Woody Harrelson is a Crooken Cop In TheTrailer for ‘Rampart’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 22 2011 // 9:30 AM

Woody Harrelson has had an interesting revitalization in the past few years with films like Zombieland and 2012, but now it’s time for him to take on another meaty lead a la The People vs. Larry Flynt. Except this time you can expect a better film with Rampart.

The film’s got a pretty star-studded cast with Harrelson being joined by Ned Beatty, Ben Foster, Anne Heche, Ice Cube, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver, Robin Wright, and Steve Buscemi, but that’s not even as good as the story itself. Here’s the synopsis.

Los Angeles, 1999. Officer Dave Brown (Harrelson) is a Vietnam vet and a Rampart Precinct cop, dedicated to doing “the people’s dirty work” and asserting his own code of justice, often blurring the lines between right and wrong to maintain his action-hero state of mind. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a personal and emotional downward spiral as the consequences of his past sins and his refusal to change his ways in light of a department-wide corruption scandal seal his fate.

Brown internalizes his fear, anguish and paranoia as his world, complete with two ex-wives who are sisters, two daughters, an aging mentor dispensing bad advice, investigators galore, and a series of seemingly random women, starts making less and less sense. In the end, what is left is a human being stripped of all his pretense, machismo, chauvinism, arrogance, sexism, homophobia, racism, aggression, misanthropy; but is it enough to redeem him as a man?

Take a look at the trailer below to see the film in action, and catch Rampart in limited theaters on November 23rd.

Film Review: ‘Cedar Rapids’

by Shannon Hood, Feb 22 2011 // 10:30 AM

This little comedy  features a terrific ensemble cast anchored by the ever more endearing Ed Helms.  After his break-out performance in The Hangover, and a regular role on television’s The Office, this is icing on the cake. Helms shows some range in this unexpectedly sweet, but raucous comedy.

Helms plays Tim Lippe, quite possibly the worlds most naive grown man. He’s never left his home-town, never been on a plane, and never been in a hotel before. He’s blissfully unaware of the world outside his job and home. Speaking of home, he spends his evenings bedding his old junior high teacher, played by Sigourney Weaver.

Lippe has managed to hold down a job at an insurance company, and thanks to his kind demeanor, he has a nice portfolio of clients. When the company’s golden boy dies under particularly embarrassing circumstances, Lippe is called upon to represent the company at a convention held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  It might as well be Paris or Rome, because Lippe is giddy as a schoolboy at the prospect of going to the convention.

He’s also quite nervous, because he has the responsibility of making the case for his office to win the “Two Diamond” award, which is tops for the folks heading to this convention.

A ‘Special’ Promo for HBO’s ‘Hung’

by Joe Gillis, Jun 30 2009 // 6:30 AM

thomas-jane-hungPreviously, we gave you some info about the new HBO show Hung, featuring Thomas Jane as a guy with problems, no money and no choice who ends up using the one big asset he has left to make a living. Yes, I’m talking about his penis. There, I said it. The show is about a guy who with a large penis who becomes a prostitute and uses his penis to make a living.

Moving past that, reviews of the show and mentions of it online have all made one “penis” joke or another because the show is, ostensibly, about a guy’s member and most people who write tv reviews these days, particularly online, tend to act like ten year old boys. Of course, the crazy kids at Jimmy Kimmel Live decided to take it one step further and made a video to show you exactly what that means. But really, can you blame them? The show is about a guy’s penis after all.

No, the video doesn’t feature any Thomas Jane nudity, sorry ladies. It is, however, quite funny and worth a look. Hung airs Sundays at 10PM on HBO. Check out the video after the jump.

Thomas Jane Gets ‘Hung’ for HBO

by Joe Gillis, May 27 2009 // 10:30 AM

thomas-janeComing to you directly from the “this sounds interesting but could really end up sucking” department (yes, we have on of those here at The Flickcast) is this bit of news from Variety about a new series for HBO called Hung. The show, which stars Thomas Jane (The Punisher), concerns a man with a rather large member (read penis) who decides he wants to make some money with it. Yes, you read that correctly.

How does he want to make money with it? Well, you’ll just have to wait for the show to debut to find out. Fortunately, that won’t be too long from now as it starts on June 28th and will run at 10:00 pm — right after the second season of True Blood, which returns on June 12th.

Also according to Variety, the first episode will run for 45 minutes, with all others being 30 minutes in length. Co-Starring with Jane in the series are Jane Adams and Anne Heche. Also of note is that the pilot for Hung was directed by Alexander Payne, who directed, and won the Oscar for writing, Sideways. He was also nominated for directing Sideways and for writing Election.

Jane and Payne together again for the very first time. Could be interesting. I guess we’ll find out on June 28th.
