Last year on April Fool’s Day, Mimobot jokingly announced a Jar Jar Binks styled thumb drive in their line of Star Wars related storage accessories. Luckily, this was only a joke as it was revealed that they would not be taking it to the manufacturer. Everyone had a good laugh with sighs of relief.
But apparently there was some negative backlash over Jar Jar’s false Mimobot. And it wasn’t PTSD for those who contemplated bombing the Mimobot factory. It was from people who were actually disappointed that it wasn’t really happening.
It seems 500 people (which is our best guess since the Jar Jar Mimobot will only have 500 produced) made enough of a fuss to get Mimobot to create a thumb drive of the Gungan nightmare. After all, why would they risk making more Jar Jar Binks Mimobots than they believed they could realistically sell?
We don’t need a landfill in the middle of Arizona next to all those ET Atari catridges. Whether it was actual fans or a bunch of very mean people playing a joke back on Mimobot, there will be a Jar Jar Binks Mimobot drive coming out.
“Listen, Jar Jar Binks was a fool. But he was an extremely self-assured fool, and there’s something to be said for that,” explains Jessica Smiley, Director of Social Media at Mimoco. “When mimocult members tried to buy our BinksBOT last year, we said ‘ Gotcha!’ but knew we had to make it right this time around.”
Jar Jar will come in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB varieties and can be purchased from Mimobot’s website if you have some sort of masochistic computer fetish or someone you just really dislike.
Oh, and it plays Jar Jar noises when you use it…
