about the show. In them, you get to see stars Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski discuss the finale and the super-secret ending that will surely turn everything in Chuck world upside down. Then, check out all the action in a clip from the actual episode and marvel at how the show’s creative team make it look so good after having their budget cut for this season.

All the action kicks off tonight at 8/7C on NBC. Until then, check out both clips after the jump.

Brand New ‘Splice’ Clip and Poster Arrive

by Chris Ullrich, May 24 2010 // 2:00 PM

We’ve been following director Vincenzo Natali’s latest film Splice for a little while now because, among other reasons, we’re big fans of sci-fi around here and his first film, Cube, was a pretty great low-budget first feature effort. And now, thanks to the power of the Internets (and the folks at Collider), we can bring you a new clip from the film as well as a poster.

In case you’re not familiar with Splice, it concerns “superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing DNA from different animals to create incredible hybrids.” These driven scientists use human DNA to create a hybrid that, at first, surpasses their wildest dreams.

But as this hybrid, called Dren, begins to grow, those dreams turn into nightmare as it begins to develop unexpected abilities and appetites. Well, that does sound scary and after looking at this latest clip, I’m even more interested in this film. The effects look pretty good for such a low budget and who doesn’t love science gone wrong allegories? I know I do.

We’ll bring you more on this film as it gets closer to the release date, including an exclusive interview with director Vincenzo Natali, so be sure and check back soon. Until then, check out the clip and poster after the jump. Splice hits theaters on June 4.

War Movie Mondays: ‘Von Ryan’s Express’

by Douglas Barnett, May 24 2010 // 1:00 PM

This week’s pick bring us back to my favorite of all the wars, World War II. The chairman of the board, Frank Sinatra leads an all star cast in Von Ryan’s Express (1965) which tells the story of a massive allied prisoner escape by train from Italy to the Swiss frontier. Col. Joseph Ryan (Sinatra) is a downed American flyer who is taken prisoner by the Italians in August, 1943 as the Italians face allied invasion and increased German occupational troops.

Ryan is taken to a P.O.W. (prisoner of war) camp where he is introduced to the camp’s commandant Major Battaglia (Adolfo Celi of Thunderball fame) who is a die hard “two bit Mussolini.” The camp is made up primarily of British prisoners led by Major Eric Fincham (Trevor Howard) who has taken over command of the prisoners after his Colonel dies from punishment due to their Italian captors. Ryan assumes command as the senior officer of the camp and believes that escape attempts be halted until they are liberated by the rapidly advancing allies who have moved through Sicily, and onto the Italian mainland.

Ryan is quickly dubbed “Von Ryan” by his fellow prisoners who despise his “knuckle under” attitude. Ryan tries to convince Battaglia and his sympathetic adjutant Captain Oriani (Sergio Fantoni) that there will be no further escape attempts and that he will control the actions of the prisoners in return, Ryan demands that Battaglia re-issue Red Cross parcels to the prisoners who are suffering from malnutrition and disease.

‘Smallville’ Dynamic Duo Taking On ‘Charlie’s Angeles’

by Joe Gillis, May 24 2010 // 12:00 PM

Even with a couple of big screen adaptations already out there it looks like the venerable Charlie’s Angels franchise is going to be rebooted yet again. Only this time, it will be back on the small screen where it all started and ABC has chosen the writing team to make it happen.

Former Smallville executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are taking over writing duties on Angels, which ABC is developing for a potential pilot order and midseason launch. The dynamic duo will replace Josh Friedman, who initially was hired to adapt the project but obviously isn’t working out.

Gough and Millar created and launched Smallville and then ran it for seven seasons before leaving the show in 2008. Even with the addition of these two, the rest of the Angels creative team remains the same, which includes the movie’s producers Drew Barrymore, Leonard Goldberg and Nancy Juvonen.

Not that we necessarily need another Charlie’s Angels (nor do we probably need a reboot of Hawaii Five-O or Rockford Files but it seems we may get one of those too), but it might be fun. Plus, these two guys are pretty talented and have shown they can develop a show, get it launched and carry it a long way. Let’s hope they can inject some of the same into their new project.
