The CW Announces New Fall Schedule

by Chris Ullrich, May 20 2010 // 9:00 AM

Another network has joined in and has announced their schedule for the Fall. Like NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox, The CW has stepped up to let us all know what they have in store for next season.

In addition to returning shows such as Smallville, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and Supernatural, The CW is debuting two new shows in the Fall, Nikita and Hellcats. To help them find success, these new shows will be given coveted timeslots following the networks biggest hits.

Nikita, which features Maggie Q in an update to Luc Bessons action film La Femme Nikita, will air on Thursdays following The Vampire Diaries and Hellcats, which is produced by Smallville’s Tom Welling and follows a pre-law student turned cheerleader, will be on Wednesdays following America’s Next Top Model.

Smallville and Supernatural are also back together but now will air on Friday nights. The network labels its new Monday lineup as “the Left Coast/Right Coast pairing of 90210 and Gossip Girl.” The network also announced it will launch a new reality series called Plain Jane this summer.

Check out the full schedule after the jump.

Get A Sneak Peek At Some of Fox’s New Fall Shows

by Chris Ullrich, May 19 2010 // 3:00 PM

As we did with ABC’s new shows earlier today and NBC’s show’s yesterday, we’ve got a preview of some of the new Fox shows for you as well. This time around the shows are more drama heavy but also feature a comedy and an animated show.

First up is the new drama Lonestar which features Jon Voight in a show described as “a modern-day Dallas” and “a sophisticated and provocative drama set against the sprawling backdrop of big Texas oil.” Mmm, could be interesting.

Next up is the new cop show Ride-Along from Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield. This drama follows the exploits of a veteran cop (Jason Clarke of Brotherhood) doing whatever he can to keep the streets clean. It also stars Jennifer Beals.

Moving along to the next show we’ve got a preview for the new comedy Running Wild which features Wil Arnett as a rich guy who’s wife, played by Kerri Russell, tries to keep him in line and do some good along the way. It was created by Arrested Development’s Mitchell Hurwitz so it’s definitely got a comedy pedigree.

Finally, the last preview for today is the new animated show Bob’s Burgers from the guy who brought you Dr. Katz. It focuses on a struggling family-run burger joint that seems to violate a great deal of health codes. Of all of these shows I think I’m most interested in Ride-Along.

Shawn Ryan created one of the best cop shows of all time with The Shield and he knows this world and the people in it. I expect great things from Ride-Along. The others? I guess we’ll see.

Check out all the previews after the jump.

Get A Sneak Peek At Some of ABC’s New Shows

by Chris Ullrich, May 19 2010 // 10:00 AM

This week many of the networks have announced their new Fall schedules so now we know which of our favorite shows are coming back, which aren’t and what new ones are coming along to tray to capture our interest. ABC has several new shows coming out next Fall and we’ve got some previews for those new shows for you today.

First off is Body of Proof which features Dana Delany as a neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner whose expertise helps solve murder cases. It also features Jery Ryan, who you might remember from Star Trek: Voyager. Next up is Off the Map, the new medical drama from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes which features Caroline Dhavernas as the idealistic Dr. Lily Brenner working at an understaffed medical clinic in the South American jungle that needs to treat patients with whatever they have at hand.

Our next preview is for the new Matthew Perry comedy Mr. Sunshine which centers on Perry’s character Ben Donovan, the self-involved manager of a second-rate San Diego sports arena, who begins to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday. Finally, we’ve got a preview of the new cop drama Detroit 1-8-7. It stars Michael Imperioli and is described as a fictional documentary that follows Detroit homicide police.

So, a new comedy, a new cop show and a new medical show. Somehow, these all seem vaguely familiar. Curious. Check out all the previews after the jump. Look for these new shows debut later this year or, in the case of Mr. Sunshine, at midseason.

ABC Announces Fall Schedule

by Chris Ullrich, May 18 2010 // 12:15 PM

Like NBC and Fox yesterday, today ABC joins the group in announcing its schedule for the Fall. The network has kept several shows including V, Castle, Modern Family, Cougar Town and more plus has made room for seven new shows.

These new shows include superhero comedy No Ordinary Family, Detroit 187, The Whole Truth, Body of Proof, My Generation and Better Together. On Sundays, the network expects to use Desperate Housewives to launch Shonda Rhimes’ new medical drama Off the Map in midseason, just as they did with Grey’s Anatomy.

Also waiting until midseason are comedies Mr. Sunshine starring Matthew Perry and Happy Endings, as well as recently renewed returning drama V. It’s too bad we have to wait until November for more V but at least it made it back, which is a good thing.

Below is ABC’s fall schedule:

Fox Announces Fall Schedule

by Chris Ullrich, May 17 2010 // 3:00 PM

Much like NBC did today, the Fox network also had its very own upfront party and revealed the shows that will make up its new Fall schedule later this year. This fall, Fox will pair top drama House with new Texas oil soap Lonestar on Mondays.

The network will launch a comedy block on Tuesdays anchored by the returning Glee. Wednesdays will see Lie to Me and Hell’s Kitchen together. Thursdays will continue pretty much the same with Bones and Fringe. On Fridays (the traditional “death slot” for network shows), Fox plans to air Human Target, which will lead into its upcoming summer drama The Good Guys.

You may also notice that Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova, which tells the story of a family from the future that travels back in time to prehistoric earth, isn’t on the schedule. However, the network confirmed the show will start midseason along with comedies Bob’s Burgers and Mixed Signals.

Check out the full Fox lineup after the break.

‘Chuck’ and ‘V’ Renewed For Next Season, ‘FlashForward’ Canceled

by Chris Ullrich, May 14 2010 // 8:00 AM

Fans of NBC’s Chuck and ABC’s V it’s time to break out the champagne (or celebratory beverage of your choice). Why? Because both of these shows ave been renewed by their respective networks.

That’s right, both Chuck and V will be getting thirteen new episodes next season which will actually be season four for Chuck and season two for V. As a big fan of both shows I, for one, am thrilled with the news. I’ve been with Chuck since the beginning and was worried about the perpetual “on the bubble” show most of this season, just like last season when renewal was in question right up to the end.

That was the case with V as well, which took a very long hiatus after a short run and then came back to finish its season, which concludes next week. Fortunately, after a somewhat slow start, ratings for V have improved significantly, especially last week’s episode, while those for Chuck have remained steady but have not been spectacular.

Fortunately, Chuck has seemingly done well enough to get another go and now we know we get to enjoy both shows again next season. Great news indeed. Sadly, things are not so good for another freshmen show Flash Forward, which has seen its ratings steadily decline and has gone through a host of creative changes. The network has decided to pull the plug and it will not be coming back next year.

It’s Official: ‘Chuck’ Gets a Third Season

by Matt Raub, May 18 2009 // 9:19 AM

chuck-promoComing on the heels of the announcement that Dollhouse will get a second season, it looks like NBC is also feeling generous to their fans after a highly successful “Save Chuck” campaign at Subway franchises across the country, as they have renewed the goofball-spy series Chuck for a third season.

Though the show will return next fall, NBC had to make some budget concessions. Chuck‘s third season will now consist of 13 episodes rather than the 22 that season 2 got. Also, the show is expected to cut a few staff writers and possibly even a cast member (Not Jeffster!).

NBC will officially announce upfronts on Tuesday, May 19, but we already know that Chuck will join including Heroes, Southland, Law & Order: SVU, Friday Night Lights, and Parks & Recreation next season. Now that the 10pm time slot is taken up by Jay Leno’s new talk show, no word yet on a new home for Chuck, but if the amount of $5 footlongs purchased is any indicator, fans won’t stop watching, regardless of a new time slot.

Those who missed the epic cliffhanger in Season 2 can check it out here on HULU. Be sure to listen to this week’s episode of The Flickcast for more TV upfront news and which shows didn’t make the cut!
