This week on The Flickcast Matt and Chris go a little off topic while discussing all kinds of new things. Some of these things include Deadpool directing rumors, new trailers for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and The Expendables, the intricacies of Christopher Nolan’s Inception and how people today have a serious case of self-entitlement.
They also made two more picks this week including Matt’s pick of the TV show Dream On and Chris’ pick of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2.
As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook and MySpace or via email.

There are a lot of things that can be said about the directing style of Robert Rodriguez since his start with El Mariachi back in 1992. His style may have changed drastically to accommodate to many films, but one thing is for sure, he has always stayed away from the cheap MTV-style fast cuts and hokey editing tricks. The newest red band trailer for Machete could mean that he’s thrown that rule out the window.
The trailer comes as a treat to those who made it out to Comic-Con this year, and now those who didn’t. It’s also a red band in every sense of the word. You get plenty of swearing, hyper violence, and nudity. Also? A few great lines from De Niro and Segal, which almost makes it all worth it.
The trailer is hyper-stylized, with plenty of stutter cuts and can make you a bit nauseous if you’re trying to follow what’s going on. We’ve said enough, though.
Check the trailer out for yourself, courtesy of the cats at IGN, after the jump, and catch Rodriguez’s Machete in theaters September 3rd.

With Robert Rodriguez’s Predators already unveiled to the world, it’s now time to turn our collective attention over to his next big film, Machete. The film takes itself as seriously as its title and follows Danny Trejo as the titular character, basically shooting and blowing stuff up for a good 90 minutes.
Not enough for you? Well, if there’s one thing Rodriguez has been known to do, it’s cast for the “every fan.” He did it in Planet Terror with Jeff Fahey and Michael Biehn, as well as in Shortz with James Spader.
Now, he’s pulling no punches with a huge cast including Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal, and even the recently incarcerated Lindsay Lohan.
Not only do we get each of those names in this 90 minute grindhouse film, but the studio has recently released a series of character posters with each of the cast members.
Check out the all of them in their glory after the jump, and be sure to catch Rodriguez’s Machete in theaters on September 3rd.

With Robert Rodriguez’s Predators hitting theaters nationwide today, you can expect most eyes to turn to his next project: the impressive looking adaptation of a spoof trailer Machete.
The film stars Rodriguez’s regular troupe including Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba and Machete himself Danny Trejo. Not enough for you? Well that barely scratches the surface of this massive cast. Joining in the fun, in no particular order, are Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal.
This action-comedy spoof features Trejo as the titular character, fighting off evil government figureheads and more. The newest trailer even gives us a little more of Michelle Rodriguez as the aptly named “Shé.”
Check out the trailer after the jump, and catch Machete in theaters on September 3rd.

While this trailer hit the web a few days ago, we’ve been sitting on it because frankly we didn’t think it was real. After a few days and nobody else seemingly raising an eyebrow about it, we’ve come to terms with the very tangible existence of Danny Trejo’s Vengeance.
Why did we think the trailer was a fake? A few reasons, actually. The film looks like it was shot with a low-rent DV camera, which doesn’t make much sense considering the talent involved. That talent? Names that range from Donal Logue to Jason Mewes to 50 Cent to pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page and UFC fighter Rashad Evans.
Also (and this could just be the trailer, and not the film itself), this looks like a blatant copy of another Grindhouse-styled revenge story starring Trejo, ala Robert Rodriguez’s Machete.
Even with that, the film is very much real. It comes from indie filmmaker Gil Medina who originally wrote the film in 2006 about Trejo being wrongfully accused of murdering his family only to get released and exact revenge as Jack’s Law. It seems like Medina wasn’t quite done with the story, as he’s doing it all over again in Vengeance.
Check out the trailer after the jump and you’ll get what we mean when we think the film is a bit ridiculous. Be sure to keep an eye out for Danny Trejo’s Vengeance when it hits theaters on November 11th, two whole months after Machete.

Lots of people equate today with drinking Caronas, sitting outside, and celebrating a holiday nobody really understands anymore. This year, the holiday just got a little cooler, as a brand new “illegal” trailer for Machete hits the web.
When we first heard that Robert Rodriguez was going to extend his fake trailer that was attached to 2007′s Grind House, nobody really thought it would happen. Then we heard casting rumors that people like Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, and Steven Seagal were attached to the film, and our belief in the film’s existence became nothing more than a “what if” situation. Until now.
The first trailer for the film, which Danny Trejo declares is in celebration of Cinco de Mayo (and for the state of Arizona) just hit the web, and is pretty much like the original trailer, until you go “Holy crap, that is De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, and Steven Seagal??”
Check the trailer out after the jump, courtesy of AICN, and be sure to keep an eye out for all things Machete as we draw closer to it’s September 3rd release date.

I have to admit that we were all pretty excited to hear about the Robert Rodriguez reboot of the Predator franchise known as Predators and directed by Nimrod Antal. Sure, the original Predator has a lot going for it, including such memorable Arnold Schwarzeneggar lines as “Get to the chopper!” and “You are one ugly motherf***er.” Still, with all that great stuff, a new movie with even more awesome predator action could be a good thing.
In the past we’ve brought you some cool info about this new Predators film including casting info and the first look at the trailer. Now, curtesy of the fine folks at CinemaBlend, we’ve got a new featurette to share with you today.
I admit I was a bit skeptical about Adrian Brody and his ability to be a convincing action hero. But after seeing the recent trailer and now this new video, I’ve changed my mind and think he will be able to pull it off. After all, he’s a gifted actor who should be able to play pretty much any role so fighting predators should be a walk in the park, er, jungle for him.
Judge for yourself and check out the featurette after the jump. Predators hits theaters on July 9th. What do you guys think? Does Brody make a convincing action star?

Last week during Austin’s South By Southwest film festival, producer and co-writer Robert Rodriguez unveiled the first footage from his upcoming film, Predators. We got to see lots of chatter from the cast, including stars Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne. Unfortunately, there was very little seen of the titular alien race.
Now, a brand new trailer has hit the web, this time giving us just the right amount of violence, Predators, and Danny Trejo that we could possibly ask for. The new film is set as a reboot/prequel to the original Predator franchise, which first gave geek-cred to stars like Schwarzenegger, Danny Glover, and Gary Busey.
Check out the official trailer after the jump, and be sure to catch Nimron Antal’s Predators, starring Topher Grace, Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, and Alice Braga, in theaters on July 7th.

Feeling a little bummed that you couldn’t make it to SXSW this year? Feeling even worse because the people that did get to go got a sneak peak at Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Predators film? Well, you can start feeling a little better because The Flickcast has you covered!
Fox was nice enough to post the premiere footage online for everyone to see and it looks pretty darn awesome. Directed by Nimród Antal, Predators follows the same kind of plot as the first film but with a fresh take on the subject matter:
“Official Plot Synopsis: Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.”
The synopsis sounds bad ass enough, but when you watch the clip you’ll certainly get that original Predator vibe (which is a good thing in this case). Predator 2 and subsequent films involving these intergalactic hunters really haven’t cut it (no pun intended) in my opinion. As such, it’s great to see Predators get back to the roots of this interesting character/creature.
Predators are set to invade movie theaters July 7, 2010. Click through to check out the sneak peak.

There’s a lot of interesting stuff on the radar this week. An Avatar alumni could face off against Conan, Modern Warfare developers bring a fight to Activision, and director Guy Ritchie may be breathing new life into the heroes of Camelot.
Fox finds its shadow for $1 million and David Slade may be the man
Fans of the comic book series The Shadow rejoice as it seems the reboot continues to move forward. While it was thought Sony and director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Army of Darkness) would bring a new version of the character to the big screen things have changed somewhat.
After Raimi began shopping the property around Fox decided to purchase the rights. Sadly, it sounds like Raimi may no longer direct, possibly replaced by David Slade. Slade directed the vampire film Thirty Days of Night which, unfortunately, felt just that long in the theater. Here’s hoping he can put a little more adrenaline into The Shadow.
How I Met your…Smurf?
Neil Patrick Harris will be venturing to the land of blue, three apples tall creatures in Smurfs: The Movie. The How I Met Your Mother star won’t be playing a Smurf though. As this film will be a mix of live action and animation, Harris will be playing the lead live action character. Too bad, I would have liked to know just which Smurf he’d play. ”Awesome” Smurf maybe? Let us know your picks in the comments.
‘Wolverine 2′ starts shooting next January
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pretty good, but it was missing one thing: ninjas! Hopefully that will be rectified in the sequel which is set to begin shooting next January. Delving into Wolvie’s Japanese mythos the script follows stories penned by two pretty big names:
“Based on a story cycle by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont, Wolverine’s adventures in martial arts will be a love story featuring a Japanese actress, I am told. ‘It’s a beautiful story,’ says a source, ‘and will be very different than the first film.’”
Okay, I’m not really sold on the “love story” angle but considering the number of women that went to see Wolverine (pretty much for mutant hunk, Hugh Jackman) at least this will be one you can take your girlfriends to.

Even with SXSW Film being just over a week away, more events are still being added to the already impressive program. This time around it was revealed today that Robert Rodriguez and Director Nimród Antal will present a “first look” at their upcoming movie Predators during the fest, which is a reboot of the film originally starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Said Rodriguez about the event: “My director Nimród Antal and I are excited to bring this first look at Predators to Austin’s SXSW Film Festival, an event that’s become vital to the filmmaking scene. Austin is my home and I’m proud that Predators was conceived and filmed here.”
In addition, it was also announced that the world premiere of Géla Babluani’s 13 would take place during SXSW as the previously announced Super Secret TBA screening. The event is part of the SX Fantastic midnight section.
The Predators “first look” will take place on Friday, March 12th at the Alamo Ritz Theater in Downtown Austin at 10:15pm and will also include a Q&A session after the event. The screening of 13 will take place at Midnight on Saturday, March 13 at the Alamo South Lamar Theater. We advise getting in line early for both of these events.
Also, be sure to check back here at The Flickcast for our extensive coverage of this years SXSW Fest.
For more info on these events, check out the full press release after the jump.
