In some casting news that seemed to slip under our radar yesterday, it looks like we can add yet another actor to the growing list of those with a part in The First Avenger: Captain America. Tommy Lee Jones has joined the cast as Super Soldier program supervisor Colonel Chester Phillips.
Jones will star in Captain America alongside Chris Evans as the star-spangled superhero, Sebastian Stan as his sidekick Bucky, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine and Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. In addition, it looks like the front runner to play the enticing Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class is now Alice Eve, late of the movie She’s Out of My League.
Previously, it seemed she may have ended up with the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America but, as we previously reported, that went to actress Haley Atwell. Instead, Eve will reportedly take on the Emma Frost character and join others already in the film including James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Benjamin Walker as Hank “Beast” McCoy. Matthew Vaughn is directing and co-writing the adaptation with Jane Goldman.
Captain America is currently slated for a July 22, 2011 release. X-Men: First Class is currently scheduled for a June 3rd, 2011 release. So, lots of good superhero action next Summer. Can’t wait.

While there has been plenty of buzz about casting and costuming for the upcoming Marvel Studios films Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, it’s nice to see that even the new logos inspire some excitement for the film.
Taken at this year’s International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Marvel Studios showed off two of the newest logos for the upcoming films. The first, for Captain America: The First Avenger, is pretty standard, but proves that we won’t be getting a new, updated style for Cap’s shield. The poster for Thor, however, shows off some of the mystic element that director Brannagh will be bringing to the project.
Thor, which will hit theaters first on May 6th of 2011, stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, alongside Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Kat Dennings. Two months later, Captain America will hit on July 11th, and stars Chris Evans as Cap, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull.
Check out the new posters after the jump, courtesy of our pals at ComicBookMovie.com and keep it here for all your up to date info on the new Marvel films.

When it comes to news about Captain America: The First Avenger, we’ve been pretty conservative. It’s hard to not run just about every scoop that passes by our desks, given how excited we are for this film, but considering how early we are in the production, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what is just hopeful speculation.
A few days ago, word first hit the web about the illustrious costume that Chris Evans will be donning as the titular character. It started off as a first-hand account of sketches that they got over at Joblo. Those descriptions turned into a few fan sketches, which then turned into professional renders of the costume from our pals over at AICN. Talk about a collaborative effort.
As you can see after the jump, the costume resembles more of the Ultimates Cap rather than the “wing-eared pirate boots” look that fans knew and loved for nearly a century. The suit looks to be more modern than anything else, which means we could still see the old wing ears in the first half of the film. Given the costumes that Marvel has churned out in other films, we’re quite pleased it’s not black leather.
Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, slated for release on July 11, 2011, is currently shooting in London with Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, and Hugo Weaving as Red Skull.

Though it was rumored months ago, Marvel Studios has officially announced that actor Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in The Matrix, among others) has been cast as the main antagonist, the Red Skull, in Joe Johnston’s upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger.
The news doesn’t come as much of a shock, even without the rumors. Weaving has made himself known as one of the top character actors to play a marketable villain since his work in The Matrix, and has even reprrised his badassery in Michael Bay’s Transformers films as Megatron. Also, director Johnston just finished and released The Wolfman for Universal, which cast Weaving as one of the main characters.
In the film, the character is said to be an updated version of the villain we know from the comics. In this incarnation, Johann Schmidt is drafted into the Third Reich and given the codename “The Red Skull.” In the comics, Schmidt is given the name due to an accident that caused his head to be…a red skull. Whether or not they will actually put Weaving in tons of makeup has yet to be announced.
The film also stars Sebastian Stan (Hot Tub Time Machine) as Bucky Barnes, Hayley Atwell (The Prisoner) as Peggy Carter, and Chris Evans as the titular Captain America. Captain America: The First Avenger is currently set to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.

While there’s plenty of down time between now and principal photography for Marvel’s upcoming Captain America film, this is still the more interesting process, where the studio starts to leak out casting news for the film.
We first heard that Chris Evans would be portraying the lead role of Steve Rogers/Captain America about a month ago, then news broke about a week later that Sebastian Stan will be playing Bucky Barnes. Now here we are, nearly one week later, and it’s now being reported that Marvel has found Cap’s squeeze in actress Hayley Atwell. From THR:
The character Atwell will play is named Peggy Carter, who in comics lore not only dated Captain America but was an agent helping the French Resistance. She later became the aunt of Sharon Carter, Captain America’s love in modern times.
Atwell is known among UK acting circles for her work in period movies such as “Brideshead Revisited” and “The Duchess.” The actress, repped by CAA and United Agents, appeared in AMC’s recent remake of “The Prisoner” and will be seen in the upcoming epic miniseries “The Pillars of the Earth.”
There is still plenty of casting news that we’re all waiting to hear, including a solid word on the rumor that Hugo Weaving would be playing the main villain in the film, The Red Skull. Also, it would be nice to hear how the film plans to fit into the rest of Marvel’s planned films such as Iron Man 2, Thor, and Joss Whedon’s Avengers.
Captain America begins shooting in England this summer, and is currently slated for a July 22, 2011 release date.

In the latest The First Avenger: Captain America news, HeatVision is reporting that Hugo Weaving (Matrix, Lord of the Rings) is Marvel Studio’s first choice to star as the film’s villain, Red Skull. In the comic books, Red Skull is Captain America’s archenemy, engaging in espionage and sabotage as Adolf Hitler’s right-hand man.
If Weaving is tapped, it would reunite the star with director Joe Johnston, whom he worked with in this year’s The Wolfman. In other casting news, the list of Captain America contenders appears to have thinned.
We recently reported that five actors were in the running. However, HeatVision and Deadline New York have both reported that John Krasinski is no longer in the race for the coveted role. According to the sites, Marvel is now considering Wilson Bethel (Generation Kill), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) and Garrett Hudlund (Tron Legacy), who have all either read, tested, or received test offers.
The First Avenger: Captain America is slated for a July 11, 2011 release.

Originally titled Guardians of the Ga’Hoole, Zack Snyder’s next directorial work, Legend of The Guardians has been picking up quite a lot of steam lately. This is the first thing that Snyder has worked on since he’s finally settled down after the epic task of adapting Alan Moore’s Watchmen last year.
Originally based on the young adult series by Kathryn Lasky, it’s basically an epic adventure of heroism and wonder, but with owls. The book series ended in November of 2008, topping it off at 15 books, and now Snyder and Warner Bros. are planning on taking that success to the world of film.
The film has a pretty huge cast list, as most big-budget CGI films do these days. Sam Neill, Hugo Weaving, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten, Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, and Helen Mirren round out a pretty well known list of players.
USA Today recently got their hands on the first images from the upcoming film, which is currently set for a September 24th release date. Check out the pics along with the very first trailer after the jump, and be sure to keep it here for any new info as we get closer to the release date of Legend of The Guardians.

It looks like today is Trailer Day, after Fox released the first teaser trailer for Avatar earlier. Now Universal has released the first trailer for their Wolf Man reboot starring Benicio Del Toro. The film, which finished it’s production a few months ago, looks to be a pretty fair reinterpretation of the original Universal Monster movie.
Company favorite Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer, Jurassic Park 3) took the helm for this film, which is the last project he is doing before taking the director’s seat over at Marvel Studios for The First Avenger: Captain America. The writing team consisted of David Self (Road to Perdition) and Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en).
The film also stars Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Anthony Hopkins, along with Benicio Del Toro, who is doing an American accent for the first time. Check out the brand new trailer, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, after the jump.
Universal’s The Wolf Man hits theaters February 12 of next year.
