‘The Show Must Go On’ A Freddie Mercury Tribute Show Happening In LA

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Nov 4 2011

Freddie Mercury is a musical genius. If you ever doubt that fact go watch Highlander and enjoy a fantastic film that is made nigh classic by its soundtrack from Mercury’s band Queen. His loss ranks amongst the most tragic music industry passings, and he remains an icon to this day.

Bear McCreary, composer of such classic TV shows as Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead, has teamed up with his brother Brendon and Metalacolypse creator Brendon Small to honor the late rock icon. In a tribute show benefiting the AIDS Project LA the three musicians will take the stage together and put on a show.

There are often really cool things to do when you live in Los Angeles, but I have to say this event might out do them all. I implore anyone and everyone who lives in the LA area to check this out. Not only are you assured of getting a great show, but you also are contributing to a worthy cause. My fingers are crossed that they rock out to an epic version of Princes of the Universe.

Full details on the event after the jump.

“A unique group of musicians–and Queen fans–will come together to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s passing with The Show Must Go On — a live performance of the music of Queen — on November 9th at The Roxy Theatre.  All proceeds from the concert and memorabilia auction will be donated to AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), to help combat the disease that took Freddie from this world.

In November 1991, the world mourned music legend Freddie Mercury, who died of complications resulting from AIDS.  As lead singer, songwriter and the heart of Queen, Freddie’s legacy continues to inspire generations of fans.

Brendon Small (Dethklok/Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse), Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry), and Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead/Battlestar Galactica) have put together an all-star line-up, with surprise guests, to honor Freddie’s legacy.

“Queen is my favorite band on earth,” said Brendon Small.  “If I hadn’t heard the Flash Gordon theme at the age of 7, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be in show business. I’m excited to play some of my favorite songs and share the stage with some of the best musicians in the industry!”

“Queen was a rock band with truly orchestral sensibilities,” added Bear McCreary.  “Their melodies, harmonies and passion for lyrical storytelling place their songs amongst the most essential ever written.”

Brendan McCreary agrees, “Freddie was less a man, and more like a fallen angel. And the art Queen created, was less like music, and more like a good friend who’s stuck with you through all the years.”

“The Show Must Go On” band:
Lead Vocals: Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry)

not fair!!! I want to be there…    I went to Montreux in Sept. to share his birthday with his fans from all over the world.   Freddie will never be forgotten.  This is a wonderful way to honor him and raise money to fight AIDS.  Long live Queen.
