Just in time for Joe Johnston to bring us yet another classic WWII era superhero in Captain America, The First Avenger, another film of his is hitting a milestone. Last week marked the 20th anniversary of the release of Disney’s The Rocketeer.
Hard to believe it’s been that long since Billy Campbell donned the brass helmet and flew around the Disney back lot with Alan Arkin by his side, but here we are.
Because the film was such a classic, as was Dave Stevens’ original comic book, diehard fan and animator John Banana put together a little homage animated short in which The Rocketeer shows some of his stuff.
The animation style is superb and the short managed to capture the original magic and wonder that the film brought us back in 1991. All without the use of Jennifer Connelly, Timothy Dalton, or Terry “Locke” O’Quinn.
Check it out after the jump, and let’s hope this revitalizes interest in the project enough for Disney to give us an animated reboot!

AMC’s murder mystery drama series The Killing as somewhat of a frustrating show. It features some very strong characters and good performances from a majority of the cast but it also has often glacial pacing that tries even the patience of this seasoned TV viewer.
I really want to like the show. However, I sometimes find myself fast forwarding through some of it (the parents of the dead girl for example) to get to the murder mystery scenes. That’s just more interesting to me and what the show is supposed to be about: Who killed Rosie Larson?
Anyway, my issues with the show haven’t stopped AMC from renewing it for a second season. So, I guess I’ll get another chance to see if I end up liking it more. This, of course, brings up the question of the season finale which airs this Sunday.
Now that we pretty much know who the killer is, will everything get resolved? My guess is probably not. In fact, I expect a bit of a cliffhanger to entice viewers to come back for Season 2.
I guess we’ll see on Sunday.

One of the nice things about working for a site such as this (besides the huge salary) is that you sometimes get to see things like movies and tv shows early. You also get a lot of trailers and promos thrown your way, which is pretty cool too. Case in point are the three promos NBC sent us today for some of their upcoming series and a tv movie.
We’ve been able to bring you some stuff about two of these shows, Parenthood and Community, before. But now we’ve also got some cool Meteor goodness to share with you as well. As a big fan of those 70s disaster movies like Towering Inferno and Earthquake, movies where a giant meteor is hurling towards earth and only a handful of people, including Marla Sokoloff (The Practice) and Billy Campbell (The 4400, The Rocketeer) can save us, hold a special place in my heart.
So naturally, I’m looking forward to NBC’s show about just that. Be sure and check out all the cool promos after the jump. Meteor hits your tv this Sunday at 9/8C. For all the info on NBC’s upcoming slate of other shows, head on over to their official site.
