Clip From This Week’s Venture Bros. Episode ‘Self-Medication’

by Matt Raub, Nov 19 2009 // 8:00 AM

s640x480Over the past few weeks we’ve been able to bring you exclusive preview clips of upcoming episodes of The Venture Bros., which have shown off some of the truly great stories that the show’s creators, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick, have brought to us this season.

This week’s episode is shrouded in a bit of mystery, but we were able to determine this awesome fact: both Robot Chicken’s Seth Green, Patton Oswalt, John Hodgman of the “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” Apple Ads lend their voices as guest stars. That information should be enough to keep you glued to your computer screen as you watch the preview clip after the jump.

This season alone, the show has had Kevin Conroy (THE voice of Batman), and Brendan Small (Metalocalypse) make an appearance. Check out the clip from “Self-Medication” after the jump and be sure to catch it on Adult Swim this Sunday at Midnight.

Full Trailer for HBO’s ‘Bored to Death’

by Matt Raub, Sep 14 2009 // 11:15 AM

Picture 7We’ve been known to gush a bit about rising star Zach Galifianakis here at The Flickcast, and for good reasons. There is one new project that Zach is attached to in particular that seems to look better and better, the more we get to see of it.

Bored to Death is a brand new HBO comedy about a writer who decides to pick up a night job as a noir-style private detective. Starring Jason Schwartzman (very funny), Ted Danson (was funny once), Patton Oswalt (SUPER funny), and Galifianakis (superstar), the show looks to be HBO’s new breakout comedy hit.

Not many can recall a good noir spoof done in the past decade. The first two that come to mind, The Singing Detective and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, both star Robert Downy, Jr. Both films also pull off the “smoke and gun” look of the 1950′s crime drama, while still not taking themselves very seriously. Bored to Death seems to walk that same line, and walk it well.

Catch the full-length trailer after the jump. Bored to Death premieres on HBO Sunday, September 20th.

Patton Oswalt Joins ‘Caprica’

by Chris Ullrich, Aug 18 2009 // 7:00 AM

patton-oswalt-1According to The Hollywood Reporter, following his recent role in Dollhouse and the feature Big Fan, comedian Patton Oswalt is now joining the cast of Syfy’s upcoming drama series Caprica as a recurring character. According to the article, on the Battlestar Galactica prequel, Oswalt “will play Baxter Sarno, a popular Caprican comedian and talk show host on whose show Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) and Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcomson), ultimately appear.”

As this character was not in the original two hour pilot, obviously as the show is currently filming in Vancouver, the producers felt they needed some sort of recurring character like this to provide some overall context to events unfolding after the first Cylon has taken its first steps. Oswalt is a pretty good choice for this type of role where his humor and somewhat abrasive style can take center stage and provide that context and commentary. Should be interesting to see what he makes of the role.

Oswalt joins a cast which already includes the aforementioned Eric Stoltz and Paula Malcomson and also includes Esai Morales, Sasha Roiz, Polly Walker and the recently announced Luciana Carro. Caprica debuts on SyFy on January 22, 2010.

First Trailer of Patton Oswalt in ‘Big Fan’

by Matt Raub, Jul 13 2009 // 9:45 AM

big_fan_posterWhen you hear the name Patton Oswalt — the voice of the rat in Ratatouille — is the first word that comes to mind “compelling”? Well, that just might happen once you see the trailer and become aware of his new film Big Fan.

The film, written and directed by Robert Siegel, is about a mild-mannered parking garage attendant who’s life gets turned upside down after an altercation with his favorite player on the New York Giants. Oswalt plays the protagonist, who also happens to be a die hard fan of the team. The film looks to pull on a few of the same heartstrings that writer Siegel’s The Wrestler tugged on last year.

Those unaware of who Patton Oswalt is would recognize him from many outlets. He’s from TV’s King of Queens (which he also wrote for), made a recent appearance on Dollhouse, can be seen on Reno 911! quite a bit and is a founding member of The Comedians of Comedy alongside Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, and rising star Zach Galifianakis. Check out the first trailer for Big Fan, which opens in New York and Los Angeles in early September, after the jump.
