E3 2011: Photos – More Booths, Games, Babes and More!

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 9 2011 // 12:22 PM

With E3 coming to a close today it’s time to take a look at the rest of the photos we took over the last three days. Well, we can’t actually show you all of the photos due to several factors: we shot way too many and some of them contain embarrassing moments best left for a night of cocktails at Trader Vic’s.

However, we do have quite a few we can share so in this gallery we’ve included those. Yes, they contain more booths, some gameplay, cool cars and, of course, a selection of beautiful booth babes.

What E3 would be complete without them? A less beautiful experience to say the least.

Click through for all the pics. See you next year!

E3 2011: Fight Crime in ‘Batman: Arkham City’ with the Batarang Controller

by Joe Gillis, Jun 9 2011 // 12:00 PM

Yes, E3 has a lot of games to demonstrate and attract the attention of gaming enthusiasts. It also has a lot of hardware to dazzle the eye and entice your wallet open.

One such piece of hardware is the Batarang Controller from Power A for the XBox 360 and PS3. Yes, you read that right: It’s a controller made in the shape of the famed Batarang made famous by none other than Batman himself.

Here’s more info from the official release from Power A:

Developed by Rocksteady Studios and based on DC Comics’ core Batman property, Batman: Arkham City, batman fans will revel in the authenticity of the design of the Batarang, while gamers will appreciate the comfort and performance that POWER A brings to these one-of-a-kind controllers.

The Batarang controller for PS 3 is wireless with reverse analog sticks and a Batman-themed USB RF receiver. The Batarang controller for Xbox 360® is a wired controller with a 10-foot / 3m inline release cable.

WWDC 2011: Unity Tech Debut ‘Shadowgun’ Game Trailer for iPad

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 9 2011 // 11:00 AM

With all the talk about E3 let’s not forget Apple is having a little confrence of its own: WWDC. At that show, several things were announced by our favorite fruit flavored tech company.

Also announced, and in keeping with the gaming-related week we’re having, was a new title from Madfinger Games, creators of Samurai II: Vengeance. This new title, called SHADOWGUN, “showcases next-gen graphics and immersive gameplay authored in the Unity development platform.”

Interested? Cool because here’s more about the game from the official press release:

Authored with the Unity development platform, SHADOWGUN combines tactical combat with third person harrowing action, ushering in a new visual standard for handheld gaming. SHADOWGUN puts players into the role of John Slade, a professional bounty hunter in the year 2350. Slade’s mission: hunt down Dr. Edgar Simon, renowned geneticist and former employee of the trans-galactic corporation Toltech Enterprises.

Players must lead “shadowgun” John Slade as he infiltrates Dr. Simon’s mountain fortress and fights his personal army of mutants, cyborgs, and genetically-enhanced humanoids using state-of-the-art weaponry, ships, and the assistance of S.A.R.A. — Slade’s personal android assistant. The story is written by award winning author Micah Nathan who has joined the MadFinger team as executive creative consultant for SHADOWGUN.”

With how good this looks on the iPad I have a hard time beging excited about something like the PS Vita. Sorry Sony, too little too late.

Danny Glover Joining Kiefer Sutherland In Fox Pilot ‘Touch’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 9 2011 // 10:00 AM

As we told you previously, Kiefer Sutherland is returning to TV after a break to do some plays and will be starring in Fox’s new Tim Kring created drama Touch. Now we’re happy to report that Sutherland won’t be alone in the series.

According to reports, the former 24 star will be joined by Lethal Weapon‘s own Danny Glover in the new show. Glover will play Arthur DeWitt, a professor and expert on children who possess special gifts when it comes to numbers.

Obviously, from what we know about the show so far, he will probably work with Sutherland’s character and his son who can predict events before they happen. Sounds like a pretty killer crimefighting team.

I wonder if Sutherland’s character will end up shooting anyone in the leg? Maybe we’ll just have to wait for the 24 movie to see that. Until then look for Touch to debut midseason if Fox decides to pick it up after seeing the pilot.

With Sutherland’s track record for the network and Glover’s appeal to Roger Murtaugh fans everywhere, I would bet we’ll see this show get picked up. If only Tim Kring wasn’t involved. Oh well, that probably means the show will be good for the first season and then turn to crap.

Natalie Zea, Diora Baird, & Robert Englund Star in ‘The Sexy Dark Ages’

by Matt Raub, Jun 9 2011 // 9:00 AM

TV genres come in big waves, whether it’s the faux superhero story with shows like Heroes and Modern Family, or mysterious sci-fi series like LOST, V, Surface, and countless others. Lately, the name of the game seems to be raunchy cable historical dramas.

Between shows like The Borgois, The Tudors, Camelot, and Game of Thrones, there are plenty of ways to see sexy and/or violent times of the middle ages. So why wouldn’t someone want to capitalize on this genre and get straight to the point?

That’s where Alex Fernie’s newest Funny or Die skit, The Sexy Dark Ages, comes in. Starring Justified’s Natalie Zea, Diora Baird, and Robert Englund, we get a look at a “brand new” series for Showtime, in which the concept of the overly sexual and dramatic historical fiction gets mocked beyond belief.

Not as many laugh-out-loud moments as you’d get from most FoD videos, but this clip is certainly a hot pick for anyone who’s hooked on shows like Game of Thrones, which is pretty big right now.

Check out the video after the jump, and pray that nobody from Showtime watches the video and decides to option this idea.

Zach Galifiniakis Leaks A Potential Plot for ‘Hangover Part 3′

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jun 9 2011 // 8:00 AM

With The Hangover Part II making upwards of $350 million worldwide, Todd Phillips and his Wolfpack aren’t even going to have the time to spend any of that money, because there is already a plan for Warner Bros. to crank out yet another Hangover film.

Phillips has expressed interest in closing out the trilogy with a big film, but it looks like star Zach Galifiniakis may have spoiled the plot for the film in a recent interview with Rolling Stone:

“I’m terrible about people wanting to take pictures with me,” Galifianakis says. “I’m a giant baby about it. They treat you like a cartoon. There’s nothing you can do except make light of it. That’s if I’m in the mood. Sometimes I get superbummed.”

E3 2011: Check Out The First Trailer for ‘Super Mario 3D’ on 3DS

by Matt Raub, Jun 9 2011 // 7:00 AM

E3′s got lots of news this week that has us excited. It seems that the big news of the week goes to Nintendo, with the announcement of their WiiU interactive controller and console. Along with the WiiU, the company has also announced some pretty awesome games for their already existing consoles.

One that has piqued our interest pretty hard is Super Mario 3D, which looks to be the complete culmination of all Mario games into one action-packed handheld game. Here’s the rundown for the game.

Super Mario 3D combines the gameplay of 3D Mario titles, which includes some of Mario’s moves such as the running jump and ground pound, with some of the more traditional elements of 2D Mario titles. The game utilises a similar system to the 2D titles, in which Mario will lose outfits or shrink to Small Mario if he is hit, losing a life if he is hit whilst in Small Mario form or falls into a bottomless pit.

Confirmed items revealed so far are the Super Mushroom, which allows Small Mario to grow into Super Mario, the Fire Flower, which allows Mario to shoot fireballs, the Starman, which makes Mario temporarily invincible, and the Super Leaf (Mario tranforms into Tanooki Mario instead of Raccoon Mario), which allows Mario to do a tail whip attack and hover in the air.

Levels are completed by reaching a flag similar to that of Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros., with more points or an extra life earned the higher the player lands on it. Comet Medals also make a reappearance from Super Mario Galaxy 2, hinting that more difficult variations of the levels can be unlocked.

The game is set to hit stores later this year, but you can check out the first gameplay trailer after the jump to get excited.

E3 2011: First Trailer for Paramount’s ‘Star Trek’ Game Released

by Joe Gillis, Jun 8 2011 // 1:30 PM

Earlier in the week we brought you news that Paramount Digital Entertainment was going to preview a new Star Trek Game at E3. Now, we’ve got the trailer to prove it.

In case you missed the earlier announcement, the game “continue the adventure that J.J. Abrams J.J. Abrams envisioned with Star Trek” and “boasts a stand alone story filled with action-packed combat as Kirk and Spock must work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.”

“Star Trek challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay with a galactic adventure that gamers and fans have never experienced,” said Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment. “Working closely with the Star Trek filmmaking team throughout development, the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience.”

The game features an original story by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the new Star Trek films, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Click through to check out the trailer. Expect the new Star Trek game to arrive later this year. Let’s hope the sequel to the movie comes out before this does.

First Pic from ‘The Walking Dead’ Season Two Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2011 // 12:30 PM

With anticipation for season two of AMC’s The Walking Dead growing each day, it’s nice to know the show is now back in production and filming. To help get fans even more excited for the next season, AMC has just released a first-look photo from the upcoming season.

The show is currently filming in Atlanta and it seems, at least from the following quote, that Frank Darabont could not be happier about it:

“At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew.”

Thanks Mr. Darabont, we’re pretty happy you guys are back to work too. Now, please try not to mess the show up. Okay?

Click through to check out the pic. The Walking Dead returns to AMC with all-new episodes later this year.

E3 2011: ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3′ Hand On First Impressions

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2011 // 11:30 AM

At the E3 gaming convention in Los Angeles late yesterday I spent some time at the Activision booth to learn more about one of my most anticipated upcoming games: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. After being ushered into a small room in the bowels of the Activision booth, the lights dimmed and it began.

First, we were treated to a look at two of the game’s upcoming levels: “Hunter Killer” and “Mind the Gap.” The first took us underwater with the SEALS for some sabotage of a nuclear submarine and then inside the sub for some awesome mano y mano firefight action.

We also got a chance to take a look at what happens when the firefight inside the sub is over and the action moves outside and into a rubber speedboat. Once in the boat we speed through the mayem with missiles and ships exploding all around us. Do we make it to the chopper in time and escape? I’ll leave that to your imaginaton.

Next up was “Mind the Gap” where we join the SAS to infiltrate a stronghold and go house to house in search of the bad guys. The level progreses and we take out most of the hostiles but at the end they try to escape in London’s underground. Of course, we give chase — in two trucks.

Magnolia Acquires ‘Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2011 // 10:30 AM

When you run a website like The Flickcast, you are often lucky enough to see movies in advance of their release to the general public. Or, in the case of the horror comedy Tucker & Dale Versus Evil, way in advance.

I first saw this movie last year during Austin’s South By Southwest Film Festival and reviewed it for the site. Now, over a year later, the film has finally found distribution through Magnolia Pictures Magnet Releasing arm.

To save you the trouble of reading my review I will tell you that at the time I didn’t fall madly in love with the movie. However, it was fun and leads Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk and Katrina Bowden are likeable and very watchable.

The film has problems, of course, as to many movies these days. I don’t really blame it for its problems, though, as it aspires to do a lot and is mostly limited by its extremely modest budget. I definitely give director Eli Craig points for at least trying to do something.

So, I’m happy more people will get a chance to experience Tucker & Dale Vs Evil. Plus, if the film does well we may be able to see what director Craig does with a larger budget.

Expect Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil to hit VOD on August 26th and then theaters on September 30th. For more info, click through for the full press release.
