New Full Trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 Finally Hits

by Matt Raub, Jan 30 2012 // 9:00 AM

After months of dragon and sword-less action in our lives, HBO has finally released a full trailer for the upcoming second season of the incredibly popular Game of Thrones series. No more fancy graphics with shadowy images or ominous lines that make no sense, there’s some real plot stuff in here.

Okay, maybe a few more ominous lines…

Not much is really known about what we can expect to see in this upcoming season, but we do know that anybody can be killed. Here’s a quick blurb on the overall season from the official GoT Wiki page:

Season 2 is closely based on A Clash of Kings, the second novel in the Song of Ice and Fire novel series by George R.R. Martin. Some characters and elements from the first novel, A Game of Thrones, have been held back for the second season and some other elements were brought forward into the first for production reasons.

Take a look at the sweet new trailer after the jump, and catch the new season on April 1, only on HBO.

Geek and Chic: How to Shop for the Perfect Nerdy T-Shirt

by Matt Blackwood, Jan 6 2012 // 9:00 AM

It’s hardly controversial to say that most nerds are not fashionistas. There probably isn’t a lot of demographic crossover between The Twilight Zone and Project Runway. Those nerds who are sew-inclined tend to spend their time on cosplay; their catwalk is the convention floor. The majority of us simply have no idea what fashion is about or how it fits into the Campbellian Monomyth.

It’s not a coincidence that most classic sci-fi depicts the future populace in shiny matching coveralls. We just don’t pay that much attention to clothing. The only thing most nerds wish was in their wardrobes was the magical land of Narnia.

But we have to wear something.

Hence the Nerdy Tee. A simple, classic article of clothing that never seems to go out of style, the T-shirt is the epitome of casual cool. It looks equally at home on a guy or a girl. It can be worn tight for those of us who want to show off our shape or loose for those of us who’d rather not. It’s relatively cheap and easy to launder. And since there’s nothing nerds like more than showing off their obsessions (with buttons, stickers, lunchboxes, action figures, posters, etc.), adorning our T-shirts with nerd iconography is a no-brainer.

Producer’s Guild Awards Nominations Announced

by Joe Gillis, Jan 3 2012 // 10:30 AM

In case you didn’t realize it, there’s a lot of groups in Hollywood that like to give awards. From the Screen Actors Guild to the Writers Guild to the big one, the Academy Awards, it often seems that Hollywod loves awards as much as it likes making movies.

Besides the ones mentioned above, there’s another group that gives awards each year: film and TV producers. That group, collectively known as the Producers Guild of America or PGA, has released its nominations today and we’ve got them for you, and the rest of their press release, below. Check it out.

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 3, 2012) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the motion picture and long-form television nominations for the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards. The categories include: The Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures; The Producers Guild of America Producer of the Year Award in Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures; and The David L. Wolper Producer of the Year Award in Long-Form Television. The documentary film category and other television category nominations were already announced by the Guild in December 2011.

All 2012 Producers Guild Award winners will be announced on January 21, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. This year, the Producers Guild will also award special honors to Leslie Moonves (Milestone Award), Steven Spielberg (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures), Don Mischer (Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television), Stan Lee (Vanguard Award), and IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY (The Stanley Kramer Award). The 2012 Producers Guild Awards co-chairs are Paula Wagner and Michael Manheim.

Check out the First Traler for the ‘Game of Thrones’ RPG

by Matt Raub, Dec 26 2011 // 8:00 AM

Yes. Winter is definitely coming. This time, it’s coming to your gaming consoles and PC, as Game of Thrones is getting it’s very own RPG adaptation.

Straight from the relatively small game publisher Cyanide Studios, who had put out a Game of Thrones strategy game earlier this game, and also were the minds behind the popular “fantasy” football game, Blood Bowl, comes the first George R.R. Martin and HBO-sanctioned Game of Thrones video game to date.

The game looks to stem from a few other popular games in the genre such as Skyrim, Dragon Age, and Assassin’s Creed with the aesthetic and feel of the environment, with some of our favorite characters from A Song of Fire and Ice making cameo appearances throughout the game.

With major distribution on XBox 360 and the PS3, the game is set to hit shelves early next year, just in time for the second season of the show to air on HBO. Take a look at tons of the game’s characters and events in the trailer after the jump, and prepare for the oncoming winter.

Golden Globe Nominations Announced

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Dec 15 2011 // 10:30 AM

It is award season and one of the biggest award shows has just chimed in with it’s annual nomination list. The Golden Globes is often considered the biggest indicator for the Oscars, and even though that is not true, the show is usually fun. Especially when they get a host as fearless as Ricky Gervais.

One of the most interesting aspects of the show is that the Hollywood Foreign Press also salutes Television in their annual show, so it ends up being more of a celebration of entertainment and less about being a stodgy film industry banquet. Along with the TV nominees, the HFPA gives us the Best Comedy or Musical category, allowing for a larger variety of films to be showcased.

The nominations themselves are not overly surprising, but it is always good to see shows like Game of Thrones and movies like Hugo getting some love. We also see Moneyball getting a lot of attention, including Jonah Hill for supporting actor, he already picked up a SAG nomination yesterday, could the comedic actor be up for an Academy Award soon?

Check out the full list of nominations after the jump.

All New Teaser for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 is Here

by Matt Raub, Dec 12 2011 // 7:30 AM

Things may have been pretty explosive on the finale of Boardwalk Empire last night, the real excitement is a few short months away when the critically acclaimed series Game of Thrones returns for what should be an even more amazing second season.

We left off with some pretty big question marks, and even bigger exclamation points at the end of last season, and while we won’t see Sean Bean making a return (spoiler!), we hope to get some amazing storytelling and even more amazing twists this season.

The newest teaser for the season hit the air last night, and we’ve got it for you to check out after the jump. Catch the all new season of Game of Thrones on HBO starting in April.

WGA Announces TV Writing Nominations

by Chris Ullrich, Dec 7 2011 // 1:30 PM

Even though this is technically a blog, we like to think of ourselves primarily as writers here at The Flickcast. Many of us have even been paid to write over the years and you can bet that pretty much everyone here has one or two screenplays, comic books or other literary works they are currently working on. It’s just the nature of things.

So, when the Writer’s Guild of America announces the nominations for outstanding writing for Television, we take notice and bring you all the details. That’s especially true when the top nominees are shows we really like.

One such show is Showtime’s freshman drama Homeland, which received 3 nominations including best drama series, best new series and best episodic drama. Homeland tied with perennial favorites Modern Family, Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire for the most nominations.

In addition to Homeland, Game Of Thrones, The Killing, New Girl and the Matt LeBlanc comedy Episodes all received nominations with Showtime getting a first time record of six for its shows. You may be wondering where Mad Men is in all of this?

Sadly, as the fifth season of the show was delayed, it didn’t make the cut for eligibility for this year’s awards. That’s probably okay as it gives a few other shows, like Homeland and Game of Thrones, a chance to shine. Can’t have Mad Men taking up all the awards, now can we?

The winners will be announced at the 2012 Writers Guild Awards on Feb. 19, 2012, at simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Click through for the full list of nominee.

Winter Is Here As First Teaser for HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Season Two Arrives

by Joe Gillis, Nov 21 2011 // 10:30 AM

I will admit something to you. When I first heard about HBO’s planned adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones, I was skeptical.

Fortunately, that was put to rest almost immediately by the show’s awesomeness and since then it has become one of my favorites. Of course, if you’re a huge fan of the show like I am, you can’t wait for the new season to arrive. It’s coming early next year, but in the meantime, HBO has released a first-look trailer for it.

The trailer (or teaser if you prefer) includes footage from the fantasy series’ second season as well as comments by the series writers/executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Game Of Thrones returns with new episodes in April.

‘The Descent’ Director Neil Marshall to Direct ‘Game of Thrones’

by Matt Raub, Sep 13 2011 // 7:00 AM

As if we didn’t get enough amazingness in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, the folks at the network feel like they need to bring in a few surprises before they start shooting season two, as they have already announced a few special directors tasked with taking on the new episodes.

It looks like director Neil Marshall, who’s no stranger to armor and action from directing Doomsday, will be taking on an episode or two of season 2. From Deadline:

Feature director Neil Marshall (The Descent) is set to direct an episode from the second season of HBO’s fantasy seriesGame of Thrones. This marks the TV debut of Marshall, who a huge fan of the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s books.

Other directors tapped for Season 2 of Emmy-nominated Game of Thrones include top TV helmers Alan Taylor, who worked on the series’ freshman season, and David Nutter as well as Alik Sakharov and David Petrarca (Boardwalk Empire).

There is still no word on what stories from R.R. Martin’s Song of Fire & Ice will be adapted for this season, but you can certainly expect to see some of your favorite actors (mostly just Dinklage) return for the next batch of episodes.
