If you’re a fan of Stargate Universe and/or Merlin and have anxiously been awaiting the return of one or both of these shows, you’re in luck because tonight’s the night. Both shows come back to the U.S. airwaves with all new episodes this evening and to help build the excitement for their return, we’ve got previews from both shows to share with you today.
In the first clip, we’re back with the Stargate Universe team and find that things are still pretty much as bad a when we left. They are still on a runaway ship and still have trouble getting along with each other and anyone (or anything) they encounter. With Merlin, the young wizard is back to his old tricks as he tries to grow up and explore his emerging abilities all while attemtping to stear the course of the world towards the light. Not an easy job for a boy wizard — just ask Harry Potter.
Check out both clips of these shows after the jump. Stargate Universe airs tonight at 9/8C on Syfy with Merlin following at 10/9C.

Meanwhile, the channel that dubs itself as the leading network for the imagination announced nearly a dozen new series to start in the coming year. Shows that range from original scripted television to a new take on reality TV, each of the new programs should fit right into the “Imagine Greater” theme over at Syfy.

Of the mid season shows kicking off on NBC this year, one has seemed to stick out above the rest. Done in the vein of Smallville or Muppet Babies, Merlin is the episodic adventures of the great English wizard when he was only a teen, coming to terms with the mystical world he would one day rule.
The series was created by the same team that brought the witch drama Hex to the BBC a few years back. In fact, Merlin originally aired on the BBC back in September of 2008, and now NBC is bypassing BBC America to bring it straight to primetime network television. Merilin airs on NBC every Sunday night, with episode 9 hitting this weekend.
Check out a brand new clip from the series after the jump.

Our good friends at NBC have graciously dropped a bunch of new Merlin clips and cast interviews on us today. And of course, we’ve decided to share them with you. In case you’re not familiar with the show, its a drama that, according to NBC: “updates the story of the infamous sorcerer of Arthurian legend for a new audience. ”
In addition, the show takes place in “the mythical city of Camelot, in a time before history began; a fantastical realm of legendary beasts and mysterious people; a dangerous world in which magic has been banned by the ruthless tyrant, Uther Pendragon.”
The videos we’ve got to share today include a long preview of the show broken into two parts, a discussion of the real-life castles the cast gets to work in while filming the show and interviews with the cast themselves. Speaking of the cast, Merlin features Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony “Giles” Head as King Uther, Richard Wilson as Gaius, Katie McGrath as Morgana and Angel Coulby as Gwen.
Merlin premieres Sunday, June 21st 8/7c on NBC. Be sure to check out all the videos after the jump.

You know the old joke about what kinds of music they play at a certain bar? It goes something like this: “We play both kinds of music . . . Country and Western.” See, that’s funny because those are the same thing . . . never mind. Still, the intent of the joke applies to the worlds of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
As in, we like ‘em both here at The Flickcast. We also tend to watch a lot of TV. So, how do we combine those two things together and, more importantly, figure out which shows are worth watching and which aren’t? Fortunately, over at Sci-Fi Wire, they’ve done the hard work for us and compiled a list of every Sci-Fi and Fantasy show we could possibly watch this Summer.
Some of the shows they highlight in the article that we’re looking forward to are listed below. For the complete list, be sure to head over to Sci-Fi Wire.

I know, I miss Battlestar Galactica too. As I’ve said before, it was one of my favorite tv shows of all time and each Friday I feel a sense of loss due to the hole in my TiVo schedule where BSG used to be. I also miss the great characters and actors from the show like Edward James Olmos’ Adama, Katee Sackhoff’s Starbuck and James Callis’ Gaius Baltar. Well, if you miss Baltar like I do and wish he would return to tv, you will almost get your wish when the actor who played Baltar, James Callis, returns to the Sci-Fi Channel in a tv movie called Merlin and the Book of Beasts.
In this “Sci-Fi Original Movie” Callis plays the heroic Merlin who must fight to save a book which, if it feel into the wrong hands, could spell the end of mankind. . . or something like that. As a bonus, the movie actually takes place in Camelot, with all that entails, and the director, Warren P. Sonoda (director of other “classics” such as Ham and Cheese and 5 Girls) has compared his movie to Braveheart. Hey. its possible this movie is as good as Braveheart. It could happen. Okay, probably not.
Still, you gotta give Sonoda props for aiming high. At least he didn’t say his movie compared to something like In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, which we all know sucked big time. Good or bad, Merlin and the Book of Beasts, which also stars the attractive Laura Harris, hits Sci-Fi Channel this Saturday at 9 p.m. Until then, be sure and watch the trailer. I know you’ll find it as “magical” as I did.
