The Flickcast’s ‘On the Radar’

by Bob Starr, May 14 2010 // 4:00 PM

This week On the Radar bring a whole slew of new and interesting stuff. Let us know if we missed anything.

• The Flickcast’s own Elisabeth Rappe reports from the set of Jonah Hex (for another site but we don’t care, we love her).

• James Cameron says 3D will replace 2D soon. Yes, but when will substance replace style?

• True Blood gets a comic book. At least that’s better than a Lady Gaga comic. . . oh, wait.

• Heroes to get the axe? Isn’t it about time, really? The show has pretty much sucked sense Season One.

• Judge Dredd is returning to the big screen. He is the law, dammit!

• Some guys made a Mega Man movie. Why? Why the hell not?

• Hayden Christensen to help rip off The Da Vinci Code in The Genesis Code. But what about the younglings?

• Michael Bay says the Racist Robots will be banished from Transformers 3. On a related note, Michael Bay is a liar.

‘Fringe’ Renewed, ’24′ and ‘Heroes’ Fates Still Uncertain

by Chris Ullrich, Mar 8 2010 // 8:00 AM

As we previously reported, NBC has given new season order for 30 Rock, The Office and Community while, according to a recent interview with NBC network president Angela Bromstad, a fifth season of the beleaguered Heroes is still undetermined. In addition, the CW has ordered a 10th season for Smallville.

Now, Fox has officially renewed the J.J. Abrams sci-fi procedural Fringe for a third season. The show had perfoemed reasonably well but was not a ratings powerhouse. Still, it’s hard to believe it wouldn’t get renewed, especially given its J.J. Abrams connection and the fact that Lost is ending this season.

Two big reasons for Fox to keep it around for another year. Plus, any show with the great John Noble, the hot Anna Torv and the cool Leonard Nimoy should be on the air as long as it wants to be.

The fate of Jack Bauer and the CTU team of 24 is still up in the air due to falling ratings and the show’s considerable expense to produce. Fox president Kevin Reilly recently told The Live Feed:

“It’s a very tough call. It’s a huge part of our legacy, and there’s not a lot of shows that could do a 9 share against the Olympics. Tremendous sales asset for us still; a show we’re so very proud of creatively. So it’s not an easy call.”

Well, if our own Shannon Hood has anything to say about it, that call should be an easy one.

Four New Clips From The ‘Heroes’ Season Finale

by Matt Raub, Feb 4 2010 // 10:00 AM

NBC’s Heroes has had quite a run. Some of it was great, some of it was met with some negative response, but the producers have tried to stay true since the first episode, and now that could all be coming to an end.

There hasn’t been much news from the NBC camp whether Hereos will get a fifth season, but you can imagine that many fans won’t be behind the idea. This season has brought in many elements familiar to comic fans, and even got comic veteran Mark Verheiden to write a few episodes, so there’s still hope for more super powered action in the future. But will it be enough?

This Monday marks the finale of the fourth season, and looks to be quite an ending and could probably even serve as a fitting series finale if necessary. From NBC:

In the climactic season finale, everyone bands together in an effort to stop Samuel (Robert Knepper) from taking the lives of thousands. Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) joins forces with his most unexpected ally to save Emma (guest star Deanne Bray). Meanwhile, H.R.G.’s (Jack Coleman) life hangs in the balance as he and Claire (Hayden Panettiere) find themselves trapped underground with oxygen quickly running out. Elsewhere, Hiro (Masi Oka) starts to come to grips with the decisions he has made and is called into action to help stop a disaster.

Check out four new clips from the season finale after the jump, and be sure to catch Heroes next Monday at 9/8C on NBC.

by Joe Gillis, Feb 1 2010 // 4:00 PM

It’s Monday so that means new episodes of Chuck and Heroes tonight. For Chuck, it’s another great episode where he further demonstrates his prowess as a new spy. Also, he and Sarah have to think quickly to protect one of their assets.

On Heroes, we’re getting closer to the final confrontation and things are really heating up. On tonight’s show you’ll see Samuel continue to execute his plan now that he’s captured Noah. Also, we’ve got a couple behind-the-scenes clips for you as well as you get to know more about your favorite Heroes actors. Good times.

Check out all the videos, as always, after the jump. Be sure to watch full episodes of both shows starting tonight at 8/7C on NBC.

Go Behind the Scenes With ‘Heroes’

by Joe Gillis, Jan 28 2010 // 10:00 AM

heroes-noah-bennettRegardless if people are still watching and some people feel strongly that NBC’s Heroes has run its course, the network is still promoting the show and still airing it. With the season finale (and perhaps the end of the show entirely) weeks away, NBC has sent us some videos giving you a behind the scenes look and interviews with some of the cast.

In the videos, you can go on the set and get an inside look at the show. Plus, you can how the cast and crew work together in the filming of each episode and hear from stars Masi Oka and Greg Grunberg during some of their downtime on set.

Even if the show’s future may be incertain, it’s still nice to see that the cast is behind their show and willing to talk about it in order to keep fans interested. Normally, I would chalk this up to simple desire to see their job continue.

But in this case, they seem to actually be genuine and really love the show. Maybe we should give Heroes another chance?

Check out Heroes Monday nights at 9/8C on NBC.

This time around the highlights of Chuck include a clip from last night’s episode with guest stars Brandon Routh and Angie Harmon.

And get ready for next week’s episode with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kristin Kreuk in the preview clip. With Heroes, there’s a recap showcasing Slyar’s plan to regain his power with the help of Claire. Then, look ahead to next Monday’s episode as Noah tries to take down the Sullivan Brothers Carnival.

On The Tonight Show, Conan continued to explore his job options. He shared some of his offers with the audience and then they took a vote on the best one. Conan also had a gift for his supporters at the “I’m With Coco” rally. What a nice guy.

What You Missed: ‘Chuck’ and ‘Heroes’

by Joe Gillis, Jan 13 2010 // 8:00 AM

sylar-jailIt should come as no surprise that we love Chuck here at The Flickcast. We cover it quite extensively and bring you as much info about the show as we can. We are also still hanging in there for Heroes, even though the show sorta seems to be heading down the wrong path. Although, Greg Grunberg assures us that the show is not being canceled, so its got that going for it.

This week Chuck settled into its Monday slot and Heroes was all new as well. If you missed the episodes, we’ve got some video for you to help you keep up with what’s going on with your favorite reluctant spy and your used to be favorite people with special abilities.

If you saw the episodes already, well, just watch these recaps and previews for next week anyway. We would appreciate it and I’m sure NBC would as well — especially if it gets you excited to watch Chuck and Heroes next week. Check out all the video goodness after the jump. You can also watch full episodes at NBC’s website.

Greg Grunberg Says ‘Heroes’ Will Be Back

by Bob Starr, Jan 11 2010 // 1:00 PM

Greg Grunberg of HeroesListen up Heroes fans. Mind-reading cop Greg Grunberg is convinced Heroes will be back for another season. This is certainly great news for anyone still watching the show and concerned about the ratings. Keep in mind, this is his opinion, and does not necessarily reflect that of the network.

Grunberg made his renewal prediction while attending the People’s Choice awards, “We wrapped yesterday and the [final episode] is nowhere near a series finale…It is cliffhanger-y and exciting, but it is nowhere near an end to a series that people are so invested in. It does not tie everything up in a neat bow… I don’t have any doubt that the show will be back.”

It’s a bold statement to make. Just because the season finale is “…nowhere near a series finale…” does not guarantee the show will return next season.  Let me present Exhibit A: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That wasn’t a series finale either, and we all know what happened to it (here’s a hint, Fox canceled it).

That said,  I hope Heroes viewers do get their show back. Fortunately, Heroes has some other things going for it other than Grunberg’s gut instinct. The series has solid DVD sales and a strong international following. Further, Heroes was the top pirated TV series of 2009. Okay, that may not be the best endorsement given the legalities (or lack there of) involved.  Regardless, it is a strong indicator that people are watching the show.

At the end of the day I think as long as NBC can continue to sell ads alongside Heroes it should last. With shows like Dollhouse and the aforementioned Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles getting axed there’s less genre programming to watch. In that, Heroes may find a resurgence in viewers as similar options in programming continue to dwindle.

NBC’s ‘Heroes’ Is Most-Pirated Show of 2009

by Matt Raub, Jan 4 2010 // 2:00 PM

heroes-mohinder-peter-volume-4While most of the “best of 2009″ lists are petering off in the new year, there are still a few statistics still rolling in. One being the most-illegally-downloaded TV program of the year, which also happens to be one of the least popular. NBC’s Heroes has been on the bubble since last year, which is why the network only ordered half of a season for this year, and will be spreading the episodes out until Spring sweeps.

With that in mind, it would be considered that fans wouldn’t be rushing to their torrent sites or DVD stores to catch up on the super-powered drama, seeing as how they didn’t give it enough of a chance when it was on the air in the past. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s just what they’re doing.

“This year, the buzz is that the show may be on the verge of cancellation thanks to dwindling ratings (it averages about 6 million viewers a week, down from nearly 14 million when the show first premiered in 2006).

A ‘Heroes’ Thanksgiving

by Joe Gillis, Nov 23 2009 // 2:00 PM

heroes-poster-1In honor of the fast approaching Thanksgiving holiday, our pals at NBC have sent us some clips from tonight’s episode of Heroes with a Thanksgiving theme to them. Sure, we know this seems like blatant promotion for a show that people are saying is dead, and, well, it is. Still, many of us here at The Flickcast continue to watch Heroes (Chris, I’m talking to you) so this post is for them.

In these new clips, we’re treated to scenes of domestic and family bliss that only happen on a show about people with super powers and the other people who want to kill them once in a great while. Actually, it usually happens around the holidays. Go figure. Anyway, in the first clip, we on the set and hear the cast give some insights into what you can expect on tonight’s episode. They also talk about their own personal Thanksgiving dinners.

There’s also two sneak peeks at the episode. One in which the Bennet family tries to reunite for a friendly dinner, but ends up in a tense encounter when Noah’s girlfriend appears. Awkward. In the other clip, Nathan and Peter struggle to get answers out of their mother to explain the disappearance of Nathan’s body. Good luck with that.

Check out all three clips after the jump. Heroes airs tonight at 8/7C on NBC.
