CW Pushes Back ‘Smallville’ and ‘Supernatural’ Returns

by Chris Ullrich, Jan 28 2011

If you were one of the millions of fans anxiously awaiting the return of Smallville or Supernatural tonight, you’re just going to have to wait a bit longer. The network that carries those shows, The CW, has decided to push back both show’s premieres, which were to take place tonight, by another week.

Now, both shows will return next Friday at their regularly scheduled times. Why is this happening? Reportedly, it is to give the network’s winter debuts of The Vampire Diaries and Nikita extra time to build an audience and ratings by showing them again this week in the time slots usually reserved for Smallville and Supernatural.

While I can understand the decision from a business perspective, it is still a rather crappy thing to do to fans eagerly awaiting the return of Smallville and Supernatural. I know The CW wants to give its newer shows as much of a chance as possible, but they also need to keep in mind that shows like Smallville, and its fans, are one of the reason the network is still in business.

Oh well, I guess we can wait one more week, right?

They want The Vampire Diaries to get more time to build an audience… Really? They’re one of the most popular shows on television already.
Let the original shows return tonight! This isn’t fair. :/ Nikita and Vampire Diaries had their turn, it’s time for Supernatural and Smallville.

CW, we have been looking forward to this for a month and half. Who was the rocket scientist that made this decision less than 48 hours prior to the broadcast?

Vampire Diaries suck and Nikita is a poor remake of the original. Show some respect for the shows that made you so popular, Smallville and Supernatural.

CW, you’ve ticked a lot of your audience off with this decision. If they find an opp to watch the shows elsewhere, you can bet they will. It’s sneaky and underhanded…false advertising on your part, for one. Underhanded that you’re trying to trick people into watching something they didn’t plan to watch, for another. I’ll be reporting in my blog about this; you’ve ruined my family’s evening.

the people responsible for the decision need to be evaluated for the job they have been given. first off they didn’t advertise the change, which in my point of view puts the cw in an unreliable false intention in the idea of the network. Bad Move! They have pissed off one of the networks highest viewing audiences. Smallville and supernatural were their ratings. Wow what this is going to do for the shows they replaced them with in the long run. I bet these shows have created a negative vibe instead of a positve perspective in alot of eyes.

This is so stupid. Most of us have waited for weeks for this to air again. Does the people who run CW have any common sense. So basically screw over the viewers of smallville and supernatural to “try” to make a show popular and honestly I saw it yesterday and I can tell you I will not be watching it again. Its the same plot and stupidity of every other teen movie. CW needs to get their heads on straight or they will lose the viewers they have.

I am very unhappy that Supernatural was not on tonight. I have waited and waited for this show to come back. I had set up my DVR and was ready. Now I have to wait until next week. I think I am bothered mostly by the fact that no warning was given. Come on CW Supernatural is the best show on your channel. Now I know that i am not the only one who watches your channel. For everyone who’s favorite show is Smallville, you know what I mean. For those of you who enjoyed Nikita and The Vampire Diaries, please know that I am not trying to say that your show is not important to you, just understand that I was soooo looking forward to seeing Supernatural tonight. Hope you understand the rant. Thanks

For everyone as pissed as I was make sure you go over to the CW website and give them your feedback. It’s great to talk about it here and all, but CW folks aren’t going to read it. I agree with most, Supernatural is the only show on CW that I watch (used to watch smallville up until about the 3rd or 4th year). I can’t even stand all the lame commercials for the other shows while trying to enjoy Supernatural.

It’s Smallville’s last season CW show some respect!! Also, I’ve read on several sites that some people aren’t going to watch anymore new episodes and just wait for the disks because they are tired of the CW, unfortunately I don’t have the will to wait but just so the CW knows. THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL FOR A F***ING RERUN OF VAMPIRE DIARIES AND NIKITA. I am so disappointed that the CW would choose to do this! I think they have made a huge mistake. I am an avid Supernatural fan and have waited ever so patiently for it to come back on. I feel the CW has shown disrespect for both its fans and its top 2 shows. I don’t watch Nikita or Vampire Diaries and if I ever thought for a moment to give them a chance, I won’t now. If they can’t make it on their normal night, then ditch them. Supernatural and Smallville have a strong fan base and those fans expect their shows to be on when they are supposed to be. They have already been off the air for weeks and now we have to wait one more week. Are you sure you don’t have another show or two you might want to show instead next week? When I saw that Nikita was on instead of Suupernatural, I can assure you my t.v did not stay on the CW. Show some respect for your fans and the shows that made you what you are today. What a disappointment! Shame on you CW.

So when I got home, and was very excited to see my show, I was rather pissed to find Nikita in the Supernatural recording instead!! I dont watch anything else CW either, so waiting another week when it has been advertised to start back yesterday is frustrating. I have never been so mad at a TV network or program.

This decision was a disgraceful slap in the face to loyal SPN fans, who have played a big part in any success the CW has had. It is also an utterly stupid business decision, that betrays a serious lack of faith in its own shows, and a lack of respect for the fans of all the shows involved. CW didn’t believe TVD and Nikita fans would stick with their shows when up against Idol – but they were wrong because viewers were loyal and the ratings were fine. They also took serious and unforgiveable advantage of the loyalty and commitment of SPN and SV fans. Their actions smack of ‘oh those guys will still watch whenever we show the eps, so it is fine to mess them around and disappoint them’. All the buzz generated for the return of SPN may well be lost by next week, and our ratings may suffer. If so the network better not then use that as an excuse to not renew the show. Very poor CW!
