Kenny Powers is back mofos and he’s ready for action. That’s right, Season Dos of Eastbound and Down is ready and this time around Kenny and company will be heading down to Mexico for what promises to be more foul mouthed fun.

The first season ended with Kenny leaving his girlfriend at a gas station as he goes off to Mexico to play baseball. The second season is sure to be filled with even more hijinks and crass stunts perpetrated by Kenny.

MTV Bringing More Scripted Shows To Light Next Season

by Matt Raub, Sep 15 2010 // 9:00 AM

Jersey Shore may be the highest rated show on the network, but that won’t stop MTV from cranking out a whole slew of upcoming original scripted programming for their next upcoming season. It’s important to state that these are scripted, because this is the first time MTV is trying something like this since the days of Undressed back in 1999.

This decision to bulk up scripted programming can most definitely be attributed to the huge success of last summer’s newest program for the network, The Hard Times of RJ Berger. The pilot of the show brought in 2.6 million viewers, which is a network high in nearly two years. Now, with two completely different pilots, MTV is hoping to capture that lightning in a bottle. From THR:

“That Girl” follows a 15-year-old who gains notoriety after an accident leads her classmates to think she attempted suicide. The show was created and executive produced by Lauren Iungerich (ABC Family’s “10 Things I Hate About You”).

If you love cool shows that feature a great sci-fi premise, compelling characters and terrific acting then Fringe just might be a show for you. Of course, we’re big fans of J.J. Abram’s answer to the X-Files around here and are waiting somewhat patiently for the new season to begin.

Check Out The First 10 Minutes of Emma Stone’s ‘Easy A’

by Matt Raub, Sep 15 2010 // 7:00 AM

High school comedies have gotten a pretty bad reputation as of late. If it weren’t for films like Mean Girls or the original series of Scary Movie films, the genre would be completely devoid of appeal of any kinda. Then we have a film like Easy A, which looks like it could just break that mold once again.

The film stars Emma Stone, who most fans fell in love with during her role in Zombieland, and other just consider the “poor man’s Lindsay Lohan”. Either way, she’s on the rise in Hollywood, and Easy A could just be her big picture to make that happen.

The film is a modern-day take on The Scarlet Letter, except it takes place in high school, and there’s no actual sex. The cast is what will turn heads the most, bringing names like Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Malcolm McDowell, Stanley Tucci, Lisa Kudrow, and Fred Armisen to a film that could just turn out to be “not every other high school movie.”

Don’t take our word for it. Myspace is bringing us the first 10 minutes of the film, which you can check out after the jump. Check it out, let us know what you think, and catch Easy A in theaters this Friday.

New Clip From ‘Insidious’

by Shannon Hood, Sep 14 2010 // 3:00 PM

The horror film Insidious will be making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) this week.

Here is the official synopsis:

Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) have a happy family with their three young children. When tragedy strikes their young son, Josh and Renai begin to experience things that science cannot explain.

Screenwriter Leigh Whannell penned several of the Saw films, and director James Wan directed two of the earlier Saw movies.

With a title like Insidious you expect this movie to be super creepy.  The clip delivers on that expectation.

Watch the clip entitled, “What is it?”  after the jump.

Fantastic Fest Announces IFC Midnight Partnership

by Shannon Hood, Sep 14 2010 // 2:00 PM

Austin’s Fantastic Fest gets underway next week, and officials have announced a partnership between Fantastic Fest and IFC Midnight, a new genre label for IFC Films.

Four IFC Midnight movies will play at Fantastic Fest, but you will be able to participate right from your living room, because they will be simulcast on IFC’s Video on Demand.  How cool is that?

Here are the films with a brief synopsis. All four are new acquisitions for IFC Midnight films.

High Lane, directed by Abel Ferry

Towering heights and beautiful vistas turn into a haunting mindtrip in Abel Ferry’s gripping French scarefest that will definitely make you think twice about your next mountain climbing trip.  In the film, a group of friends on vacation in Eastern Europe embark on an ambitious mountain expedition along a trail that they discover – way too late – is closed for repair.  The thrill of this foolish challenge quickly turns sour as it becomes clear that not only is the path a lot more dangerous than they thought, but also that they are not alone. Fear exposes old traumas and brings up hidden emotions to the surface, and soon, everyone is fighting tooth-and-nail for their survival.

Red, White and Blue, directed by Simon Rumley

Erica (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER’s Amanda Fuller) is a tough, troubled nymphomaniac with wounds across her soul.  For Erica, sleeping with multiple men forms the core of her life, until she meets the mysterious Iraq vet Nate (THE PROPOSITION’s Noah Taylor).  Despite his quiet air of danger, Nate’s the only guy who doesn’t immediately want to sleep with her, and the two form a hesitant bond. But in a shocking twist, one of Erica’s earlier sexual encounters, with wannabe rock star Franki (Mark Senter), will have unexpected – and devastating – consequences on both of their lives.

Incidentally we caught the film at SXSW, and called it, “visceral, raw and shocking.”  You can read the full review here.

Check Out Five New Previews for NBC’s ‘Chase’

by Joe Gillis, Sep 14 2010 // 1:00 PM

This time around we’ve got previews for another new NBC show called Chase. In this one from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer Kelli Giddish stars as U.S. Marshall Annie Frost who chases the bad guys and kicks ass all while wearing some great cowboy boots.

To get you excited for this new show we’ve got lots of previews and more videos to share with you today. Some of these include the full length trailer, interviews with Jerry Bruckheimer, stars Giddish and Cole Hauser, a look at some of the show’s action and a lot more.

Before you move on to the videos, here’s a bit more about the show’s story and characters from our friends at NBC:

Kelli Giddish stars as U.S. Marshal Annie Frost, a cowboy boot-wearing deputy whose sharp mind and unique Texas upbringing help her track down violent criminals on the run. Starring as the members of Frost’s elite team are Cole Hauser as Jimmy Godfrey, an East Texas kid who never grew up and is a true American cowboy; Amaury Nolasco who plays Marco Martinez, a good intelligence guy who loves to talk; and Rose Rollins, who portrays Daisy Ogbaa, a weapons/tactical specialist and a woman of few words.

Rounding out the cast is Jesse Metcalfe, who stars as Luke Watson, the fresh-faced newcomer whose Washington, D.C. upbringing did little to prepare him for the Lone Star State.

Chase premieres next Monday, September 20 at 10/9C on NBC. Check out all the previews after the jump.

‘Monsters’ Director Lands New Gig with Timur Bekmambetov

by Chris Ullrich, Sep 14 2010 // 12:00 PM

I’ve been a fan of both director Gareth Edwards and his debut film Monsters since seeing it and interviewing him at SXSW earlier this year. The film is terrific and Edwards is definitely a talented writer/director whose star is on the rise.

Obviously, others agree with my assessment as Edwards has recently made a deal for his next project. He will team with Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov on a science fiction film that Edwards is writing and will direct. Bekmambetov will produce the film along with Jim Lemley.

The project is described as “an epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity.” Edwards will finish the script and then he and Bekmambetov will reportedly take it out to studios for financing.

With Edwards able to make so much out of Monsters with so little money to work with it will be very interesting to see what he will be able to do with a larger budget. Teaming with Bekmambetov seems like a great idea and I, for one, can’t wait to see what this partnership yields.

Get Your First Look at Disney’s ‘Tron: Betrayal!’ Graphic Novel

by Joe Gillis, Sep 14 2010 // 11:00 AM

With Disney’s acquisition of Marvel it was likely we would see comics coming from the publisher that are traditional Disney titles or movie tie-ins. An example of this is the upcoming prequel graphic novel for Disney’s Tron: Legacy film called Tron: Betrayal!

Here’s all the scoop on this graphic novel from our friends at Marvel:

Tron: Betrayal! bridges the story between the first Tron film from 1982 and the the new film and tells the story of Kevin Flynn, who is now in charge of the world’s largest video game company, Encom. The break-through game developer has built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs except now the new virtual world is about to develop a life of its own and, in order to control it, Flynn’s going to need the help of an old friend: Tron.

Showcasing a key time of the mythology of the Tron world, TRON: Betrayal #1 will show the early days of the Grid, and the first appearances of the heroes and villains that will be seen in TRON: Legacy.

Sounds interesting. If it’s half as good as IDW’s prequel comic from J.J. Abrams recent Star Trek film, it might just be worth a read.

Check out the previews for this graphic novel after the jump. Tron: Betrayal! hits store shelves on October 6th.

Interview: Artist James Silvani Talks Drawing ‘Darkwing Duck’ & ‘The Muppets’

by John Carle, Sep 14 2010 // 10:00 AM

Originally a cartoon, Darkwing Duck ran from 1991 to 1995 and again from 1996 to 1997. A darker, cooler version of the Duck Tales universe, Darkwing gave Disney its very own super hero character who wasn’t a total boy scout like Gizmo Duck.

Recently, Boom launched the Darkwing Duck miniseries which was quickly indefinitely extended to an ongoing series. Take a peek below at our interview with James Silvani, the current artist on the book, as he discusses with us his work on the project, the character, and the tremendous fan support the title has received.

The Flickcast: Recently Boom has been having a lot of success with their licensed products, especially with the Disney series. How did you get approached about working on the Darkwing Duck series?

James Silvani: Actually, I started off doing The Muppets and was working on a few Muppet ideas and the editors had asked, “Hey do you mind throwing in a Darkwing Duck cover? It’s something of a pet project of ours”. Once we had the approval, we went ahead with it and it became a nice little fluke.

Jovovich Says Another ‘Resident Evil’ Sequel Already In The Works

by Sebastian Suchecki, Sep 14 2010 // 9:00 AM

With Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D topping the box office this weekend, it should come as no surprise that the next installment is already in the works. As the only major release of the weekend, Resident Evil topped the box office with $27.7M, which was enough reason to spawn a fifth sequel.

According to Milla Jovovich, the film’s star and wife of director Paul W.S. Anderson, this was the most successful film in the franchise.  In an interview with New York Magazine she said,”This new Resident Evil is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise.”

Unfortunately this statistic is true but not exactly accurate. With the additional charge for 3D viewings of the film, the film has made more in dollars and did take the number one spot at the box office, but it was the worst of the franchise in terms of attendance. From Box Office Mojo.

In terms of estimated attendance, Afterlife likely ranked last and slightly behind the first movie: Afterlife only seemed more popular due to general ticket price inflation and the movie’s premium for the 3D illusion. 2,062 venues showed the picture in regular 3D, while it ran in IMAX 3D at another 141 venues.

Go Behind The Scenes Of ‘Glee’ Season Two

by Matt Raub, Sep 14 2010 // 8:00 AM

This season of Glee is promising to be a good one. Between an entire episode dedicated to Britney Spears, and another episode dedicated to the music of Rocky Horror Picture Show, we’re looking at another nonstop season from series creator Ryan Murphy.

Glee blew up last year in both TV ratings and record sales earning a record 9.77 million viewers for Fox, picking up a few awards including a Golden Globe, and an astounding 19 Emmy nominations. Their music didn’t get left in the dust, as the show’s single releases gained over 7 million downloads for some of their songs.

Now, needless to say, fans are ready for a second season, as the show kicks into it’s second year with even more musical drama and comedy. Check out a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette for the new show after the jump, and be sure to catch the premiere Tuesday, September 21st, on Fox.
