And Now the ‘Total Recall’ International Trailer

by Joe Gillis, May 4 2012 // 9:01 AM

Previously, we brought you a teaser for the reboot of Total Recall, another big movie vying for your hard earned dollar this Summer. Now, the Internets have graced us with the international trailer for the movie and, of course, we’re gonna share.

For those of you new to the “new” Total Recall, here’s the synopsis:

For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, even though he’s got a beautiful wife who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen, the leader of the free world.

As our own Jonathan Weilbaecher put it previously: “This new version of Total Recall is exactly how you handle a modern remake. You taken the source material, and give your creative team’s the chance to adapted it in their own way, in their own style.”

Let’s hope he’s right. Check out the trailer after the break. Look for Total Recall to hit theaters on August 3.

‘King of Kong’ Director Seth Gordon Taking On Reboot of ‘War Games’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 24 2011 // 11:30 AM

After setting up a new version of Robocop and Carrie, MGM’s reboot-o-rama continues with their plan to take the 1983 John Badam hacker thriller War Games and bring it to new audiences. With that in mind, the studio has tapped director Seth Gordon to develop the reboot and direct.

As you may know, Gordon first rose to prominence with the gaming documentary The King of Kong and most recently directed the upcoming comedy Horrible Bosses with Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Jamie Foxx.

In case you’re not familiar with War Games (although that’s unlikely), it starred Ally Sheedy as his girlfriend and Matthew Broderick as a computer hacker who finds a back door into a military computer system. Once inside, they start to play a nice game of “Global Thermonuclear War” which, unfortunately, isn’t a game to the computer. This sets off a series of events that if not stopped, could lead to WWIII.

Gordon will reportedly have a lot of leway in creating the reboot and with the level of sophistication of computer games, hardware and software these days, the results could be pretty interesting indeed. Gordon seems like a pretty good choice for this reboot.

Certainly better than the last time they tried to capatalize on War Games by making the abyssmal “sequel” War Games: The Dead Code. What a disaster that was. Let’s hope Gordon has better luck.

Warner Bros To Reboot ‘Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’ Minus Joss Whedon

by Chris Ullrich, Nov 23 2010 // 7:00 AM

We’ve been following this one for at least a year now when word first surfaced that a new Buffy: The Vampire Slayer movie was in the works. Now, it looks like the deal is finally going through, although the players have changed a bit, and we will be seeing a brand new big screen incarnation of the character. I’ll let the excitement of that one sink in.

Now for the disappointment: Joss Whedon will have nothing to do with the film. Yes, in the infinite wisdom of Warner Bros. and the new film’s producers, the man who created the character, the entire world in which she resides and guided the successful TV series through seven seasons will be left behind as this new project moves forward.

Instead, the new film will be scripted by newcomer Whit Anderson who’s sole writing credit on IMDB is a film that hasn’t even been produced yet. In other words, she’s done nothing to prove herself or her work. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I’m sure her take on the material was really compelling.

In case you can’t tell, I don’t really understand why anyone would think not having Whedon involved is a good idea. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.

In fact, Joss Whedon himself thinks these development are rather strange and has responded to the news in true Joss fashion. He sent the response to E! Entertainment via email. Click through to read the whole thing. . . it’s pretty funny.

E3 2010: ‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot Trailer

by John Carle, Jun 15 2010 // 7:00 AM

Over the weekend, Midway released a trailer for the Mortal Kombat reboot. Unfortunately it is not tied to the much darker and more violent minimovie that has been floating around online.  Rumors surrounding this mini had it pegged as the newest reboot to the series but writers of the third Mortal Kombat film have denied this.

As mentioned in our E3 preview, the rebooted Mortal Kombat will have a presence on the show floor. As you will see below, the game will feature a retro look over much improved graphics. It almost looks as though the events of Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3, as well as the characters, will be combined for Mortal Kombat.

Favorites Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero and Reptile have all returned while classics like Liu Kang, Scorpion and Sonya are all notably absent from the trailer. Old school levels like the Deadpool and the Pit II also make their return, hopefully with their respective fatalities as well. New to the series will be tag team fighting mode where four players enter Kombat together, switching back and forth and performing double team maneuvers. Midway has already boasted the game will feature the most brutal fatalities of any Mortal Kombat yet. With the preview of Kung Lao’s new fatality, we are inclined to agree.

Take a peek at the reboot trailer for Mortal Kombat after the jump and keep it here all week long for your up to date information on all things E3.

Paul Greengrass To Go On A ‘Fantastic Voyage’

by Chris Ullrich, Apr 1 2010 // 7:00 AM

It looks like Fox’s long in development reboot of the classic Sci-Fi film Fantastic Voyage may be closer to getting a director attached. According to THR, Paul Greengrass, late of the Matt Damon starrer Green Zone and United 93, is in talks to take on the project.

The pic, which is being produced by James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, tells the story of a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a minature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist who holds the key to stabilizing the shrinking process. Once inside the scientist, the team struggles to perform surgery to save the man’s life and also must battle to save themselves from his body’s defensises and a traitor in their midst.

The reboot will reportedly stick close to the original story and will, of course, up the ante with state of the art visual effects as well as eventual delivery in 3D. Color me surprised about that last development. Gotta say I’m a fan of Greengrass’s work so him taking on a reboot of Fantastic Voyage is not the worst thing that could happen.

No word yet on a start date or potential casting for the film (especially who’s taking on the roles made famous by Raquel Welch and Donald Pleasence) but when their is, we’ll bring it to you.

Fox & Regency Bringing Us ‘Daredevil’ Reboot

by Matt Raub, Feb 8 2010 // 1:00 PM

In an effort to keep things out of the hands of those who made the characters popular, major studios such as Sony, and now Regency and Fox, are rebooting their recent Marvel films in order to retain the rights so they don’t default back to Disney owned Marvel. Sony is doing so with the reboot of Spider-Man, while Regency and Fox have recently announced that they’re doing the same with Daredevil.

Originally made in 2003, and starring Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell, the film isn’t even a decade old and it’s getting a complete revamp. This time, the writer behind 2008′s The Day The Earth Stood Still, David Scarpa, will be penning a script, and the story will more than likely scrub the previous films’ continuity.

It’s unfortunate that studios resort to these childish ways. If the franchise eventually ends up in the hands of Marvel and Marvel Studios, this could mean great film cameos from some of our favorite heroes. A perfect example is what Favreau, Brannagh, and Joe Johnston are doing with the Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America films, and it’s all like a fanboy’s greatest dream.
