New ‘Family Guy’ Spoof Announced for This Holiday Season

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jul 28 2010 // 7:00 AM

For those Family Guy fans who have been impatiently waiting for the next installment of their Star Wars parody series, you need wait no longer. Seth McFarlane and crew have taken on the last film of the original series,  Return of the Jedi.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that the new film, Family Guy: It’s a Trap! will be available right in time for Christmas. It will be available in both Blu-ray and DVD formats. Those lucky enough to get into the Comic-Con panel received a 10 minute preview of the new spoof and from various reports it doesn’t disappoint. The rest of us will unfortunately have to wait  until December to get a glimpse.

The press release is touting an all-star array of guest stars including Adam West and Carrie Fisher. We also have the privilege of having Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn reprise their Star Trek roles once again. For those who have not purchased the previous two films, it was also announced  that they will be releasing a triple-pack of all three Star Wars spoofs.

If you are willing to wait, there is a chance that they will follow suit of their last release, Family Guy: Something Something Something Darkside, and utilize Family Guy: It’s a Trap! as next season’s finale. There is no report about what special features will be available or whether there will be any other special editions released concurrently.

Look for Family Guy: It’s a Trap! on December 21st when it hits stores nationwide. For more Family Guy news keep it here at The Flickcast.

App Review: Hulu Plus for the iPhone

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jul 22 2010 // 9:00 AM

Since the announcement of Hulu’s pay service (aptly titled Hulu Plus), the big question on everyone’s mind is simple: Why pay for a service that I was getting for free? Well, we’re happy to say that it’s definitely worth it. The worth became apparent to me as I stood in a 45 minute line at Comic-Con in San Diego and passed the time by watching episodes of Family Guy and The Office.

You may be saying to yourself: “I have plenty of videos on my iPhone so who cares.” and before today I could agree with you. There is something incredibly freeing about having access to the handful of movies or TV shows stored on your iPhone. The wonderful new Hulu Plus app gives you instant access to every episode of hundreds of different TV shows and movies.

Unlike previous streaming technologies, such as Slingbox, that required WiFi, the videos streamed seamlessly using the 3G network and the quality was on par with any video purchased in iTunes. Another concern that usually pops up with programs like this is how it will handle multitasking when faced with oncoming texts and phone calls.

Hulu Plus performs admirably by reloading the video where you left off, rather than restarting from the beginning.

Fox Sets Fall TV Premiere Dates

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 13 2010 // 3:00 PM

Some of our favorite shows happen to be on the Fox Network. Sure, Fox is also the network that, shall we say “mis-handled” both Firefly and Dollhouse, but that doesn’t stop them from also having some shows we really like.

With that in mind, we bring you the announcement of Fox’s premiere dates for most of its upcoming Fall shows. Some of the ones we are most interested in include the return of House on September 20th, the return of Glee on September 21st, the return of Fringe on September 23rd and the return of Human Target on September 24th.

Also, Family Guy is back on October 3rd with a one-hour special which will, most likely, feature a couple musical numbers. Click through for the full schedule of new and returning Fox shows along with their premiere dates.

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 10 2010 // 11:34 AM

Another day, another piece of the San Diego Comic-Con 2010 schedule puzzle is revealed. Today, the folks who run the Con have graced us with the Saturday schedule and like the previous days, Friday and Thursday, it’s got a lot of stuff we want to see but probably won’t end up getting to. Still, we can dream — and try our best.

Some of the stuff we are looking forward to seeing on Saturday include the Chuck screening and Q&A, the Family Guy panel, Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern, Sucker Punch, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows panels, Futurama, the Community Cast and Creative Team panel, Fringe and Warehouse 13 panels, the Comic-Con Masquerade sponsored by HBO’s True Blood and so much more.

Plus, we will be having an event on Saturday as well in the late afternoon. More details on that soon but rest assured, it will be cool and you will want to be there.

Click through for the full Saturday schedule, as of today. Be sure to check back right here at The Flickcast for more San Diego Comic-Con coverage than you can possibly handle.

Get A Sneak Peek At The ‘Futurama’ Premiere

by Matt Raub, Jun 14 2010 // 3:00 PM

Good news, everyone. Futurama is returning to TV! But you already knew that, didn’t you? For those who didn’t, the epic sci-fi animated series received a stay of execution from the benevolent Comedy Central, who originally obtained the rights to syndicate the show and air all of the direct-to-DVD movies.

The new series picks up on June 24th, but we’ve got a brand new look at the first episode today. There was a bit of panic for a while on whether or not Comedy Central was willing to pay the original voice cast to return to the show, but that was almost immediately quashed, and they’ll all be returning.

The franchise had moderate success after it’s series of DVD movies, all of which were syndicated on Comedy Central. Much like Family Guy, it seems that the fans just won’t let this show go down. Check out the brand new clip after the jump, and you’ll see that, just like they’ve done in the past, even this scene has a few tongue-in-cheek lines on where they’ve been, and how they are back on the air.

Check out the clip after the jump, and join Bender, Leela, Fry, and the whole gang as they return on Thursday, June 24th, at 10/9C.

‘The Drawn Together Movie’ Gets A Teaser Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Feb 18 2010 // 8:00 AM

Back at Comic-Con in San Diego last year we heard some interesting news that the raunchy animated series, Drawn Together, would be getting a direct-to-DVD movie release. We, of course, tried to get as much information on the project as we could, and came up with nothing.

For those who didn’t catch the Comedy Central series while it was on, it was about a group of classic cartoon stereotypes that get thrown into a reality show house, a la Big Brother. From there, things got pretty outrageous, from mass murder, to racism, to bisexual hot tub sex and more. It was pretty impressive that they were able to top the likes of South Park and Family Guy in a matter of 3 seasons.

Now, we’re finally getting a glimpse at what could be the most outrageous animated film of all time since Bambi Vs. Godzilla, as the first teaser trailer for the film has been released. The trailer doesn’t really give us much to go on, but it keeps hope alive that the project is still happening, and is approaching sooner than anticipated.

Check out the new trailer after the jump, and be sure to catch all of the seasons of Comedy Central’s Drawn Together on DVD and Blu-ray.

Adult Swim Orders Two More Seasons Of ‘Robot Chicken’

by Matt Raub, Jan 21 2010 // 2:00 PM

51XWAxJT8fL-783188While Adult Swim may just be a subdivision of Cartoon Network, a cable network that bases itself on mainly animated programming, they seem to be doing quite well for themselves. They’ve been able to stack the deck with highly watched syndicated shows, and outrageously funny original programming. One original show in particular is doing better than even the show creators were expecting is Robot Chicken.

The show, which is a 15-minute comedy done entirely with stop-motion animation and old MEGO dolls, was created back in 2005 by Seth Green and partner Matt Senreich. Since then, the show has grown in leaps and bounds, popularity-wise.The network has just ordered a whopping 40 new episodes (roughly two new seasons) of the show, and according to Variety, the creators are more surprised than we are.

“It’s kind of amazing,” Green said. “We never expected to do a second season, let alone a fifth and sixth. We’re really busy, but we’re still having a lot of fun making it.”

by Joe Gillis, Dec 22 2009 // 3:00 PM

Picture 2

With Christmas less than 72 hours away, it looks like the studios are putting out quite a few last-minute gift ideas for you to snatch just in time to throw under the tree. This week’s big releases include District 9, (500) Days of Summer, and the second Family Guy Star Wars Special: Something Something Something Dark Side.

Of these releases, we are all pretty excited about the new Family Guy DVD this week. It’s the sequel to 2007′s Blue Harvest Star Wars special. This time, Seth McFarlane and his team spoof the events of The Empire Strikes Back. This special is never-before-seen, and won’t get airtime until mid-March.

Check out this week’s releases:

Movies

District 9 ~ Sharlto Copley, David James, Jason Cope (DVD and Blu-ray)

(500) Days of Summer ~ Zooey Deschanel, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (DVD and Blu-ray)

All About Steve ~ Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Thomas Haden Church (DVD and Blu-ray)

First full Trailer for Family Guy’s ‘Something Something Something Dark Side’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 30 2009 // 1:30 PM

FamilyGuyStarWars2Hard to believe it has been over 2 years since Family Guy aired it’s first Star Wars special, “Blue Harvest.” And now, we’re less than a month away from the highly anticipated follow-up special, “Something Something Something Dark Side.” The specials were originally set to air consecutively each year, but due to the popularity of the first, FOX decided to milk this cow for all it was worth and delay the release until now.

Last we left our heroes, Chris had destroyed the Death Star with the help of Han, thwarting Stewie’s plan to take out the rebel alliance, all while Lois and Chris grew closer together, not knowing their true relationship. Strange how this plot seems familiar.

In the next special, we of course get a direct parody of The Empire Strikes Back, with Hoth, Jon Benjamin as Yoda, and even the evil chicken as Boba Fett. Check out the full trailer after the jump. Keep your eye on the DVD shelves, as Something Something Something Dark Side is set to hit stores on December 22nd.

Fan Film Friday: ‘Titular Movie Lines’

by Matt Raub, Nov 6 2009 // 12:15 PM

Picture 2We here at The Flickcast are fans of just about all films, but some of us around the office still get tickled when we hear the titular line in a film thrown out. Many comedy series have spoofed this concept, such as Upright Citizens Brigade with “I’m sick of all these Star Wars!” or Family Guy with “That’s why they call me Superman 4: The Quest For Peace” but nobody has ever gone to the length’s of this week’s Fan Film Friday Creator.

The cool cats over at VideoGum put together a pretty impressive compilation of just about every film that uses the title in dialogue. From Fried Green Tomatoes to Minority Report, this compilation has it all. It makes you wonder if the writers are being clever with that line, or actually really lazy.

Check out the full video after the jump, and if there’s a line or two that you can think of that was omitted, the creator of the video, Gabe, is welcoming all suggestions and comments, so shoot him an e-mail. Enjoy!

FOX Hosts ‘Simpsons Scavenger Hunt’

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 3 2009 // 9:15 AM

simp_couch20FFar-gone are the days when networks held enough power and importance to have TV crossovers and intermixing story lines, much like the days when George Reeves would pop up on I Love Lucy or story lines interweave between Buffy and Angel. Fox seems to be the only network with interest in doing such stunts, as Family Guy’s Stewie popped up on an episode of Bones.

Well, it looks like Fox is doing it once again with an announcement for a Simpsons on-air scavenger hunt in celebrating 20 years of broadcasting TV’s favorite animated family. In a press release, the network announces that it will start on November 9th, and go for an entire week.

FOX is paying “homage” to 20 years of television’s favorite yellow family with the network’s first-ever on-air scavenger hunt. Beginning Monday, Nov. 9 and continuing through Friday, Nov. 13, fans can watch FOX each night to find SIMPSONS shout-outs, tributes and clues featured in primetime programming and on-air promos.

One lucky winner will receive the ultimate SIMPSONS prize package, including a trip for two to Los Angeles to attend a SIMPSONS table read with the Emmy Award-winning voice cast and producers, a home entertainment system, SIMPSONS DVDs and merchandise and tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood, home of The Simpsons Ride.

Anybody over the age of 13 can participate, and once they catch the shout-out, be sure to visit www.fox.com/scavengerhunt each night to test their knowledge and download some pretty cool Simpsons goodies. The contest officially starts after next week’s episode of Simpsons, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
