Check Out New Screen Shots and Trailers for ‘Street Fighter X Tekken’

by John Carle, Jan 24 2012 // 7:30 AM

As we have discussed, we can’t wait for March 6th to hit. In addition to the plethora of other games coming that date, quite possibly the biggest fighting game franchise ever will be hitting that day as well with Street Fighter X Tekken. Ever since getting hands on with it, the Flickcast has been excited to get our hands on the final build for review. And now, Capcom has only wet our appetite even further.

Capcom has added Balrog, Juri and Vega to the Street Fighter side and Paul, Law and Xiaoyu to the Tekken team of playable characters. Along with that, they have released a bunch of screens, character art and gameplay footage which can all be seen below of these six awesome fighters. Part of the excitement for these additions is that these Street Fighter characters haven’t graced a new game since Street Fighter IV as all three didn’t make it into Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and this has been the first Tekken release since 2009.

In addition, check out the fifth story trailer, also below, that gives some insight in to exactly what is happening to bring these two worlds together. Much like the previous Marvel vs. Capcom 3 trailers, they don’t really make much sense and are an excuse for action, but damn if they don’t look pretty while confusing the hell out of the viewer.

Check out the new screens and trailers after the jump. Stay tuned to the Flickcast for more on Street Fighter X Tekken as it quickly approaches its March 6th release date for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

Coming in 2012: March 6th is Going To Be an Expensive Day

by John Carle, Jan 6 2012 // 12:00 PM

As we have talked out with our other recent Coming in 2012 articles, there are some big games coming out throughout the year. For the most part, these games look to be pretty spread out throughout the year… except for the collection of games announced for March 6th. Six, yes you read that right, SIX blockbuster titles will be releasing on March 6th, 2012 representing four different genres in the gaming industry.

First, fighting fans will finally get their hands on the much heralded and anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken. Back at NYCC, I had the opportunity to get hands on with the game and from what time I got with it, it has the potential to live up to the hype. It’s incredible to think about the dream matchups coming to Street Fighter X Tekken such as the wrestling heavyweight brawl expected to take place between Zangief and King or the martial artistry shown by both Ryu and Kazuya.

The Mass Effect trilogy comes to an epic conclusion with the release of Mass Effect 3. Shepard and his crew come back to earth with this action RPG along with the inclusion of a new multiplayer mode on top of the game’s signature dialogue tree and morality based decision making. Expect this game to consume the lives of those gamers who are finally just finishing their 250 romps from Skyrim.

Another game that will be getting a 3 after it is the Max Payne series. After a long hiatus, Max Payne 3 will be hitting store shelves. Years, both in game time and real life, have passed since the last time we saw Max in bullet time with his Noir dialogue and comic style storytelling.

Capcom to Expand Their Partnership With Zazzle Games

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Nov 22 2011 // 2:07 PM

If you don’t know what Zazzle is let me enlighten you. They are an awesome online store that offers officially licensed apparel and accessories that are often highly customizable. Last year Capcom joined forces with Zazzle to offer officially branded Capcom properties merchandise. Just in time for the holiday season, Capcom has announced that they are expanding their partnership with Zazzle to offer even more fantastic Capcom branded stuff.

The best part of the expanded Capcom store within Zazzle is the plethora of icons for each title that you can put on any number of cool items. Do you want an Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney coffee mug, a Ryu mouse pad, a Mega-Man iPad case? All are possible with a large variety of images to choose from.

“The Capcom shops at Zazzle.com now have more choices than ever before! With the addition of popular brands like Street Fighter®, Mega Man® and Ace Attorney®, fans now have even more options to customize their favorite Capcom® video game icons on a wide variety of products offered by Zazzle.”

More Details after the jump.

New Costumes Coming to ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3′

by John Carle, Feb 28 2011 // 1:30 PM

Way back in November, Capcom already announced the first batch of DLC coming for Marvel vs. Capcom 3.  Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath would be on their way to the roster. Last week, coinciding with the game’s actual release, Capcom announced another set of DLC. This time, much in the vein of Super Street Fighter IV, it is new costumes. Now we know what you are thinking. Why would you care about a different colored pair of jeans on Haggar or an alternate paint job on the Sentinel. Well there we would agree with you.

But this isn’t just any set of alternate costumes. Six characters will receive new attire. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Chris, Ryu and Dante. Instead of just being fresh coats of paint on existing templates, these are entirely new costumes being added to the game.

Captain America will be given what Marvel fans have affectionately coined the Captain Steve outfit. As the world’s new top cop, Steve Rogers Super Soldier doesn’t hide behind the mask anymore. Instead he has a more modern costume. Interestingly enough, Capcom chose to give him the classic Cap shield though instead of his current comic weapon, a light disk shield.

Toy Fair 2011 Show Floor Pics Gallery

by John Carle, Feb 15 2011 // 7:30 AM

It’s that time of year again when we all gather together to see our loved ones… that’s right. The Con season has begun. Whether it’s SXSW, Toy Fair, C2E2 or Comic Con in San Diego, if you are a reader (or writer) of the Flickcast, it’s likely you are going to end up at least one, if not all, of the Cons this season. Our first one up on the east coast is Toy Fair. Now while Toy Fair isn’t open to the general public, we made sure to get in and get a peek at some of the hottest new toys of the season.

We got to take a peek at the new models for the Walking Dead action figures alongside our friends from MTV Splashpage as the legendary Todd McFarlane himself explained how the zombie bodies will literally explode in the customer’s hands. We can’t wait to see the final versions in action.

There was a plethora of Green Lantern merchandise that we were unfortunately unable to snag pictures of as well as the brand new Thundercats line which is coming out soon. We were able to sneak a few pictures though of some of the Mezco Green Lantern products though.

The video game world was represented strong with Sonic The Hedgehog, Halo, Deus Ex, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy and Little Big Planet. Activision also announced to the world Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure for the Wii where toys and video games come together in a very interesting new way. Check back later this week for a full post including video of the product in action.

Check out all of our pics from Toy Fair below and keep checking back this week for more from the show (including an appearance on this week’s podcast discussing it with Matt and Chris)!

Akuma and Taskmaster Confirmed for ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3′

by John Carle, Jan 19 2011 // 9:00 AM

February 15th can’t get here fast enough. We know we have our preorders locked down for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds already but the announcements of more characters just further wets our appetites. Now confirmed to be a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 family are the returning Akuma and the newcomer the Taskmaster.

Not surprising, Akuma makes his return to Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The Street Fighter legend has proven himself a formidable foe for Ken and Ryu in games past and it only makes sense that he’d be coming back after the series’ long hiatus. Check out some images and video below of Akuma’s return to HD glory.

A new wildcard thrown into the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 mix comes in the form of Taskmaster. Largely regarded as a joke until recently, Taskmaster has been given a new life at Marvel. After being handpicked by Norman Osborn to lead his version of the Initiative, Taskmaster went on to receive his own miniseries which has been building him as a character to the Marvel world.

Check out some great screens and videos of the two new characters after the jump.

Check Out The Very First Gameplay Footage from ‘Mega Man Universe’

by John Carle, Sep 7 2010 // 11:00 AM

To say the first trailer for Mega Man Universe was a little confusing and vague would be an understatement.  Luckily after more than a month of silence, Capcom has finally released the first gameplay footage of the title which, now looking back, makes a lot more sense. Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man explains in the video below that players will get the chance to experience a Mega Man game using various incarnations and art styles for the character, as well as some Street Fighter characters as well.

Below, you will see Mega Man, Bad Box Art Mega Man and Rockman all in action through this 3D modeled 2D sidescroller. There is also a brief glimpse of Ryu in the character loading screen to check out as well. From the looks of things, Mega Man will be sticking to its sidescrolling routes in Mega Man Universe. With that, expect incredibly challenging levels to fight through and an ever changing powerset depending on the villains Mega Man will be squaring off against.

Keiji also mentions that more characters will be added in the future to the title so it is possible that skins resembling Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man X and other versions from his 20 year history may find their way into the title as well.

Take a peek at the trailer after the jump and make sure to let us know what you think.

Check Out A Brand New Trailer & Gameplay Footage For ‘Street Fighter X Tekken’

by John Carle, Aug 5 2010 // 7:00 AM

Think back to the mid-90s when fighting games were the dominant console gaming genre. Before Halo: Combat Evolved was handed down by the video game gods to convert the masses to the ways of the first person shooter, you couldn’t turn without bumping into a stack of newly released fighting games. But, out of all those games released, few stood the test of time. Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat. Tekken. Those were the ones that survived. Those are the ones we are still playing today. The question has always remained though, “What would happen if these fighting juggernauts ever collided?”

Well, back at San Diego Comic-Con, two thirds of our prayers have been answered as Capcom and Namco Bandai announced Street Fighter X Tekken. Coming to the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, this game will feature competitors from both the Street Fighter and Tekken franchise battling it out using the same engine that powered both Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4. The game will have Tag Team combat where players choose two characters to “deliver knockout assist attacks and special combos”.

So far, only four fighters have officially been placed in the game’s roster. Ryu and Chun-Li have both been featured representing the Street Fighter family while Tekken has shown Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams. Undoubtedly, the Street Fighters already have a gripe as they don’t have last names like the Tekken ones do.

SDCC 10: New Characters Announced for ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3’

by John Carle, Jul 21 2010 // 2:34 PM

Marvel is obviously going to have a huge presence at this year’s Comic Con with their panels scheduled to talk about both the Thor and Captain America movies on Saturday in addition to their other big comic announcements. Marvel will also have the video game focus of the show with two gigantic releases of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions from Activision and the much anticipated sequel ten years in the making of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds.

At the show, the public will be able to get a hands on preview with the latest build of the game featuring four newly released characters. Doctor Doom and the Super Skrull have been added to the Marvel roster while Capcom adds on the fan favorite Chun Li from the Street Fighter series and Trish from Devil May Cry. Of the four, both Doctor Doom and Chun Li are returning characters while the Super Skrull and Trish are brand new to the Capcom Vs. franchise.

UPDATE: We’ve got a brand new trailer to show off the new announced characters. Check it out after the jump!

Capcom Reveals 3DS ‘Resident Evil: Revalations’ Trailer and ‘Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition’ Screens

by John Carle, Jun 24 2010 // 7:00 AM

During E3, Nintendo touted that the Nintendo 3DS would play host an amazing assortment of high quality third party titles in addition to Nintendo produced titles. One of those publishers that was announced to be working on the 3DS is Capcom with two of their premiere franchises.

Below, take a peek at the first trailer for Resident Evil: Revalations. Though these cinematics will not reflect actual gameplay, it already has lit a fire under us for the chance to finally play a Resident Evil game without the need for a multi-thousand dollar PC configuration or those ridiculous glasses.

Last year’s Resident Evil 5 in stereoscopic 3D for PC was an impressive sight to behold, but unfortunately it was not an easy barrier of entry considering the powerful PC needed to run it smoothly. Now, Chris and Jill return to the series in handheld 3D glory. If the 3DS can pull off these cut scenes shown in the trailer in 3D, consider us impressed.

Street Fighter has been a staple of the video game world for more than a decade. This past year, the series was reinvigorated with the release of Street Fighter IV. Coming to both the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game was later ported successfully to a touch screen iPhone version. Now, seeing how the game could thrive in the handheld market, Capcom is bringing it to the 3DS with the tentatively titled Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition.

The screens below show some of the Street Fighter favorites like Ryu, Cammy and Guile taking it to each other, though sadly we can’t show it to you in its full 3D glory.

The Flickcast Five: Video Game Movies

by The Flickcast, May 27 2010 // 10:00 AM

Who doesn’t love lists? Starting this week, we’ll be bringing you a brand new regular feature in which many members of The Flickcast staff will contribute to The Flickcast Five, a list of five films, TV shows, characters, plots, or other pop culture related items that we love (or hate) the most.

This week, one of the bigger films in this year’s Summer Blockbuster season gets its national release, when Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time hits theaters. Many know that the film is based on the classic 1989 side-scrolling game. In keeping  with the cross-genre of gaming and films we bring you our very first Flickcast Five: Video Game Movies. This time, it’s ones we love.

There have been plenty of flops in the genre, from films like Super Mario Brothers with Bob Hoskins, to Double Dragon with Scott Wolf and Alyssa Milano. While not all of them are watchable, most of them are enjoyable, and some are even accurate to the source material that we’ve spent hours, if not days and weeks, trying to complete.

Warner Bros. Eyeing ‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot

by Sebastian Suchecki, Jan 26 2010 // 7:00 AM

vgm_mortalkombatTo many studios and producers in Hollywood, the word “reboot” seems to have magical properties. To them, the word means “take a failed property and wash away all the bad with a new film.” It doesn’t always end that way, when the “bad” in this instance is something as bad as Ang Lee’s Hulk, and even a Robert Downey Jr. cameo can’t wash that away.

Relentlessly, studios don’t seem to care and continue to “wash away” failed films with shiny new projects. With that in mind comes news that Warner Bros. is planning a reboot of the 1995 adaptation of Mortal Kombat. The original was certainly no Street Fighter, but it’s in no way a “classic” either.

The plan is to have newcomer Oren Uziel pen the script, with no set date on production. A reboot may not be a bad idea, considering the bad press that video game films got in the 90s, and how that seems to be changing lately with the Resident Evil and Tomb Raider films doing well financially.

The question now is “What ever happened to the third Mortal Kombat film that was set to begin production last September?” The film was originally rumored to be a reboot, with cartoon writer Sean Catherine Derek writing the script.

No word on whether that film fell apart or not, but with the recent news of Warner’s involvement, you can believe that the original project is dead.
