Latest Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’

by John Muth, Jan 4 2010 // 12:00 PM

inception-poster1Warnr Bros. has released a new trailer for the new science fiction, mind-bending reality movie Inception, written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and other past collaborators with Nolan, the movie has been given the tagline, “Your mind is the scene of the crime.” There was also a new poster put online recently, which can be seen at right.

The thing of interest in this new trailer is just how far Nolan seems to be going with the visuals. In the first trailer, there was a couple moments of what seemed like gravity shifting, and a glass of water tilting, and guys jumping around shooting guns, a la The Matrix. Here, there’s a moment of a city block raising up, perpendicular to the street the camera is shooting from.

There’s also more from the top, which seems to be the visual symbol for this movie, and more of the water that was visible on the previous poster. Inception is scheduled to be released July 16, 2010, in standard and IMAX formats. Check out the trailer after the break.

Latest Poster for Nolan’s ‘Inception’ Released

by John Muth, Dec 16 2009 // 8:00 AM

inceptionposter-sm Inception, Christopher Nolan’s new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and a whole slew of other great names including Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine has finally got a new poster. Other than the fact that its brand new, the big hullabaloo about it is it’s uncanny resemblance to a poster for The Dark Knight, which featured Heath Ledger’s ‘Joker’ facing away from us, with a couple of cards in one hand and a knife in the other.

Both also feature their single character in the middle of a street with a city’s high-rises walling them in. Of course, one of the main differences in the poster for Inception is that DiCaprio’s character is knee-deep in water. The tagline that has already become an Internet meme in itself, “You mind is the scene of the crime,” sits at the top.

The other more interesting question raised by this poster is at the bottom where it states “see it Summer 2010 in IMAX.” I understand that it’s becoming a normal occurrence for summer blockbusters to be released in this format and Nolan has even become obsessed, you might say, with using the IMAX format, but I can’t help but wonder if this movie will actually benefit from being on the larger screen.

I trust that Nolan knows what he’s doing, and the teaser trailer that’s been released, looks pretty amazing.  Anyway, check out the larger poster after the break and mark July 16 2010 on your calendar.

‘Superman’ Continues to Face Legal Kryptonite

by Bob Starr, Nov 27 2009 // 12:00 PM

Lex with KryptoniteThe Superman franchise continues to struggle as more details emerge from Warner Brothers.  In short, Warner Brothers still isn’t doing anything with the project. According to Warner Brothers insiders:

“The studio is still seeking the right direction. No writers are working on a Superman script. ‘We’re working on a strategy for DC,’ says one Warners exec. ‘Superman is the trickiest one to figure out.’ “

Still “seeking the right direction”? No writers? Tricky to figure out? How “tricky” can this be?  You only have several movies and hundreds of comics to draw inspiration from. Get it together Warner Brothers.

Now, there is the legal matter to deal with which is rather tricky. I can appreciate the fact WB wants these legalities with the Siegel Estate put to rest but seriously, get moving. Providing some indication that you’re actively developing a new movie could certainly help your case instead of simply squandering time.

Sadly, the only direction left for this property is the dreaded “r” word-reboot. Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns hardly met the studios expectations (but I for one liked it).  Having made $391 million worldwide it cost $232 million to make. Do the math and you can’t even compare that film to something like Christopher Nolan’s billion dollar Batman movie, The Dark Knight.

As we’ve noted on The Flickcast before the Siegel family will reclaim the Superman rights in 2013.  That means at a minimum film production has to start by 2011 (and that’s pushing it). The clock is ticking. Time to start moving faster than a speeding bullet Warner Brothers.

Teaser for Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ Goes Live

by Matt Raub, Aug 24 2009 // 11:00 AM

christopher-nolan-director-1Those who went out to see Inglourious Basterds this weekend didn’t only get close to 3 hours of nat-zee killing action, but also the very first peak at writer/director Christopher Nolan’s newest film starring Leo DiCaprio.

Not much is known about the film, other than it is “a contemporary science fiction tale set in the architecture of the mind”, and that Leo will be playing Jacob Hastley, a CEO that becomes involved in a blackmailing scandal. This is the first writing and directorial efforts of Nolan’s since last year’s critically acclaimed Dark Knight.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins), Joseph Gordon Levitt (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Ellen Page (Juno), and Michael Caine. Inception is set to hit theaters July 16 of next year. You can check out the trailer after the jump.

SDCC: Gary Oldman: ‘Batman 3′ To Start Filming Next Year

by Cortney Zamm, Jul 24 2009 // 1:35 PM

the-dark-knightAccording to Gary Oldman, the next installment of the Batman franchise will begin filming next year. The news was broken at the Book of Eli panel this morning, according to Coming Soon. When a fan asked him about a follow up to last year’s smash hit The Dark Knight, Oldman replied, “We start shooting next year. You didn’t hear that from me.”

This is huge news, as we had previously reported that Nolan wasn’t even sure they had a story for Batman 3. And while we won’t know for sure until Nolan or Warner Brothers confirms the announcement, this is huge news for Batman fans everywhere.

Bale Says ‘Batman 3′ Will Be Nolan Free?

by Cortney Zamm, Jun 22 2009 // 4:07 PM

NolanThere were a lot of rumors about the third Batman movie floating around after The Dark Knight’s success last year- Johnny Depp as The Riddler, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin… but will there even be a third movie?

Well, Christian Bale certainly doesn’t know. I truly don’t know that we’re ever going to see another Batman movie,” he said to MTV while promoting “Public Enemies”. He went on to explain that Nolan wouldn’t make another movie without a good story. “…if he can’t find that, then it wouldn’t happen,” Bale concluded.
