More news out of Gamescom this week and, to be honest, this looks pretty darn cool. Capcom has unleashed a new trailer for Steel Battalion Heavy Armor, the first first-person shooter game for its Xbox 360 that will take full advantage of Kinect and a standard gaming controller.

Steel Battalion Heavy Armor was first announced during the Tokyo Game Show last year, but we haven’t heard much about it since then. Not even at E3. But now, we’ve got a great trailer for the ame to share with you today.

In the game you play a soldier in the year 2082 fighting with MechWarrior-style machines and weapons. Using the connect, players will reportedly be able to control scopes, weapons, other soldiers on the battlefield and “start up procedures.”

Silva Screen records has done a wonderful job in recent years of putting out “best of” releases of music by absolutely legendary composers. The latest addition to this library are two new releases showcasing a living legend and a modern master, James Horner and Hans Zimmer. The Horner collection is an update to Silva’s original release, adding in some of his more recent scores, Avatar and The Karate Kid, while the Zimmer collection is a second volume focusing mainly on his work in the 2000′s.

These collections are particularly intriguing to film score fans as all of the music is performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The tracks on these albums are new recordings that are arranged for the Orchestra, essentially creating “covers” of the classic musical pieces we have come to know and love.

Like pop or rock songs, covers can be a mixed bad. Sometimes a new perspective on a song can take it from good to amazing, while other times the magic can be lost in translation.

Thankfully, The City of Prague Philharmonic has a long history of successful re-recordings of classic music and these sets are more proof of their ability to recapture the soul of the music they play. While it isn’t all perfect, there are several tracks that they might have even improved with their new renditions.

We all know how tame and watered down vampires have become these days. Sure, we’ll get some cool moments in True Blood when fangs are popped and blood is drawn, but that’s only in between the other 50 minutes of romance, sex and melodrama. And let’s not even begin to think Twilight has any kind of vampire bad ass moments.

The one constant is that the Underworld series has always looked good, and had enough guns and leather to come across as a Matrix spinoff. So why wouldn’t we get another sequel amidst the vampire/werewolf hype happening today? Good news, we do.

The premise is a bit tame, but we don’t expect much of a story when the first thing we see in the trailer is a nude Kate Beckinsale.

Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Of course, you’ll get the expected lines like “something else escaped” and “it’s more powerful than anything we’ve ever fought”. Why? Because why not. Leather + machine guns + Vampires = a good time.

For 20 year now (don’t mind the lack of math smarts in the interview), Kevin Conroy has been the go-to guy for the voice of Batman. From the original Animated Series back in 1991 to Justice League and Justice League Unlimited to the series of DC Animated films and finally 2008′s Batman: Arkham Asylum, Conroy has been the choice.

With that game, fans of the character were able to finally live out their fantasy and play as Batman in the most exciting and realistic Batman game every put together. Not enough? Well the folks at Rocksteady Games are doing it even bigger with this year’s release of Batman: Arkham City.

We managed to catch up to the man himself and talk about his latest work as the Dark Knight, what we can expect to see in the game, and just who he may be taking down in this highly anticipated sequel.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse when 75% of the films hitting theaters this year are in 3D or RealD, Robert Rodriguez introduces 4D with his new feature, the Aroma-Scope.

Sure, it’s not the newest idea. From the major plot points in Joe Dante’s Matinee from 1993 to John Waters’ “Odorama” in the film Polyester, the idea has been played with in the past, but never to the level of a summer blockbuster. Deadline explains.

[Rodriguez] used the marketing strategy of billing his fourth installment in the Spy Kids franchise as a “4D” flick by adding scratch-and-sniff scent cards for audiences. It’ll be interesting to see if this add-on “Aroma-Scope” value increases moviegoing beyond just the 3D higher ticket prices when the pic opens Friday. ”When it came time to do Spy Kids 4, I couldn’t just go back and do 3D like everybody else is now. I had to bring something extra,” Rodriguez told the the AP.

Since we first started getting casting news about Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot/sequel to the Superman franchise titled Man of Steel, questions have been flying in from every direction about what the possible story could be.

With names like Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Keaton, and Russell Crowe tying up the cast, we could only imagine how these A-listers would make their way into the film. The official synopsis has made its way onto the web, so maybe this will clear things up:

Some days it just doesn’t pay to get outta bed. First, the news broke this morning that Ridley Scott is jumping aboard the sequel/reboot train once again with a new Blade Runner movie which, let’s face it, is basically a terrible idea and completely unnecessary.

Now word comes that his brother Tony is prepping a reboot of Sam Peckinpah’s western classic The Wild Bunch. WTF? Sorry Tony, but that’s about as stupid an idea as rebooting or making a sequel to Blade Runner. Oh, wait. . .

Instead of mining classic films looking for good ideas you obviously can’t come up with yourself, how about finding some smart writers to come up with some ideas for you? I’m sure you can find one or two talented writers in all of Hollywood.

If you’re having trouble, I’ll get some friends of mine to send you over some scripts. Really, it’s no trouble. In the meantime, stick to making ridiculous movies about trains that won’t stop or trains that get taken over by terrorists or, well, you get the idea.

Please, leave the actual thinking to others. It’s painfully obvious you’re not capable of doing any yourself.

Oh, on another note, nobody plays baseball in the rain. It’s just stupid.

Earlier this week we brought you a teaser trailer for the upcoming game Prototype 2. This was in anticipation of the full trailer being released during the Gamescom event in Germany.

In july we brought you the news that the first wave of programming for Austin’s amazing Fantastic Fest had been announced. Now, we’re delighted to tell you the schedule for the second wave of programming has been released as well.

Most of the second wave films are new to most people but they probably won’t be once the fest is underway. That’s just what happens.

Here’s the list of the new films announced. Expect more announcements, and lots of coverage, in the weeks ahead. Fantastic fest runs from September 22-29 in Austin, TX.

If you’ve been the star of one of the most successful film franchises of all time and now that’s over, you might want to consider trying to go in a different direction with your career. If you’re Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, that’s kinda what you’ve done with your upcoming film The Woman In Black.

In the film Radcliffe plays a lawyer who travels to a remote English village and discovers that the ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. The horror thriller is a remake of a 1989 TV movie which was adapted from a play which, itself, was adapted from a novel by Susan Hill. You follow all that? Good.

We’v got a new trailer for the film to share with you today. In it, Radcliffe does his best to overcome the notion that he should just pull out his wand and blast the ghost with his magical powers. Does he succeed? You be the judge.

What is it with Ridley Scott? He doesn’t seem to be able to leave well enough alone. First he decides that what the world needs is an Alien prequel/sequel/spin-off with his upcoming Prometheus, in 3D no less.

Now he’s apparently come to the conclusion that what the world needs is a sequel/prequel to to his classic 1982 sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. Yes, you read that right. Mr. Scott will reportedly be directing a new installment of Blade Runner.

As it was when news of Prometheus first broke, it’s not clear if this new film will be a sequel or a prequel to the 1982 film that was loosely based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (answer: they do) Also not clear at the moment is if the new film will, in any way, feature Harrison Ford. My guess is it probably will, if only in a cameo.

Truth be told I find the idea of a Blade Runner sequel/prequel far less appetizing than a sequel/prequel to Alien. After all, James Cameron did a pretty great job with Aliens, which showed the franchise had some life in it. Plus, they ended up making a few more sequels which were less appealing. Still, they made them.

Blade Runner, on the other hand, has stood the test of time on its own. It’s evolved from a rather unsuccessful commercial debut into one of the most revered sci-fi classics of all time. Plus, it has never had a sequel, which also serves to add to its power and mystique.

The music from the Lord of the Rings films might very well be the best ever written for a film. Howard Shore often considered the entire project as his opera, structured in a sweeping and broad style that worked hand in hand with the epic story. So it is a natural that 10 years later the music is still exciting fans around the globe.

The music has been revisited again, this time being constructed as a symphony in six movements. The full twelve hours of music from the original films has been pared down into the six movements, each reflecting one of the six books of the original Lord of the Rings novel.

“Maestro Ludwig Wicki personally selected the musicians who comprise The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and who perform on this recording,” said Shore. “Over the past four years he has perfected this music in Lucerne, Switzerland. His precision and supreme musicianship is evident throughout the recording. I congratulate him on his success and thank him for his masterful approach in bringing this score to life.”
