Congrats to all those who have made it past Comic-Con’s endless Hall H lines, sat through countless hours of the studio’s pleading with you to buy movie tickets, and made it back home in one, tired piece. What awaits you is a month filled with the studio’s last line of blockbuster attack ads until the holiday season.
Fear not, as the lines will be vastly shorter than the wait for Eclipse. Instead of emos and soccer moms in “Team Edward” T-shirts, you’ll find yourself beside teenage boys who watch Rocky V on their Evos while waiting for The Expendables.
Curiously, the generals of Universal and Lionsgate both decided to fire missiles into the 13-30 years old guys camp. With the troops dispersing, you should be able to deftly maneuver yourself to the safety of a comfy recliner at the multiplex.
My advice, do like Julia Roberts and Eat some buttery popcorn, Pray for a film worth the ticket price, and Love the below reviews. Let’s check out what’s in store for us in August.

There are a lot of things that can be said about the directing style of Robert Rodriguez since his start with El Mariachi back in 1992. His style may have changed drastically to accommodate to many films, but one thing is for sure, he has always stayed away from the cheap MTV-style fast cuts and hokey editing tricks. The newest red band trailer for Machete could mean that he’s thrown that rule out the window.
The trailer comes as a treat to those who made it out to Comic-Con this year, and now those who didn’t. It’s also a red band in every sense of the word. You get plenty of swearing, hyper violence, and nudity. Also? A few great lines from De Niro and Segal, which almost makes it all worth it.
The trailer is hyper-stylized, with plenty of stutter cuts and can make you a bit nauseous if you’re trying to follow what’s going on. We’ve said enough, though.
Check the trailer out for yourself, courtesy of the cats at IGN, after the jump, and catch Rodriguez’s Machete in theaters September 3rd.

With Robert Rodriguez’s Predators already unveiled to the world, it’s now time to turn our collective attention over to his next big film, Machete. The film takes itself as seriously as its title and follows Danny Trejo as the titular character, basically shooting and blowing stuff up for a good 90 minutes.
Not enough for you? Well, if there’s one thing Rodriguez has been known to do, it’s cast for the “every fan.” He did it in Planet Terror with Jeff Fahey and Michael Biehn, as well as in Shortz with James Spader.
Now, he’s pulling no punches with a huge cast including Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal, and even the recently incarcerated Lindsay Lohan.
Not only do we get each of those names in this 90 minute grindhouse film, but the studio has recently released a series of character posters with each of the cast members.
Check out the all of them in their glory after the jump, and be sure to catch Rodriguez’s Machete in theaters on September 3rd.

With Robert Rodriguez’s Predators hitting theaters nationwide today, you can expect most eyes to turn to his next project: the impressive looking adaptation of a spoof trailer Machete.
The film stars Rodriguez’s regular troupe including Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba and Machete himself Danny Trejo. Not enough for you? Well that barely scratches the surface of this massive cast. Joining in the fun, in no particular order, are Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal.
This action-comedy spoof features Trejo as the titular character, fighting off evil government figureheads and more. The newest trailer even gives us a little more of Michelle Rodriguez as the aptly named “Shé.”
Check out the trailer after the jump, and catch Machete in theaters on September 3rd.

Lots of people equate today with drinking Caronas, sitting outside, and celebrating a holiday nobody really understands anymore. This year, the holiday just got a little cooler, as a brand new “illegal” trailer for Machete hits the web.
When we first heard that Robert Rodriguez was going to extend his fake trailer that was attached to 2007′s Grind House, nobody really thought it would happen. Then we heard casting rumors that people like Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, and Steven Seagal were attached to the film, and our belief in the film’s existence became nothing more than a “what if” situation. Until now.
The first trailer for the film, which Danny Trejo declares is in celebration of Cinco de Mayo (and for the state of Arizona) just hit the web, and is pretty much like the original trailer, until you go “Holy crap, that is De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, and Steven Seagal??”
Check the trailer out after the jump, courtesy of AICN, and be sure to keep an eye out for all things Machete as we draw closer to it’s September 3rd release date.

With thousands of fans across the country getting to see 16 minutes of James Cameron’s Avatar in select theaters, the studio is still giving the rest of us a peak at this mysterious film. The first teaser trailer went live today, though in French, shows us the world that the Titanic director conjured up.
The film, starring Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation), Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, and Stephen Lang (Public Enemies) is a sci-fi adventure about a hero who helps save a civilization, and “embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery” along the way.
Cameron initially had the idea for this film 14 years ago, but the technology wasn’t available for him to produce it properly. Finally, when pre-production began, the project took 4 years to finish, and this winter, we’ll finally get to see it. Check out the trailer after the jump. 20th Century Fox’s Avatar hits IMAX and 3-D theaters December 18 of this year.

It’s interesting how much money is made that stemmed from jokes. 2006′s Snakes on a Plane generated $62 million dollars in the theater, not to mention merchandising and DVD sales, and the film all started with spoofed Photoshop image. It looks like the next Snakes will be Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, starring his cousin Danny Trejo.
The film started off as a mock trailer (which you can check out after the jump) for Rodriguez and Tarantino’s Grindhouse film back in 2007. There was talk about doing an entire film of spoof trailers, among many other pipe dreams. Rodriguez then mentioned that he wanted to turn the 2-minute trailer into a feature-length film, and here we are.
News just came in yesterday that the film has gotten it’s cast, and it looks to be pretty impressive, given that the film all started with a joke. Now signed on to do next year’s Machete alongside star Danny Trejo is Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jonah Hill, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey.
This almost seems like a joke itself, pulling in names like De Niro, Seagal, and Lohan in the same picture, but the story seems to be legit. Some of those name’s aren’t foreign to a Rodriguez pictures but Nash Bridges? The Lawnmower Man? Jonah Hill??

The first full day at San Diego’s Comic-Con featured revelations and first looks at Tron Legacy, New Moon, Alice in Wonderland and a little film called Avatar. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? James Cameron offered fans an impressive 24 minute 3-D screening of his forthcoming, highly-anticipated film, and by all accounts, especially SciFiWire’s, the material more than lives up to heavy expectations.
The footage clearly impressed the crowd, who made no secret of their appreciation of what they saw. Cameron seemed quite pleased by this and told the crowd, “Everybody always asks: So where’ve you been? Well, that’s where I’ve been. Pandora.”
Avatar’s preview centered around Jake (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic grunt who enlists for the military’s avatar program, which allows the personality of humans to be projected into clones of the Na’vi people, an indigenous race of alien creatures. Once on the surface of Pandora, Jake gets into trouble with native creatures, is reluctantly befriended by a female Na’vi native named Natiri (Zoe Saldana) and learns how to mindmeld and control a pterodactyl-like monster.
Cameron also revealed that 15 minutes of material will available for free at IMAX 3D and regular 3-D theaters across the globe on August 21.
Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana and Giovanni Ribisi and will be released on December 18, 2009.
