The First Game Play Footage Of The New Game ‘MechWarrior Online’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 14 2012 // 3:15 PM

There has been a wonderful recent trend of classic game franchises that were dormant being given new life with current generation updates. The most recent franchise to get a respectful update is the PC classic MechWarrior.

MechWarrior was a high water mark in PC gaming in the ’90s, offering incredible game play and even better graphics. Back in it’s heyday, no consoles could compete with the graphical power of the top tier PC games, and as such MechWarrior was very much a gamer household name.

Obviously things have changed, and the once proud franchise has almost all been forgotten. That is until the brand new MechWarrior Online releases later this year. The game boasts inedible graphics and real time giant robot physics (if there can be such a thing), meaning over-heating, terrain, weather, and gravity are all going to be factors you must contend with.

At the recently concluded Game Developers Conference, the first game play footage of the new game was revealed. It looks like a nostalgia sandwich wrapped in a shiny, next-gen wrapping. Just watching the game play footage harkins back to a bygone time in PC gaming. First-Person robot destruction still looks like a blast.

Check out the new footage after the jump.

‘Infinity Blade Dungeons’ Hacks And Slashes All Over The Place In Its First Teaser

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 8 2012 // 12:30 PM

Yesterday we told you a bit about ‘the new iPad’, Apple’s 2012 model of everyone’s favorite tablet. One of the games that was shown to showcase the pad’s amazing power was a prequel Infinity Blade.

The trailer for this gorgeous game is now online and it really sells the gaming potential of the new iPad. The original games had a redundancy built in where you had to do the same thing over and over again until you were powerful enough to win. That limited gameplay scope allowed the developers to make every little detail of the game look stunning.

Now that they have the processing power to compete with home consoles they look to have created a game that maintains the level of beauty, but expands on the gameplay. Infinity Blade Dungeons looks to be a hack and slash dungeon crawler that is better looking than any that came before it.

By branching out into a more immersive game play style, Epic Games is finally establishing this IP as the first must have gaming title on the App Store for hardcore gamers. Once that bridge is crossed, the already blurry lines between mobile and home gaming could be shattered forever.

Check out the teaser after the jump.

New ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ :60 Second Spot Promises Thrills And Chills

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 7 2012 // 3:00 PM

Don’t worry whedonites, The Avengers isn’t the only Joss Whedon related project coming out in 2012. The Cabin in the Woods, a film that Whedon produced, is heading to theaters in just over a month.

The long delayed project is finally going to see the light of day, and early word is that the film delivers big time. One of the main thrills of the movie is it’s twists and turns, so we here at The Flickcast have been careful not to be spoiled.

Thankfully Lionsgate just released a new, and concise trailer in advance of this week’s premiere at the SXSW festival. For those of you who are completely in the black about what this movie is, the official synopsis sums it up well:

Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen.

If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out.

The trailer hints that this film is more than your average lonely cabin horror film, but we are no doubt in for crazy twist on the classic horror set up.

Check out the new trailer after the jump.

The Best ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 2 Trailer Yet

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 6 2012 // 11:15 AM

We are one short month away from the beginning of the second season of Game Of Thrones. We have already let you know of not one, but two trailers for the next season. Those were nice enough, but this is newest trailer kills them all.

So much happened at the end of the last season that the show can’t help but get off to a running start April 1st. The next season is generally based on the second novel in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Clash of Kings, meaning that people new to the series should beware, spoilers lurk in the dark places of the internet.

One of the best parts of this new trailer is how it showcases a nigh perfect synergy between song and image. This trailer weaves clips of the upcoming season with the song ‘Seven Devils’ by Florence and the Machine, and if you didn’t even know better you might have thought it was a song written for the show, it works that well.

We here at  The Flickcast can’t wait until the premiere, so stay tuned should any more amazing bits of marketing find their way out in these last few agonizing weeks. We will be all over it.

Check out the new trailer after the jump.

Another New ‘ParaNorman’ Trailer Finally Sheds Light On The Story

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 2 2012 // 3:00 PM

There are three very high profile groups that are making stop-motion animated films these days. 2012 is a marquee year for the art form as all three are releasing high profile films.

Odds on favorite to be the best of the bunch is ParaNorman by the people who brought us the tremendous Coraline a few years ago. We have seen a couple teasers so far for this movie, but now we have a brand new full trailer to really sink our teeth into.

In case you are unaware of what ParaNorman is about, here is the synopsis:

In ParaNorman, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

This one is very high on our radar, and looks to be one of the best animated films of the year.

The movie is set to be released this august and you can check out the full trailer after the jump.

Check This Out: ‘Movie: The Movie’ Jimmy Kimmel’s Super Movie Trailer

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Feb 27 2012 // 1:30 PM

There is a few ways to make a successful trailer parody. You can play on the cliche’s of a genre, or the general practice of that genre’s trailers. You can cram in big name celebs in roles that mock their drive for Oscar bait or general shamelessness. Or in the case of Jimmy Kimmel’s newest piece of genius you can shove that all in and more.

The trailer for the woe-fully fictional Movie: The Movie features a cavalcade of stars and some sharp satire that should delight anyone and everyone.

Highlights of the piece include Matt Damon’s grapes, black Hitler falling to earth on a meteor and of course Dame Helen Mirren in a hover craft. There is tons to chew on in the extra long trailer and even though it clocks in at close to ten minutes you might be compelled to watch it more than once.

If there is any justice in the world some one will fund a feature length Robo-Lawyer film staring Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks, but with our luck all we are going to get is a baby Kevin James and baby Jason Bateman buddy comedy.

Take a look at the hilarity after the jump.

Latest Trailer For Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Is More Like An Extended Clip

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Feb 24 2012 // 12:45 PM

The titan of quality that is Pixar might have stubbed it’s toe last year with the release of the sub-par Cars 2, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are still riding a nearly two decade long winning streak. Creatively, their mandate of doing what isn’t expected has paid off in droves.

What makes Brave such an interesting next step for Pixar is the fact that it is the first film with a female lead who is for all intents and purposes a princess. That’s right, this is a classic Disney princess fairy tale, but done the Pixar way. Fans of Disney and Pixar have reason to be very excited at that prospect.

Disney has just released a third trailer for the film, but instead of just hyper cutting more footage to beautiful music, they opted for an extended scene that does a brilliant job of summing up the general conflict of the movie. You can tell immediately that this film has that Pixar charm we all know and love.

Check out the new trailer after the jump.

New Trailer For ‘American Reunion’ Is Heavy On The Nostalgia

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Feb 23 2012 // 11:15 AM

The American Pie franchise lives in two planes of existence. For some the movies represent a loud and raunchy franchise that has slipped from the main stream and lives in the proverbial cinematic dumpster. For the rest of you American Pie represents something much more, and those direct to DVD sequels don’t even register in your mind.

As far as the theatrical films are concerned, the franchise has been about growth and the slow onset of adulthood. We have been with Jim and his friends through some of his most important life milestones, and we as an audience have grown up with them.

So the impending release of American Reunion has a chance to really be something special for an entire generation of film fans, and thankfully this most recent trailer has amped the nostalgia levels all the way to eleven.

Of course reckless nostalgia can be a really bad thing, and that will be the one test the movie will have to pass to be any good. However, the high school reunion plot should provide an easy in for a fond looking back tone. So long as they do not over milk it, odds are we will be in for a pleasant treat this April.

Check out the new trailer after the jump.

Check This Out: The First Five Minutes Of ‘Haywire’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jan 10 2012 // 1:30 PM

In the next couple of weeks a very interesting new movie will be hitting theaters nationwide. What makes Haywire so intriguing is that it has a fantastic pedigree, yet it is being released in the January doldrums. Normally this would speak to the poor quality of the movie, but early word has been strong and it is hard to bet against Steven Soderbergh.

The movie is released in a couple weeks, but to help drum up more excitment the first five minutes of the movie have been released on Hulu. For those of you who are unaware of what the film is about, here is the synopsis:

Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.

Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious—and dangerous—trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

The first five minutes showcases some of the excellent fighting this film promises to deliver. If the hundred or so minutes that follow this scene are any where near as good, we can be looking at an early year gem.

You can also check out the video and the full trailer for the film after the jump.

Check This Out: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer Sweded

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jan 5 2012 // 3:00 PM

The Holiday Season is a great time for films, but on the cusp of one of the more anticipate years in cinema history, it is the trailers for 2012 films that might be the highlight. One film that fans are eagerly awaiting is Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, sequel to the instant classic that took the world by storm in 2008.

The first long form trailer was released a few weeks ago, and now some adventurous do-gooders have taken upon themselves to recreate the magic in their own “sweded” version of the trailer. Complete with action figure action shots, and an ingenious football stadium collapse scene made with paper cut outs.

The sweded trailer is great, but we implore you to check out their youtube channel. There are more sweded trailers for your viewing pleasure and a really interesting side-by-side that plays the sweded trailer next to the original. It is extremely interesting to see it play with the original right next to it, showing how accurate these guys get with their shot construction and timing.

There are also a couple of funny little jabs at the original hidden within the sweded version of the trailer which is part of why these can be so charming. Particularly, the chanting of “que pasa,” golden stuff. You can check out the sweded Dark Knight Rises Trailer after the jump.

First Teaser For ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Hits The Web

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Dec 21 2011 // 9:00 AM

There are a lot of big films coming out next year, but the granddaddy of them all has got to be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The last time Peter Jackson rolled out a Tolkien-based film he brought in over a billion dollars and the largest Oscar sweep in the history of the award. Suffice it to say it’s big news when the first footage hits the web.

The Hobbit is a prequel story to The Lord of the Rings and will be split into two films, each releasing over the next two years. In case you are unaware of what happens in the story, here is a synopsis:

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.”

Check out the full teaser after the jump.

‘Young Adult’ Gets A Vulgar Red Band Trailer

by Sebastian Suchecki, Nov 29 2011 // 9:00 AM

With Juno, Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman solidified themselves in cinematic history with Cody even winning an Oscar for best screenplay. So it makes sense the duo would try to strike gold again with a whole new gang of wacky characters and off-beat tone in their latest collaboration Young Adult.

That seems to be the plan for the movie, or at least what we can gather from this new red-band trailer. For those who need a bit more other than seeing the amazing cast of Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, and Patton Oswalt, here’s the synopsis:

Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Take a look at the new trailer after the jump in which Theron gets a bit nuts. Young Adult is set to hit theaters on December 9th.
