More Photos From ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Released

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 21 2011 // 5:00 PM

Zombies are awesome. Be they in movies, comics, novels, video games or TV shows, we just can’t get enough of those undead sons of bitches. Obviously, that means AMC’s The Waking Dead is one of our favorite shows, especially because of the zombies but also because it’s a damn fine program.

With AMC’s panel at Comic-Con set for tomorrow, it makes sense that the network is releasing some brand new images from the second season of the series to get fans even more excited. In fact, we’ve got 9 new ones for your viewing enjoinment.

OF the images we see the usually suspects in the usual kind of danger but we also see that time and constant threat of being eaten has taken a bit of a tole on our characters. They just seem a bit more haggard this time around.

Although, if you were constantly under the threat of being eaten alive you might look a bit haggard too. Think about it.

The only other question we have is when is Rick going to finally ditch the uniform? There’s not more society dude and you’re not a deputy anymore. Just let it go. . .

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October. Check out the rest of the photos after the jump.

New ‘Walking Dead’ Season 2 Teaser Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 18 2011 // 7:00 AM

One show that we’re pretty much universally in love with around The Flickcast offices is AMC’s The Walking Dead. After a hugely successful first season on the network, Frank Darabont’s adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic series promises to be even bigger and better when season two arrives.

Previously, we’ve had some bits of info about the second season including the first pic and the first teaser. Now, there’s a brand new teaser for the season which debuted during the season premiere of Breaking Bad Sunday night and we’ve got it for you right here.

In this new video we see our main man Rick Grimes in action as he deals with some unwanted attention from a couple of the undead. Needless to say he’s not a fan of them and takes care of business. Good to see him back in action.

Check out the teaser after the jump. The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October. Not. Soon. Enough.

First Teaser for ‘Walking Dead’ Season 2 Hits The Web

by Matt Raub, Jul 8 2011 // 8:00 AM

It feels like years since Robert Kirkman and Frank Darabont’s visionary zombie drama The Walking Dead left the air until season two. But that only means that we’re getting closer to the second season, with twice the zombies, and twice the zombie killing!!

In a recent interview with creator and series writer Robert Kirkman, he stated that there will be a much bigger story arch this season, as well as some new and familiar characters returning. One thing we learned from both the comic series and the AMC adaptation is that not a single person is safe, and anyone can die at any time.

With shooting currently underway in Atlanta, GA, there will be lots of footage for us to drool over in the coming weeks (possibly Comic-Con?). But in the meantime, we’ve got the very first teaser trailer for season 2, which has got some good old fashioned slow-motion zombie killing.

Check out the full teaser after the jump, and be sure to keep an eye out in the next few weeks as we bring you more content and scoops from the show, leading up to their season premiere this October on AMC.

Go Behind The Scenes Of ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 2 As Day 1 of Shooting Begins

by Matt Raub, Jun 22 2011 // 7:00 AM

Still reeling off of last year’s epic season finale, director Frank Darabont and his amazing cast and crew headed down to Atlanta, Georgia this week to begin shooting on the second season of AMC’s smash zombie apocalypse hit, The Walking Dead.

Even in the unbearable heatwave that Atlanta was going through, that didn’t stop the whole crew from pulling it together for the first day, and the folks at AMC managed to get all of it on camera for our enjoyment.

This season is expected to take drastic turns from the original books by Robert Kirkman, but will stay faithful to his vision, as Kirkman is working closely with Darabont on the story and character development of this full run of episodes.

So what are you waiting for? Check out the full behind-the-scenes feature after the jump and let’s hope this can hold us over until the season kicks off on AMC this October.

First Pic from ‘The Walking Dead’ Season Two Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 8 2011 // 12:30 PM

With anticipation for season two of AMC’s The Walking Dead growing each day, it’s nice to know the show is now back in production and filming. To help get fans even more excited for the next season, AMC has just released a first-look photo from the upcoming season.

The show is currently filming in Atlanta and it seems, at least from the following quote, that Frank Darabont could not be happier about it:

“At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew.”

Thanks Mr. Darabont, we’re pretty happy you guys are back to work too. Now, please try not to mess the show up. Okay?

Click through to check out the pic. The Walking Dead returns to AMC with all-new episodes later this year.

Reminder: Saturday Is Free Comic Book Day!

by Joe Gillis, May 6 2011 // 7:02 PM

Even though you probably already know, the first Saturday in May (that’s tomorrow or today, depending on when you read this) is a great day for comic book fans everywhere. Why? Well, its Free Comic Book Day of course!

What does that mean? It means that you can walk into any participating comic book store in your area, grab some free comics and then leave, go home and enjoy reading them. That’s it. No muss, no fuss.

Free as in free beer. And who doesn’t love free?

You can check out the list of free comic books for this year—including an origin special for Robert Kirkman’s Super Dinosaur, and then look for stores in your area that are participating. In addition to all the great free comics, its always nice to help out the comic shop owner a bit by actually buying a few things too.

You don’t have to by anything, though, its just a nice thing to do. Lots of stores put a bunch of stuff on sale too so that’s a bonus.

No matter what, be sure to get out there and have some fun. After all, fun is what comics are all about, right?

by Matt Raub, Jan 6 2011 // 10:30 AM

Lots of things were considered to be “big deals” in 210, but by far, the most important pop culture event has to be AMC’s first season of The Walking Dead. The show pulled in the highest ratings of a cable based show of all time, not to mention the fact that it was about zombies, and had a regularly unknown cast.

Now, everyone everywhere can relive the epic 6-episode season again and again, as Anchor Bay and Starz is releasing the season on Blu-Ray and DVD this March. It’s already been nominated for a Golden Globe, but that’s only the surface of the accolades you can expect to see for the series in the future. Here’s what you can expect to see on the discs.

John’s Last Minute Geek Holiday Gift Guide

by John Carle, Dec 17 2010 // 10:00 AM

Holiday shopping is hard. There is so much going on like catching up on all the hottest games that came out in November that sometimes you just don’t have time to go out, brave the malls and deal with lunatic people who would gladly trample each other to save seventeen cents on an outdated plasma TV. But, you still have to buy gifts for the loved ones in your family. And with each item, we have included a helpful link to purchase the item without ever having to leave the comfort of your home.

Hardware

It couldn’t be Christmas without a big and expensive gift for “Santa” to put under the tree. Now, while you most likely have one for yourself, your best gaming friend may not be as hardcore as you are and isn’t going through his XBox 360 dashboard using Minority Report type controls of the Kinect.

Like we talked about in our review, the Kinect is fun and a great addition to any XBox 360 household.  Just make sure that the person you are buying it for has enough room in their living space for it to work properly.

Check out more of my picks for best geeky holiday gift ideas after the jump!

Tough Times: Comics Sales Down Almost 6% In 2010

by Chris Ullrich, Dec 8 2010 // 12:15 PM

You may not have noticed but the country still seems to be in the midst of an economic “situation.” Things are not so great out there and as people tighten their belts entertainment purchases like comic books and graphic novels tend to decline. Given all that’s happening, it’s not much of a surprise that sales of comic books and graphic novels are down in 2010.

According to statistics from Diamond Distributors and compiled by ICv2, sales were off when compared with the first eleven months of 2009. Dollar sales of comics were down by 5.79% and graphic novels were down a bit less but still declined 4.35%. Total sales of comics and graphic novels are down 5.66%.

Even with sales down there was at least one bright spot. Sales of graphic novels, while down overall for the year, spiked upwards in November by 14.8% over 2009′s numbers. The reason? Robert Kirkman’s 13th volume of The Walking Dead was released.

In addition, the first volume also was a good seller in November and was in the top ten for overall sales. I guess it helps sales when you have a hugely popular TV series and people want to read all about it. Still, not so great news for the rest of the comics industry. Let’s hope things get better in 2011 — for all of us.

Over 6 Million Watch ‘Walking Dead’ Finale

by Matt Raub, Dec 7 2010 // 7:00 AM

There you have it. Sunday night’s finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead may have had us in a tight little ball of tension for an hour, but it was one of the highest rated cable programs in history. This can only mean great things for Frank Darabont, Robert Kirkman, and the whole team at AMC. Here’s the breakdown:

Six million viewers tuned in for the show’s sixth episode, including four million adults 18-49. That’s up 9% from last week — which was also a series high.

If you include the show’s 11 p.m. encore, the finale delivered a whopping 8.1 million viewers.

All told, Walking Dead has become, according to AMC, the most-watched basic cable series of all time in the young adult demo.

Who would’ve thought that zombies in Atlanta would be the one uniting factor for people across the country? Apparently AMC did, as they’re already excited for a new 14-episode season to pick back up in October of next year.

The Blu-Ray and DVD release is currently set to hit shelves on March 8th of next year, so be prepared.

TV RECAP: ‘The Walking Dead: TS-19′

by Shannon Hood, Dec 6 2010 // 11:00 AM

Well, this season of The Walking Dead certainly went out with a bang, didn’t it?  Sorry, I never met a bad pun I didn’t like. Once again, we don’t see many zombies, but there was tension running rampant throughout the entire episode as members of the group find themselves in one predicament after another.

I thought it was a stellar episode to cap off the season, and thankfully, the writers took a little mercy on us.  They didn’t leave us with a gigantic cliffhanger that we have to wait a whole year to resolve.

Well, except for what the heck did Dr. Jenner whisper in Rick’s ear?  Are you going to be obsessed as I am over the answer to that?

The episode, entitled “TS-19,” begins with a flashback of Shane back at the hospital.  It is revealed that he actually did make a valiant attempt to save Rick, but became overwhelmed by the military (who were indiscriminately shooting anyone they saw) and Rick’s medical fragility.

Rick was hooked up to lots of equipment, and Shane simply didn’t know what to do.  Add to that the walkers lurching about, and Shane did what any sane person would -he left (but not before placing a rudimentary barricade in front of Rick’s door).
