This week is all X-Men, but next week begins the time of Green Lantern as it’s the next major superhero film to hit this summer. The live-action film hits theaters on June 17th, but way before that, you’ll be getting the geek’s fan favorite choice as Hal Jordan, Nathan Fillion, lending his voice in the animated anthology Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

The film is a series of stories surrounding Jordan and a few other members of the Green Lantern Corps as they fight crime across the universe. There are some pretty impressive names attached the film alongside Fillion. Roddy Piper, Henry Rollins, Kelly Hu, Arnold Vosloo, and Elisabeth Moss all lend their voices to fight space crime.

In a recent interview, King of the Geeks Fillion discussed how much he’s always wanted to play the Emerald Hero, even since childhood.

As a child, when you’re pretending you’re different super heroes, Green Lantern was the easiest because all you needed to light the fire in the imagination was the ring.  Superman, you need a cape; Spiderman, you need a full face mask.  That wasn’t tough to come by in a winter town like where I’m from, but they’re just too hot to wear in the summer. So to be Green Lantern, all you needed to do is suck a lifesaver down to the right size, and to make sure it’s a lime one – slip it on your finger, and you were good.

Some of the best scripted TV isn’t found on free cable anymore, it’s found in shows like The Killing, Game of Thrones and dozens of other shows found in the high cable channels like AMC, HBO, FX, and Showtime. One of those epic dramas is AMC’s Breaking Bad.

Hitting their fourth season on July 17th, Breaking Bad is getting as hard-hitting and inexplicable as ever as we follow the downward spiral (or eye-opening rebirth) of Walter White. For those who still haven’t gotten the chance to catch the show, here’s a brief rundown to bring you up to speed.

Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years to live. With a new sense of fearlessness, and a desire to secure his family’s financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime, where he ascends to power. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis, such as White’s, releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to kingpin of the drug trade.

All things video games will be blowing up in the next week as Los Angeles is taken by storm with E3 news and announcements. We’ve got a few tidbits already before the show even happens, such as this little nugget about Catwoman being an official playable character in the upcoming Batman open-world game Batman Arkham City.

The game is written as a sequel to the massively popular third-person game Batman Arkham Asylum, in which you portrayed the Dark Knight (voiced by Kevin Conroy) as he took down some of the most well known names in his rogues gallery.

In this game, The Joker (voiced possibly for the last time by Mark Hamill) breaks free from captivity, again, to wreak havoc on the townspeople of Gotham City. The big news here is that the game will get a bit more female, as Catwoman has been announced as a playable character for several levels, instead of playing as Batman for the entire game.

Not only has this feature been announced, but there’s even a pretty hot video circulating around the web showing off the Cat of 9 Lives and how elastic and flexible she can be when taking down the thugs of Gotham.

Most films tend to peter off after the first trilogy. That rule, of course has been tried and broken a few times, most recently with the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class. For Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids franchise, we fear it won’t meet those standards with the upcoming fourth film.

The film’s got a pretty impressive cast, and will, of course, be in 3D, but from what we can tell the script looks like it was shoehorned into the current Spy Kids universe, and even drudges up the much older stars of the original films. Here’s the massive synopsis.

The film revolves around twins Rebecca and Cecil who cannot get along with their stepmother, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba), who married their father, Wilbur, a spy-hunting reporter. Unknown to the twins, Marissa is a retired spy for the OSS (Organization of Super Spies) which has since become the world’s top spy agency and former headquarters of the now-defunct Spy Kids division.

So when Earth is threatened by a villain who goes only by the name of “The Timekeeper” (Jeremy Piven), she is called back into action by the leader of the OSS. With the end of the world approaching, Rebecca and Cecil have no choice but to join the fight, help Marissa, and put their anger against her aside in order to save innocent people. They will also receive some help from former Spy Kids Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara) (who have since grown to teenagers) who will provide them with new gadgets.

And yes, the film will be in “4D”, which doesn’t actually mean anything. Take a look at the first trailer for the flick after the jump and catch Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World in theaters on August 19th.

While we are kinda sorry that ABC decided to cancel V (hey, it had potential) we are glad at least one of our favorite actresses from the show is moving on to something new. That’s right folks, you’ve loved her since she starred as Inara, the companion with a heart of gold, in Firefly and now you’ll be able to see Morena Baccarin next on Showtime’s upcoming new series Homeland.

The new thriller, from 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, centers on Marine Sergeant Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq, and Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a driven CIA officer who suspects he might be plotting an attack on America.

Baccarin will play Jessica Brody, Scott’s smart, strong wife. She replaces Laura Fraser, who played the role in the pilot. The series, which also co-stars Mandy Patinkin, is slated to debut in the fall.

Sounds like a cool show — as long as Mandy Patankin doesn’t sing in every episode. Plus, always liked Damian Lewis since he was in Band of Brothers and through his stint on the under appreciated series Life . Could be fun.

As the E3 Expo gets closer expect a slew of new announcements to start coming out of the gaming sector. One of the first is Activision’s announcement this week of Call of Duty Elite, a new social network-style experience that will allow Call of Duty players to interact with each another in an entirely different way.

The new social network will have three parts: connect, compete, and improve. “Connect” will allow users to compete against friends, join groups, find players with similar interests and enter tournaments. Activision will provide both web and mobile interfaces for managing your Call of Duty information from multiple devices.

“Compete” will allow players to enter events and competitions with other players that have similar abilities. Activision promises real world and in-game prizes for this as well. “Improve” will provide users with a strategy guide to help them improve their gaming skills by following their performance and managing ongoing statistics.

“The average Call of Duty player spends 58 minutes per day playing multiplayer,” Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, said. “That is more than the average Facebook user spends per day on Facebook. And yet, right now, there are very few tools to unite and super charge that social community. Whether it’s allowing you to connect with your friends, or people of a similar skill level, people who live in your city, people who share your favorite passions, join competitive clans or social groups, or upload, view and comment on the incredible mass of player-generated content, or watch and comment on exclusive created content, Call of Duty Elite will give people more ways to connect with fellow players than ever before.”

According to Activision, most features of this upcoming service will be free. A premium package (details pending on that) will also be available. The service will enter public beta with Call of Duty: Black Ops this summer and will launch on November 8th with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

It was bound to happen sooner or later as the comics industry needs to do something to shake things up. What is this something? Read on.

This week DC Comics announced it will release Justice League Issue 1 digitally on Aug. 31. This will kick-start an initiative in which the company will renumber its entire line of superhero comics from No. 1 and launch them day-and-date with their print counterparts. Yep, you read that right.

Justice League marks the first collaboration between DC Entertainment chief creative officer Geoff Johns and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee and will reportedly tell an origin story for the superhero team. DC Comics says it is the first major American comics publisher to release all of its superhero titles digitally the same day as the print version.

So what does that mean for you? Well, it means you will be able to either buy your comics the old fashioned way in print or, if you’re so inclined, download them to your iPad or other digital reader and enjoy them. This marks a significant change from the previous method where you usually had to wait quite some time for a digital version of a comic to be available. Now, you won’t.

It remains to be seen if this will prove a successful move by DC and if it is, if other comic publishers will follow. If they do, it would seem that at least one group is going to suffer the most if this shift continues: comic book store owners. We’ll be following this as it develops.

Since he found out Marvel was interested in bringing Luke Cage to the big or small screen, Old Spice spokesman Isiah Mustafa has been petitioning online for the part, as he thinks it’s one he’s born to play.

He’s shot some promotional stills, worked with Marvel, and done a few other things to attempt to prove himself, and now there’s a brand new viral teaser hitting the web showing Isiah in the tank top and chains as Power Man himself, Luke Cage. The Daily Blam brings us up to speed:

Several months ago, reps for Marvel Studios hinted that a Luke Cage film or television series was in the works. Since then, TV personality Isaiah Mustafa has been publicly pursing the role, going as far as to pose for unofficial promotional images. The actor also revealed that he has gone as far as to speak with the studio about the possibility of portraying the hero: “I’ve already had a meeting with Marvel. I talked to them and I told them that I was a gracious reader of their comics and that I wanted to be Luke Cage. So we’ll see where they take it.”

Now we’ve got a taste of what Mustafa is really made of when it comes to playing Luke Cage as a new teaser has hit the web. Is this a teaser for an unannounced Luke Cage film? a TV show? A webseries? Nobody knows just yet. All we know is that it looks pretty bad ass. Check it out after the jump.

There were plenty of predictions from analysts that Hangover Part 2 would do well over the 3 day weekend, but with film breaking over $200 million worldwide, you had better believe Warner Bros. is jumping on the train to get a third film up and running as quick as possible.

Worldwide box office success is a sure way to lock in a sequel to any film, but Phillips and his Wolf Pack were actually playing with the idea of making The Hangover a trilogy way before this sequel hit theaters. From THR.

Talk of a third move surfaced several weeks ago when Part II was tracking off the charts. Part II was famously put into development two months before the first movie came out when Warners hired Phillips and Scot Armstrong to write the script. The studio was high on the strong test scores and in an unusual move, especially on something not based on a comic book or brand, hired the writing of the sequel in April before the movie’s release in May.

Craig Mazin, who co-wrote the Bangkok-set sequel, is in early talks to come back to write the new script for whose story details are being kept secret.

You can assume that Cooper, Helms, Galifiniakis, and possibly Ken Jeong will be back for the third installment. The question then becomes: where do you go when you’ve already done Vegas and Bangkok? Our vote is for the Moon.
