New Line of Marvel Girls Pajamas May Become Men’s #1 Gift Idea

by Matt Raub, Aug 18 2011 // 8:00 AM

There’s nothing better than a legitimate geek girl who loves nothing more than reading comics in bed, but us guys know that those are a pretty rare breed. So what’s the best of both worlds? Marvel’s got your back with a brand new line of women’s pajamas that are sure to be a hit for any geek, male or female.

This line includes the classic “faux costume” look drawn on some pretty skimpy pajamas so that you can dress your girl (or dress yourself) as such characters as Ghost Rider, Emma Frost, Spider-Girl, She Hulk, and Captain America.

So with the holiday season approaches in the coming months, you may want to dog ear the page over at Spencer’s so that you can pick them up for yourself or your very lucky lady friend so that you can finally finish off all those roleplaying scenarios of “the demise of She Hulk”?

Body paint not included. Check out the full-sized images after the jump.

First Trailer for Nicolas Cage & Nicole Kidman’s ‘Trespass’ Hits the Web

by Sebastian Suchecki, Aug 18 2011 // 7:00 AM

Just when you thought every possible Hollywood on-screen couple has been put together, another that totally takes us for a loop comes along. Hitting theaters in October, you can see Trespass starring both Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage. What?

That’s right, Ghost Rider and Satine from Moulin Rouge are joining forces to bring you Trespass, a Joel Shumacher film. We couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried. Here’s the film’s synopsis.

In a private, wealthy community, priority is placed on security and no exception is made for the Miller family’s estate.  Behind their pristine walls and manicured gardens, Kyle (Nicolas Cage), a fast-talking businessman, has entrusted the mansion’s renovation to his stunning wife, Sarah (Nicole Kidman).

But between making those big decisions and keeping tabs on their defiant teenage daughter (Liana Liberato), Sarah often finds herself distracted by a young, handsome worker (Cam Gigandet) at their home. Nothing is what it seems, and it will take a group of cold-blooded criminals led by Elias (Ben Mendelsohn), who have been planning a vicious home invasion for months, to bring the Miller family together. When they storm the manor, everyone is tangled up in betrayal, deception, temptation and scheming. Kyle, Sarah and Avery will take the ultimate risk to make it out with their lives – and their family – intact.

Think of it as Dog Days of Summer meets The Strangers with the simple twist of being a Schumacher film. Check out the trailer after the jump and catch the film in theaters and VOD on October 14th.

by The Flickcast, Aug 17 2011 // 12:00 PM

Welcome to this latest edition of Web Video Roundup where we highlight the best in online video made by pros and fans alike. This week we’ve got Captain America, Conan, a Supercut Superdump and stunt driver Ken Block doing his thing on the Universal back lot. If you haven’t seen what this guy can do with a car, you’re really missing out.

Let’s get to the vids!

• Everybody loves Jersey Shore (for some reason) so it’s time that real stars like John Lithgow and Jesse Eisenberg get in on that sweet reality money.

• Who doesn’t love some early set footage of The Avengers in which Captain America kicks some ass? We certainly do!

• Matthew Rhys puts his collective minds together to figure out how to get laid in this killer Herman’s Head-inspired short.

• Doctor Who fans will appreciate this one: the Don’t Blink Cat Strikes!

• If we see no other trailer for the upcoming Conan The Barbarian remake, this fan trailer alone will make us race to the theater with anticipation.

• There’s nothing worse than Face Blindness (whatever that is). That’s exactly what Milla Jovovich is cursed with in the new trailer for Faces in the Crowd.

Go Behind The Scenes with Val Kilmer & Laura Vandervoort on ‘Spider-Man: Edge of Time’

by John Carle, Aug 17 2011 // 11:00 AM

Sixteen years ago, Joel Schumacher took the man who had stolen the show in Heat and Top Gun and transformed him into Batman. Val Kilmer was at what should have been the pinnacle of the super hero movie world. Instead he is remembered for being in one of the most poorly received super hero films that strayed so far from the original vision of the character that many will still shed a tear of sorrow for Batman Forever.

Now, Val has turned to the dark side as he becomes Walker Sloan, an evil scientist of Alchemax. In Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Sloan will become the bane of existence for both the modern day Amazing Spider-Man as well as Spider-Man 2099 from his own time. Take a peek below at Kilmer’s behind the scenes interview as he explains the motivation behind Sload and how he becomes a man who might unmake the world in his own image.

In addition to Val Kilmer, Beenox has released a behind the scenes video with Laura Vandervoort talking about her role as Mary Jane. Vandervoort herself is no stranger to the super hero or sci-fi world after her role as Kara / Brainiac / Linda Danvers on Smallville or Lisa on V. A number of actresses have tackled the Mary Jane role including Kirsten Dunst in the most recent film trilogy and singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb in MTV’s animated version.

Take a look below at Vandervoort’s thoughts on the character as she talks about her respect for Mary Jane. Also get a quick peek at how the story itself not only crosses through time between Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 but the characters themselves even cross eras.

Make sure to stick right here for more on Spider-Man: Edge of Time coming out October 4th for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

‘Senna’ Has Year’s Best Documentary Opening

by Chris Ullrich, Aug 17 2011 // 10:00 AM

If you don’t live in Los Angeles or New York or you do and just haven’t had a chance to go out and see director Asif Kapadia’s Senna, one of the best documentaries of the year about one of the greatest race car drivers of all time, don’t worry. You’re going to get your chance.

How do we know? Well, the doc is doing so well at the LA and NYC box office, averaging over $35K per screen, that the film’s distributor, Producers Distribution Agency, are planning to take it into 11 new markets and put it on 15 more screens this weekend.

“Obviously, we’re thrilled with the opening,” said John Sloss, co-founder of the Producers Distribution Agency in the article. “What it proves, both numerically and anecdotally, is that the film plays well beyond the core. We knew from our advance screenings, to our surprise, that the film played better to women that even gearheads, and they showed up. This movie is much more playable than it is marketable, so we couldn’t be happier with this word-of-mouth base.”

In case you’re not familiar with the film (even though you should be) it “follows the story of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest race-car driver who ever lived. In the mid ‘80s, Senna burst onto the world of Formula One racing. As a Brazilian in a predominantly European sport, he had to fight hard both on (against his nemesis, French World Champion Alain Prost) and off (against the politics that infest the sport) the track.”

That description doesn’t really do the film justice. If you like compelling stories, great characters and fast cars, this doc is for you. Be sure to check it out.

Bradley Cooper Pulls Out of ‘The Crow’ Reboot, Studio Scrambles to Find Replacement

by Joe Gillis, Aug 17 2011 // 9:00 AM

Things seemed to be going well for the upcoming reboot of the penultimate 1990′s goth film The Crow. The studio managed to lock down hot screenwriter Alex Tse (Watchmen) to pen the script, and 28 Weeks Later’s Juan Carlos Fresnadillo signed on to direct. Shortly after that, the production was able to lock in Hangover star Bradley Cooper as the gloomy hero of the film. Sadly, it looks like “lock” was not meant to be taken seriously.

It seems that Cooper is backing out of the production due to scheduling conflicts. Sadly, that means Relativity Media needs to go back to the drawing board to find a new rock and roll zombie for this upcoming reboot. THR has the report.

Bradley Cooper was to have played the title character but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that he has now exited due to scheduling conflicts. Cooper has David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook shooting this fall and then dives straight into Legendary’sParadise Lost, which shoots first quarter next year…the exact time Relativity plans on making the high-priority Crow.

But akin to the project’s rock musician who is killed and resurrected, two new names have surfaced as possible replacements: Channing Tatum and Mark Wahlberg.

Check Out Mr. Freeze In A New Trailer for ‘Batman: Arkham City’

by Matt Raub, Aug 17 2011 // 8:00 AM

Though he may have been considered a joke when a certain former Cailifornaian Governor portrayed him back in the 90s, Mr. Freeze is a pretty bad ass member of Batman’s rogues gallery.

With a touching backstory and awesome gimmick, you could understand why the fine folks at Rocksteady and WB Games would want “the ice man” to be a villain in the upcoming sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum.

From what we can tell, Freeze joins in the fight against Bats with fellow Arkham convicts The Riddler, Hugo Strange, and our old pal The Joker returning for more action.

We’ve got a brand new trailer in which Bats (played by the one and only Kevin Conroy) and Mr. Freeze have some pretty intense words, and even throw a few punches.

Check out the trailer after the jump and be sure to get on the Arkham City bandwagon as the game hits theaters October 21st.

First Trailer of Maggie Gyllenhaal in ‘Hysteria’ May Just Tickle Your Fancy

by Sebastian Suchecki, Aug 17 2011 // 7:00 AM

Maggie Gyllenhaal certainly loves her sex comedies. Before taking over for Katie Holmes in The Dark Knight, Gyllenhaal was best known for smaller films like The Secretary or 40 Days and 40 Nights in which she was normally the object of sexual affection.

It looks like she’ll be returning to that role in the upcoming period-based sex comedy, Hysteria. The film’s premise isn’t one that we could articulate to you without giggling through the sentence, so we’ll let Vulture do it justice.

Gyllenhaal stars alongside Hugh Dancy and Rupert Everett, who play inventors struggling to come up with the perfect vibrator to use on their female patients, all of whom have been deemed “hysterical”.

From Dark Knight to a film about the invention of the vibrator. Why not? It certainly can’t be any more exposing than the 2004 TV movie titled Strip Search she did, in which she was abused by the ghost-seeing Miles from LOST.

Hysteria hits the Toronto International Film Festival this year, so you can expect to see it hit theaters shortly thereafter.

Adult Swim Gives ‘Children’s Hospital’ a Fourth Season

by Joe Gillis, Aug 16 2011 // 4:00 PM

Good news everyone. Well, good news for those of you who are fans of Children’s Hospital. Good, I see some hands there.

As you can probably discern from the title of this post, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has decided to renew Rob Corddry’s comedy series Childrens Hospital for a fourth season. Thr show will get a 14-episode order for that new season.

This is good news, at least to us, as we’re big fans of the show. It’s been steadily funny this entire season so far and, according to reports, is doing well in the ratings.

I guess that’s one of the reasons Cartoon Network decided to bring it back for another season. Smart of them, I say. Production will begin later this year for a 2012 premiere.

In addition to Corddry, the series co-stars Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally and Henry Winkler. It airs Thursday nights at midnight on Cartoon Network.

Check Out This Interview with ‘Senna’ Doc Director Asif Kapadia

by Chris Ullrich, Aug 16 2011 // 10:30 AM

If there’s one thing we love as much as movies, TV, comics, games and pop culture here at The Flickcast, it’s cars. Cars are fun and they go really fast. We like fast.

Speaking of fast, there’s a new documentary out now called Senna which tells the story of a man who liked to go fast and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Formular One drivers that ever lived. That man: Ayrton Senna.

Director Asif Kapadia has put together a great documentary about the man and his legend and the guys at one of our favorite car websites, The Smoking Tire, managed to snag an exclusive interview with Kapadia, which we are glad to bring you right now.

Check out the interview after the jump. Senna is in theaters on LA and New York now with a wider release to follow. If you like cars and great stories, this is one you don’t want to miss.
