Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux Getting ‘Zoolander 2′ Ready

by Matt Raub, Feb 25 2010 // 12:00 PM

Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. seemed to strike gold when they had actor Justin Theroux co-write Tropic Thunder. The film got rave reviews from the critics and even took in a large chunk of change at the box office. To repay him, Downey decided to step up to the plate for Theroux by having him pen the script for the soon-to-be released Iron Man 2 for Paramount.

Now it seems that Stiller is taking interest in the young actor/writer/director by having him write and direct the sequel to 2001 comedy Zoolander, also with Paramount. From Deadline Hollywood:

I’ve learned that Ben and Justin are working on the script together, and Theroux is going to Fashion Week in Paris to “immerse himself on what is current in fashion”. ”It’s got momentum,” a studio source just told me. Everyone’s hoping Owen Wilson co-stars again but no deal is set. The villain likely will be Jonah Hill who’s in negotiations.

No word yet on who or what else they have planned for the sequel, but with names like Will Farrell, Billy Zane, Jon Voight, Milla Jovovich, David Duchovny, and dozens of others in the first film, you can expect to see some of Stiller’s new on-screen companions such as Jack Black, Tom Cruise, and Matthew McConaughey pop up in between glances of Blue Steel.

Review: ‘The Fourth Kind’

by Shannon Hood, Nov 6 2009 // 10:00 AM

milla-4th-kind

The Fourth Kind is a polarizing movie that is arriving in theaters after a clever but somewhat controversial promotional campaign. Whether you like the movie or not is largely going to depend on whether you buy into what you see on the screen. I didn’t, but I absolutely believe many people will. As actress Milla Jovovich (as herself) says in an intro to the movie: “What you believe is yours to decide.”

The unconventional film begins with Jovovich explaining there have been several people that have disappeared in Nome, Alaska, since the 60’s. She explains that she will be portraying Dr. Abigail Tyler, who has actual video footage of alien encounters. Seems that while she was placing some patients under hypnosis (for a sleep study) she uncovers some shocking truths about what has been happening to them at night, and why they are so freaked out. Conveniently, these sessions have been videotaped, which provides the “archival” footage in the film.

‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’ Starts Shooting in Canada

by Bob Starr, Oct 1 2009 // 7:15 AM

Milla JovovichBe prepared for some evil residents of Canada (See what I did there, with the “evil” and “residents” . . . never mind). The fight against the Umbrella Corporation continues as filming for Resident Evil: Afterlife starts shooting in Toronto, Ontario. Yes, your’s truly will only be an hour away from the awesomeness of zombies and hotness that is Milla Jovovich (The other Resident Evil films), Ali Larter (Heroes) and Wentworth Miller (Prison Break).

Hey, I’m man enough to admit Miller has eye candy appeal with the ladies. Speaking of Miller, the announcement from Screen Gems and Constantin Film confirmed he would be playing Chris Redfield, the brother of Jovovich’s character, Alice. Paul W.S. Anderson returns as director, producer, and writer of the film and provided a vague glimpse of what is to come, “Alice’s battle with The Umbrella Corporation isn’t finished. Last time we saw Alice, she let them know she was coming after them. It’s time to settle the score.”

Did I say “vague”?  Maybe I should have said really vague.  Anyway, I’m up for watching Alice “settle the score” so long as it involves an unnecessary amount of undead carnage and perhaps more mutant dogs.  Mutant dogs are fun. As an added bonus this time around Resident Evil: Afterlife will be shot in 3-D, because there’s nothing like a decapitated zombie head in your lap.  Resident Evil: Afterlife is set for a fall release in 2010.

Oh, and if I happen to cross paths with Milla while I’m in Toronto you’ll definitely read about it here first.

Wentworth Miller Getting (Resident) Evil?

by Bob Starr, Sep 25 2009 // 7:00 AM

Wentworth MillerAs the next installment of the Resident Evil series picks up steam some casting news has been revealed in a somewhat unofficial way. According to actor Boris Kodjoe, Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller will be appearing in Resident Evil: Afterlife. While nothing official has come out regarding his character there is speculation that he may play Leon Kennedy, a police officer from the video game itself who has yet to appear in any of the films.

Kodjoe also gave an idea of how his character will meet up with Milla Jovovich’s Alice in the new film, “She comes across an LA jail surrounded by [zombies]… and there’s a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We’re trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety.”

While nothing was said about Miller being part of that jail scene it seems the actor just can’t get away from plots that involve prisons. Kodjoe, also stated that Heroes’ Ali Larter will return to reprise her role as Claire Redfield from Resident Evil: Extinction. No release date has been set for Resident Evil: Afterlife but we’ll keep you posted.

‘Resident Evil 4′ On the Way?

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 2 2009 // 12:30 PM

resident-evil-extinctionI know what you’re thinking. At the end of Resident Evil: Extinction, what was arguable the weakest of the three films, you really wanted just one more go around for Alice and her nemesis, the evil Umbrella Corporation. Well, get ready because according to reports over at Shock Til You Drop, you might be getting just what you want. That is, if you can believe the rumors.

According to the site, a tipster has revealed that there will indeed be a fourth installment of the franchise and it even has a name: Resident Evil: Aftermath. The story, and again just speculation at this point but not that hard to believe, concerns all those clones of Alice revealed at the end of the third film and how they will take their final revenge on the Umbrella Corporation as they hide in their layer deep under Tokyo.

Lending more credence to this rumor is the fact that Paul W. S. Anderson revealed last year he was indeed writing a new film, that Capcom was involved and that everyone was “excited.” Plus, according to the site, a Sony insider said the studio is looking to get Resident Evil: Afterlife into theaters by September 17, 2010.

No word on if Anderson will direct or if franchise star Milla Jovovich will be back. Although, at least in the case of Jovovich, I think its pretty likely — especially in light of the video after the jump where she pretty much conforms it. Rumor or not, we’ll keep you posted on this as it develops.
