Web Video Roundup: Doc Brown Pimping Argentinian Electronics, Streisand’s ‘Temple of Doom’ Cameo, & The Official ‘Human Centipede 2′ Teaser

by Matt Raub, Sep 8 2011 // 11:00 AM

• People may be agains the upcoming reboot/prequel to The Thing, but this brief clip may just restore faith in the film for those.

• For those who didn’t know, there was an old rumor that Barbara Streisand surprised the cast of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in a classic blooper. That footage is finally seeing the light of day

• Those who love the new Doctor Who will love this a capella song done to the show’s theme. This time with lyrics!

• It’s a sign of hard economic times when even Doc Brown has to stoop low and act in a commercial for an Argentinian electronics store. Hey, we’re just happy to see him back doing what he loves.

• We brought you a footage-free trailer for Human Centipede 2, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the intense imagery that the first teaser brings us.

• The new Rise of Nightmares game looks so good that the video game comedy troop Mega64 is schilling it in this awesome web short. Our verdict? Sold.

• Who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned loop cover? We do, so check out this loop cover of the Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.”

• Justin Timberlake hasn’t been around the music scene for a while, as he’s been busy boning Mila Kunis and sabotaging Facebook. These mega fans want to see him bring sexy back….again.

Let’s get started!

• Want to learn how to have the body of Spider-Man and the creepiness of a grown man in tights hanging out with kids? This instructional workout video hosted by Spider-Man himself should help!

• Homemade puppets aren’t usually a collection that one brags about, but this homemade Wheatley puppet from Portal 2 is definitely one to show all of your friends as they drool with envy.

• The very first episode of Adult Swim’s Black Dynamite animated series has made it online before it hits TV. Bring on the animated exploitation!

• The folks at Sesame Street feel like enough is enough and have decided to come forward with an official statement about whether Bert & Ernie are actually gay or not.

Ben Stiller Giving Fans What They Want With ‘The Fake Trailer Project’

by Matt Raub, Aug 10 2011 // 8:00 AM

While Tropic Thunder may have been one of the best satires of the Hollywood system and funniest comedies of the past few years, one thing that every person who saw the film couldn’t help but love was the collection of fake movie trailers preempting the film.

Ben Stiller, director of Thunder and the brains behind most of the trailers as well as the classic Heat Vision & Jack pilot, has decided that there’s more than enough interest from fans to support doing more parody trailers that will stand on their own. Here’s the full deal from Deadline.

The new project, essentially a series of at least 12 short trailer parodies, will be distributed online via a partner to be named shortly. The plan is to bring together top actors and filmmakers across all genres to take part. I’m now told that they’ll come one per week, starting in the late fall or winter.

Stiller will produce with Stuart Cornfeld and Mike Rosenstein through Red Hour Digital, with longtime Red Hour collaborator Robert Cohen exec producing and directing some of the shorts. Among the actors and directors who’ll contribute content are Stiller’s Tropic Thunder co-writer Justin Theroux, Night at the Museum scribes Tom Lennon & Ben Garant, and Clueless helmer Amy Heckerling.

Expect to see more directors show interest in this project, as Robert Rodriguez and his band of genre and horror friends have been attempting the same thing after Grindhouse was such a cult success.

The Third ‘Hobbit’ Production Diary Hits

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jul 21 2011 // 9:00 AM

Peter Jackson has never been too shy to allow cameras to document the behind the scenes machinations of the Lord of the Rings franchise. The original trilogy had hundreds of hours of special features dedicated to the creation of the popular film franchise.

Now with The Hobbit in full swing the tradition continues. Jackson has just released his third production diary, this time focusing on the recently revealed dwarves. The diary itself is structured around cast and crews favorite memories of the first block of shooting, but thigs quickly develop into a dwarf love fest. It is clear that diminutive stars of the film are quickly becoming the life of the sets.

Besides the dwarves, the diary also showcases a few quick tidbits that will make any ringer giddy. We see more of the “Riddles in the Dark” scene, including some decent angles of Martin Freeman in full costume and Gollum in his mo cap suit. Elrond, Gandalf and Galadrial show up to tease a certain council meeting and there’s a father son reunion of Gimili and Gloin.

Finally the diary ends on a wonderful surprise that I refuse to ruin for you, but suffice to say it is a comforting sight to see.

Check out all three of the first diaries after the jump. The Hobbit arrives in theaters in 2012.

Web Video Roundup: X-Men’s Born This Way, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Fight Scene, & Toyota’s Future Window

by Matt Raub, Jul 20 2011 // 4:00 PM

Looks like Old Spice is still producing weird commercials, but now they’ve  got a brand new spokesman in Fabio. Improvement?

While the Dark Knight Rises teaser was pretty awesome, it’s nowhere near as awesome as the trailer mashed up with Batman: The Animated Series.

Lady GaGa’s Born This Way has got an X-Men makeover, and now there’s even a killer video to go along with it.

Beastie Boys get an amazing new music video for the classic hit Sure Shot, but this time with the Muppets from Sesame Street.

It’s A Hilariously Retro Nightmare in The ‘Alien Beach Crashers!’ Web Short

by Matt Raub, Jul 18 2011 // 9:00 AM

From the folks that brought you G33K & G4M3R Girls and superHarmony, and the guy you love to call Chuck, comes a brand new web spoof that takes place in the distant future of 1964!

That’s right, things are going back to the beach in this brand new short from Team Unicorn, The Guild director Sean Becker, and Robot Chicken writer Zeb Wells. It’s called Alien Beach Crashers! and that’s exactly what you’re going to get. As if you needed a synopsis, here it is.

Team Unicorn is back and putting a new spin on the classic beach party song and dance movies of the 60’s with their comedic homage “Alien Beach Crashers!”, a story about pesky intergalactic invaders ruining the most awesome beach party ever.

Starring a pretty “far out” cast including Zachary Levi (Chuck), Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), Abraham Benrubi (ER, Robot Chicken) and of course, Team Unicorn, made up of Clare Grant, Michele Boyd, Milynn Sarley, & Rileah Vanderbilt.

Take a look at the hilarious short after the jump, and be sure to subscribe to Team Unicorn’s channel, as they’re sure to post some great new shorts in the coming weeks!

Web Video Roundup: Every Harry Potter Movie in 7 Minutes, Juan of the Dead, & Carmageddon: The Movie

by The Flickcast, Jul 14 2011 // 8:00 AM

With Con season in full swing Big Bang Theory star Kelly Cuoco helps girls who have that embarrassing moment of realizing they’re the 1,000th Slave Leia at the party.

While it may not make any sense to people outside of the greater Los Angeles area, this trailer explaining the doom that will set in during Carmageddon this weekend is pretty spot-on.

Mob Wives is a pretty ridiculous show concept, but this Funny or Die spoof spells it out in 3 minutes better than we ever could.

Patton Oswalt has managed to find time in his schedule to star in a series of 5 second films. His newest one is both priceless and thought provoking.

Getting ready for the final Harry Potter film this Friday? Then you’re going to want to catch up with Every Harry Potter Film in 7 Minutes.

Pixar guru John Lasseter is a busy guy. How busy? Here’s a short film on exactly what it takes to be the man himself.

Some great new trailers out this week, including Cuba’s first horror film ever, titled Juan of the Dead, and it looks as good as the title is clever.

Who doesn’t love a good lightsaber battle? The only thing that could make it better is if the sound effects were completely done a capella.

George C. Scott Watches Adam Sandler’s ‘Jack and Jill’ Trailer

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 13 2011 // 11:00 AM

It’s a great world we live in when talented people like YouTube’s Pbonanno can take two videos and combine them together to create something funny. In this case the two videos in question are footage from the 1979 George C. Scott film Hardcore, about a man searching for his daughter in the seedy underbelly of society, and the upcoming Adam Sandler “comedy” Jack and Jill where he plays himself and his wacky sister.

Adam Sandler playing both roles? I know, funny right? Um, no. Not. At. All.

To be honest, I pretty much felt the same way as Mr. C. Scott when watching the Sandler trailer. To see what I mean, take a look at the video after the break.

In it, you’ll see the exact reaction to the trailer I’m talking about. I would bet you’ll feel pretty much the same way after seeing it too.

As far as the movie goes, it’s pretty obvious someone lost a bet or something or Sandler has pictures of them with farm animals or children. That’s the only explanation for this kind of crap getting made.

Anyway, click on through for the video. If you care, Jack and Jill comes out later this year.

Monster Bikinis, 10 Biggest Flops of 2011, and Jon Hamm’s Emotions Challenge are all On The Radar

by The Flickcast, Jul 8 2011 // 9:00 AM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• Now that Transformers 3 has made some of the most money in theaters this year, a few people are claiming that Michael Bay ripped himself off with re-rendered scenes from The Island.

• Who needs new formulas when we’ve got something as classic and plentiful as the Final Destination franchise. Here’s an example with the newest trailer for #5.

• Ladies, swimsuit season is right around the corner, and with these Monster Bikinis, you’ll definitely be the talk of the geeky town.

• Forbes recently uncovered that Sarah Jessica Parker is the highest paid actress in Hollywood. The weird part is that she’s only payed in sugar cubes and carrots…

• Sad to see a few favorites on this list, but here are the top 10 biggest flops of 2011 so far. (We still have to get through Captain America)

• Jon Hamm is a man of many emotions, and you can see them all in the Jon Hamm Emotions Challenge!

Web Video Roundup: 4 Minutes of ‘Batman Live!’, Transformers Meet My Little Pony, & ‘The Star Wars Zone’

by The Flickcast, Jul 6 2011 // 9:00 AM

We’re pretty big fans of all things viral here at The Flickcast, but given that there is just so much to report on when it comes to awesome web videos, we thought it was time we just spelled it all out for you in a comprehensive list for you to enjoy it all in a digestible package.

We all know how terrible Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is, either by first or second hand experience. But 4 minutes from the new Batman Live! stage show gives us Batman fighting a giant disembodied Joker head. Meh?

Who doesn’t love a good trailer mashup? How about when the two themes are both eerily similar in histories? That’s exactly what you get when My Little Pony meets Dark of the Moon in TransforMares: Dark of the NightMare Moon.

Speaking of trailer mashups (that are less ironic and more funny), here’s a mashup of the Source Code trailer with the popular game Half Life.

What if Luke Skywalker was the Billy Mumy, aka the creepy kid from the Twilight Zone episode where he made people disappear? Take a step into the Star Wars Zone to find out.

Getting deeper into the world of impressive shorts, this one takes a look at life from two different perspectives. We present to you Splitscreen: A Love Story.

Get A Glimpse At The Bleak Robot Future in ‘Robots of Brixton’ Short

by Matt Raub, Jul 5 2011 // 9:00 AM

Since the arrival of affordable and professional level video editing and effects equipment, it’s become more and more common for a small fan film on the Internet to have as good or better visuals (and often a story) than many of the big Hollywood  films we usually see. That case is clear once again with the new short film Robots of Brixton by Kibwe Tavares.

The film takes an interesting look at a futuristic (and not very optimistic) world where robots not only rule, but have the same hardships as humans.

With some of the most unsettling and gorgeous visuals we’ve seen in a some time, Brixton runs a short 5 and a half minutes. However, that time will go by fast and once you’re done, you’ll want to watch it again.

Check out the full synopsis and short itself after the jump.

Michael Bay in 60 Seconds, Marvel’s Short Films, & ‘The Matrix’ A Capella are all On The Radar

by Matt Raub, Jul 1 2011 // 3:30 PM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• Just because they seem to be running out of ideas that aren’t hand-delivered to them by either Marvel or Pixar, Disney is now working on a feature length film based on their Matterhorn ride. Let’s hope this one doesn’t spawn as many sequels as Pirates.

• Both No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Friends With Benefits starring Mila Kunis are eerily similar. How similar? Here’s a mashup trailer to prove it.

• Diablo Cody is stepping away from her hamburger-shaped typewriter and behind her hamburger-shaped camera as she takes on directing Lamb of God.

• In honor of his newest masterpiece hitting theaters, here is the premise to every Michael Bay film in under 60 seconds.

Natalie Zea, Diora Baird, & Robert Englund Star in ‘The Sexy Dark Ages’

by Matt Raub, Jun 9 2011 // 9:00 AM

TV genres come in big waves, whether it’s the faux superhero story with shows like Heroes and Modern Family, or mysterious sci-fi series like LOST, V, Surface, and countless others. Lately, the name of the game seems to be raunchy cable historical dramas.

Between shows like The Borgois, The Tudors, Camelot, and Game of Thrones, there are plenty of ways to see sexy and/or violent times of the middle ages. So why wouldn’t someone want to capitalize on this genre and get straight to the point?

That’s where Alex Fernie’s newest Funny or Die skit, The Sexy Dark Ages, comes in. Starring Justified’s Natalie Zea, Diora Baird, and Robert Englund, we get a look at a “brand new” series for Showtime, in which the concept of the overly sexual and dramatic historical fiction gets mocked beyond belief.

Not as many laugh-out-loud moments as you’d get from most FoD videos, but this clip is certainly a hot pick for anyone who’s hooked on shows like Game of Thrones, which is pretty big right now.

Check out the video after the jump, and pray that nobody from Showtime watches the video and decides to option this idea.

Will Ferrell & Zach Galifiniakis Feed Each Other Fruit in a new ‘Between Two Ferns’

by Matt Raub, May 27 2011 // 11:00 AM

While The Hangover Part II is projected to pull in $80 million this weekend, that hasn’t slowed down Zach Galifiniakis in his goal to produce on of the best (and cheapest) internet talk show out there.

On his show, which has been running for over a year now, he’s had guests like Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and Michael Cera all join in the awkward hilarity, and now he’s trying to top himself with his newest guest, Will Ferrell.

Straight from the set of The Office as Steve Carell’s temporary replacement, Ferrell stops by Two Ferns to compliment the atmosphere, show some new clips of monkeys, and feed the host fruit from his own mouth. There’s even a surprise appearance by a former guest.

Check out the episode after the jump, and see Galifiniakis in his Bangkok antics this weekend in The Hangover Part II.
