Check Out These Five New ‘Star Wars: Episode One’ 3D Re-Release One-Sheets

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jan 16 2012 // 4:30 PM

This past weekend we saw the release of Beauty and the Beast in 3D, the most recent in a string of classic films getting a 3D face lift.  The next big re-release is only a few weeks away with the first of the Star Wars 3D updates. Lucas is starting with Episode One, and is moving on through the franchise with a new re-release every year.

Even though the prequel trilogy lives in infamy among most film fans, the impending arrival of a Star Wars film on the big screen still holds some weight. In advance of the February launch a new set of five posters has hit the web, each with a wildy different design and most of them actually pretty cool.

It is gratifying that the posters excise the existence of Jar Jar Binks completely, although it would have been nice had Jake Lloyd received the same treatment. The upcoming 3D versions of these films represents the greatest perk of the 3D post conversion era we live in.

To have an opportunity to watch classic films on the big screen again in new and exciting ways is an exciting proposition. Hopefully lesser films like the prequel trilogy don’t ruin it before we get back to the original trilogy.

You can see the whole set of new posters after the jump.

Jar-Jar Binks In 3D? That’s Right, ‘Phantom Menace’ 3D Gets a Release Date

by Chris Ullrich, Mar 3 2011 // 1:00 PM

We’ve talked much over the last couple years here at the site and on The Flickcast podcast about how much we really don’t care for the first trilogy of films in the Star Wars saga. For those of us who thought of the original Star Wars (before it was known as Episode IV) as an inspiration for what we do, the second trilogy of prequel films, beginning with The Phantom Menace, were better left alone and unspoken of as if they didn’t even exist.

Sadly, one man in particular seems determined to keep reminding everyone that the prequel trilogy does exist and also seems determined to squeeze every penny he can from it. That man is, of course, George Lucas. His latest transgression? The Phantom Menace in 3D, coming to a theater near you on February 10, 2012.

Yes, you read that right. We can now look forward to the exploits of Jar-Jar Binks, the “acting” of young Jake Lloyd and the excitement of discovering that a once gifted storyteller has clearly lost his way, all in the marvelousness of 3D. This information comes to us via a press release from Lucasfilm.

My favorite part of the press release? This gem: “Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.” Excuse me while I throw up a little in my mouth.

Mr. Lucas, in the name of human decency, let it go.

70 Minute Fan Review of ‘The Phantom Menace’

by John Muth, Dec 22 2009 // 9:00 AM

Jar-Jar-Binks-Poster-Card-C10227315By now, the likelihood that you’ve seen, or at least heard about the mega-review/breakdown of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is pretty certain. However, for those lucky few that have yet to enjoy it, here is the first video (of seven) that presents a meandering, yet quite funny, synopsis on everything wrong with the first of the three Star Wars prequels.

The filmmaker, who on his YouTube profile page, lists himself as Mike from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, uses his production company’s name, Red Letter Media, to provide a number of sci-fi movie reviews, fan-edits and original content (check out the ‘Dudebros.’ episodes for a laugh).

The review of Episode I has made it’s way into just about every corner of the internet; and I’m sure before it received the backlash that all these meme’s get, enjoy it for the fun that it is. Also, it should be noted that the videos are probably best considered NSFW, and if you care, “spoiler-ific”.

Check out one of seven after the jump, with a list of links if you so choose to continue on.
