While Torchwood is a name that is becoming more an more familiar to American audiences since Starz started airing the this season, it’s been on the top list of quality TV for fans in the UK (or “in the know”) for years now.
The show started off as a small spinoff of the ratings juggernaut Doctor Who, and managed to slowly build an audience comparable to the material in which it was created. With series creator Russell T. Davies, the series managed to bounce all over the BBC networks and eventually get a primetime slot on one of their big channels.
With that growing success, it only made sense to bring the show here to the US, where the population could easily boost those ratings into something the UK rarely gets to see. That’s where Starz comes in.
We got the chance to speak with series star Eve Myles, who has the fortune of being with the series from the pilot, all the way through its reincarnation here on US soil. She mentioned how different the production has been, and how new and exciting this incarnation of the fictional Torchwood team is.
Check out what she had to say after the jump, and catch Torchwood: Miracle Day airing on Starz every Friday.

This past year has marked a pretty big time for shows on the BBC, as US network TV finally started paying attention to how good some of the programming was and decided to jump on the bandwagon. In some cases, such as Syfy’s Being Human, the network took the idea but none of the original folks that worked on it. That’s not what happened, however, with Torchwood.
Originally starting on a little BBC offshoot, the Doctor Who spinoff grew in popularity and has now been brought over to the States by STARZ in a whole new, updated version. The show while still stays in canon with the earlier version and keeps the show’s main stars John Barrowman and Eve Myles.
We got a chance to speak with Barrowman about playing his favorite superhero, Captain Jack Harkness, for so many years, as well as what it’s like bringing the show from the UK to the US.
Also, John mentioned that Captain Jack wasn’t the only hero he’s had the honor of trying out for. He’s been a huge Captain America fan for years, but back in 2004, he even auditioned to play the lead in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns before they inevitably went with Brandon Routh.
Check out what John Barrowman had to say about all these things and more in our interview after the jump. Catch Torchwood: Miracle Day airing Friday nights at 10/9C on STARZ.

Not sure about you but pretty much everyone here at The Flickcast is really looking forward to the upcoming Starz/BBC series Torchwood: Miracle Day. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks to be even bigger, badder (in a good way) and more action-packed than all the previous seasons of Torchwood put together.
As we’ve had before with the first trailer, we’ve got another video to help get you ready for all the fun. In this one we got a look at a lot of the action, creatures and story of the series plus interviews with the top stars, writers and producers. All in, it’s a lot of info and makes the show look even cooler (as if that’s possible).
Click through for the video. Torchwood: Miracle Day stars John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Lauren Ambrose. It premieres Friday, July 8th on Starz.

Not much longer to wait now as the premiere of Torchwood: Miracle Day is is only a little over a month away. In anticipation of that great day, we’ve got a brand new trailer for the show to share with you today.
In it you get the first real look at our favorite characters in action and also a peek at some of the new ones we will be seeing during the show’s run. It’s nice to see the gang back in action.
In case you’re not familiar with the new Torchwood, it will also feature new characters and actors including Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Lauren Ambrose.
Turning to the story, here’s what its all about:
It begins with a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging, they get hurt and sick, but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite.
But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson (Phifer) investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?,” he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.
Check out the trailer after the break. Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres on July 8th at 10/9C on Starz.

We’ve been hearing about this possibility for quite some time but now it looks like we’ll finally be getting a fourth season of the awesome Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood. And as if that’s not good enough, we have even more awesome news to share with you.
Not only will the show be back with Captain Jack (John Barrowman), Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and show runner Russell T. Davies onboard, it will feature a new “International” flavor and will not air on BBC America in the States. Instead, the show will run on Starz, home to one of our favorite shows of all time: Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Awesome news.
“’Torchwood’ has to date been located primarily in Cardiff, Wales,” Starz’s press release said. “The new series will allow Davies and his writing team to tell a more explosive and global story, one that takes advantage of the unlimited narrative opportunities of a premium television service like Starz.”
Does this mean we’ll be seeing more now that the show will be airing on Starz? More action, more violence, more blood and more of Captain jack and Gwen Cooper? Only time will tell. Still, with Torchwood already being a rather adult show anyway, now with it airing on Starz, where judging by Spartacus pretty much anything goes, the “unlimited narrative possibilities” are pretty great indeed. Who knows, maybe we’ll even see a Spartacus / Torchwood crossover episode? That could be cool.
Check out the full Starz press release after the jump. Look for the fourth season of Torchwood to hit Summer of 2011.

Maybe Fox didn’t like Russell T. Davies script after they read it? Or perhaps they thought the show about an elite team that tries to stop aliens invasions would be too expensive to do on a weekly basis? Or maybe they realized, finally, that the immortal lead character of Captain Jack likes to shag both women and men? Guess they’ve never actually watched the show before.
Whatever the reason, angry fans of the BBC’s Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood can rest easy as Fox has decided not to go through with their plans to adapt the show for the United States.
“BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized ‘Torchwood’ format,” said BBC Worldwide in a statement. “We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.”
To further illustrate that last bit, BBC Worldwide executive vp of programming and production Jane Tranter reiterated that a U.S. version was still making progress. “It’s very much ongoing and very much alive,” Tranter said. Well, that’s good news at least. Right? Or not. To be honest, I kinda like my Torchwood the way it is.
Although, the Americanized version of the british hit Coupling didn’t turn out so bad a few years ago and actually did very well for itself. Coupling became Friends in the US, in case you were wondering.

If you’ve been hoping for more Torchwood, the quirky and sexy British series about a group of investigators who fight aliens, you might be in luck – sorta. In the fine tradition of bringing British TV shows to the U.S. market, Fox has announced they are developing a version of Torchwood with original series creator Russell T. Davies.
According to the article, fans of the original series need not worry it will be somehow ruined by coming to the States because the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter are going to be there to ensure the new show stays true to its origins.
Also, some of the current cast, which most likely will include John Barrowman (who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness), might star if Fox decides to order a Torchwood pilot. No word yet on Eve Myles or Gareth David-Lloyd, but hopefully they would be involved as well. The U.S. version will involve a global story line compared to the more localized one of the first two BBC seasons. In addition, you can expect the budget to be higher as well, which will allow for more cool aliens and such.
So what do we think of this? Good idea or terrible idea?

As you might have guessed, we’re big fans of the BBC show Torchwood here at The Flickcast. And now that the new, albiet very short, season is almost here, we’re pretty excited about the further adventures of Ianto, Gwen and Captain Jack. Last time, we had two minutes of footage from the first episode to show you.
Now, we’ve got an even longer clip to bring you. In fact, its the first seven minutes of the first episode, which is pretty darn cool. Torchwood will also be at Comic-Con in San Diego with a screening of the final episode on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30pm and a panel session on Sunday, July 26 at 2:15pm.
Creator Russell T. Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lynn will be on hand as well and we’re hoping to snag some interviews. Meantime, Torchwood: Children of Earth premieres five nights straight starting on Monday, July 20 at 9E/P on BBC America. Until then, be sure to check out the first seven minutes of the show after the break.

Even though its already started in the UK, the third season of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood is still something we have to wait for and look forward to here in the States. Sadly, even with the wait, we won’t get very many episodes this time around because of the BBC’s decision to only produce a five episode mini-series instead of a full season.
We’re not sure of the logic behind that decision, but at least we’ll still get a new adventure featuring some of our favorite Torchwood characters like Ianto, Gwen and the man himself, Captain jack Harkness. We’ve covered the show before and brought you the first trailer. And now, thanks to the BBC, we’ve got another longer clip to show you — which is about two minute and near the end, pretty creepy and cool.
In case you’re not familiar with the story arc of this season of Torchwood, it concerns all the children on Earth who suddenly stop moving as if paralyzed, and Torchwood discovers that, big surprise, an alien threat is behind this sinister plot. Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles), Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd), Rhys (Kai Owen) and even PC Andy (Tom Price) all return to help discover the truth and save the day.
Torchwood: Children of Earth is on the BBC in the UK now and comes to BBC America on July 20. Check out the new clip after the jump.
