Exclusive: The Voice of Dr. Venture, James Urbaniak, Talks Upcoming ‘Venture Bros.’ Special

by Matt Raub, Aug 25 2011 // 9:00 AM

A few weeks ago, we brought you our exclusive interview with both Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, the creators of The Venture Bros., in which they told us about their upcoming special, From The Ladle To The Grave—The Shallow Gravy Story.

The special is set to hit on Adult Swim this Sunday, and we’ve got one of the stars, Dr. Venture himself, James Urbaniak, to tell us a bit more. Before we go in-depth, here’s a breakdown of what you can expect in the special.

Follow the meteoric rise, the equally meteoric fall, and the decidedly un-meteor-like second coming of the most important band Hank Venture, Dermott Fictel and H.E.L.P.eR. robot have ever been in: Shallow Gravy.  If you’re hungry for rock, then open wide, because here comes a ladle of heavy metal fire and metaphoric meat drippings.

Urbaniak was able to give us more of a scoop on the special, as well as some details on what he’d like to see in the upcoming fifth season of the show. Take a look at the interview after the jump, catch the special this Sunday at Midnight on Adult Swim, and grab an official digital download of the songs featured in the special over at AdultSwim.com. Go Team Venture!

Exclusive Interview: Creators Doc Hammer & Jackson Publick Talk ‘Venture Bros’ Special

by Matt Raub, Aug 8 2011 // 9:00 AM

Animated programming for adults has been a battle writers and networks have been having for years. Luckily, with the birth of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, there is a new home for cartoons that kids just may not get.

With Adult Swim comes some amazing programming like Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman, and Venture Bros. Sadly, the former two have since fled the airwaves, but Venture Bros is still going strong.

The show has been on break for nearly a year, but on August 28th, our favorite family of adventuring misfits is returning for a special entitled From The Ladle To The Grave: The Story of Shallow Gravy.

The special is a faux documentary in the tone of Behind the Music in which Hank’s punk metal band Shallow Gravy and how its mediocre success has effected Brock and the rest of the family.

We got the chance to speak with creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer about the special and the upcoming next season of Venture Bros. Check out what they had to say and be sure to catch The Venture Bros. special on August 28th, only on Adult Swim.

TV RECAP: ‘The Venture Bros: The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-Glider’

by Nat Almirall, Sep 13 2010 // 1:00 PM

Welcome back, Venture Bros., you’ve been sorely missed during your 9-month absence (has it really been that long?). I’ve tried filling the void with other obscuria-laden shows (*cough* Rubicon *cough*) before lapsing into a befuddlement that left me wandering around in a zombie-like daze for several weeks. So, glad to have you back.

VB season 4.5 premiered with last night’s episode “The Diving Bell versus the Butter-glider,” (a reference to the book/movie The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, though the similarities pretty much end at the title) which throws us right in the middle of Sgt. Hatred, Hank, Dean, and Dr. Rusty Venture’s high-speed escape from the Monarch’s henchmen. And creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer prove they’ve lost nothing in the too-long interim by characteristically downplaying the action by having the viewer experience it from the PoV of the most passive character in the show, Dr. Venture—and a comatose Dr. Venture at that.

Check Out Three New Photos From This Season of ‘The Venture Bros.’

by Matt Raub, Sep 10 2010 // 3:00 PM

This Sunday marks an important day in TV. Maybe just to fans of Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros., but an important day nonetheless. They’re calling it season 4.5, because the last chunk of episodes we got only got us up to 8 back in December.

This season promises to bring us plenty more action and adventure, with new twists and turns for favorite twins, a new low for Dr. Venture, and yes, plenty more Brock Sampson. Yes, Mr. and Mrs. The Monarch will also be back and we may even get some closure from our fallen Henchman.

We’ve got some brand new pics for you to check out after the jump, featuring the consistent new looks of Hank and Dean, as well as Dr. V getting hooked up to a defribbulator. Most important news: Brock’s mullet is back!

Check out the images after the jump and be sure to catch “The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider”, airing on Adult Swim, Sunday the 12th at 11:30PM.

Things Get Exciting With A New Trailer For ‘Venture Bros.’ Season 4.5

by Matt Raub, Aug 5 2010 // 1:00 PM

One of the big hits at this year’s Comic-Con was, and has been for the past few years, Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. This year, creators Jackson Publick and James Urbaniak treated us to a few hints about the upcoming season. First, it won’t have a traditional season number. Think of it more like “Season 4.5″. Also, the finale will be a full hour, and won’t air until mid December. It’s title? “A Very Special Venture Bros. Season Finale Hour-Long Extravaganza.”

With that said, the very first trailer for the upcoming season has just hit the web, and it looks to be as promising as the two claimed it to be. From what we can see, we get some awesome parodies to fan favorites like M.A.S.K., Spider-Man, and yes, even genital formalwear.

Check out the full trailer after the jump, and be sure to join team Venture when season 4.5 starts up Sunday, September 12 at 11:30p ET/PT.

Clip From This Week’s Venture Bros. Episode ‘Self-Medication’

by Matt Raub, Nov 19 2009 // 8:00 AM

s640x480Over the past few weeks we’ve been able to bring you exclusive preview clips of upcoming episodes of The Venture Bros., which have shown off some of the truly great stories that the show’s creators, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, have brought to us this season.

This week’s episode is shrouded in a bit of mystery, but we were able to determine this awesome fact: both Robot Chicken’s Seth Green, Patton Oswalt, John Hodgman of the “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” Apple Ads lend their voices as guest stars. That information should be enough to keep you glued to your computer screen as you watch the preview clip after the jump.

This season alone, the show has had Kevin Conroy (THE voice of Batman), and Brendan Small (Metalocalypse) make an appearance. Check out the clip from “Self-Medication” after the jump and be sure to catch it on Adult Swim this Sunday at Midnight.

New Images from Season 4 of ‘Venture Bros.’

by Matt Raub, Sep 30 2009 // 3:30 PM

44-3We’re all pretty excited for the next season of Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. to start back up in November. The first trailer hit the web a little over a month ago, which showed us some pretty new and exciting images. Well, there’s more where that came from, as brand new images have surfaced giving us a few more things to glaze over until November.

Last we left off, the team got quite a shake as Brock Sampson quit as the Venture family’s body guard, a team of uncooked Venture brothers clones were sent out to the slaughter during a battle, and Henchman 21 was left holding the decapitated head of his best friend, Henchman 24.

From the images you can see after the jump, we get a look at Hank’s new denim-and-mullet look, Brock is still stewing around, Mr. and Mrs. The Monarch live together in post-nemesis-depression, and there’s even a new, rainbow-donning hero making some waves.

The Venture Bros returns to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in November for eight episodes, followed by another eight episode run starting in the summer of 2010.
