Get an Inside Look at ‘X-Men: First Class’ With 3 New Character Trailers

by Matt Raub, May 6 2011 // 8:00 AM

Kudos to the marketing team for Fox’s upcoming X-Men franchise reboot and origin story X-Men:First Class. Since they missed getting a trailer up during this year’s Super Bowl, they’ve been making up for it with tons and tons of new trailers designed to entice us and get us ready for potentially one of the biggest superhero films of the Summer.

Sticking with that, there are three brand new character trailers out now for our enjoyment that show off three of Professor Xavier’s very first team of crime fighting mutants. In these clips, we get an inside look (as well as lots more footage) of Havok (Lucas Till), Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones).

These three trailers give us even more of a peek into the world that director Matthew Vaughn and his team of writers has created as an origin for this iconic team. And after seeing this world, we really think its one we want to visit soon.

Check out the three trailer after the jump. Get ready for X-Men: First Class to hit theaters on June 3rd.

New ‘Two & a Half Men’ Reboot, Final ‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer, & Jeff Bridges Are All ‘On the Radar’

by The Flickcast, Apr 29 2011 // 5:45 PM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• Chuck Lorre is developing a Sheen-less reboot of Two and a Half Men for CBS. Would this be considered #cheating?

• As if Lex Luthor didn’t have enough reason to hate him, Superman recently renounced his US citizenship in the comics so that DC can appeal to a more global audience.

• A brand new poster for Green Lantern has hit the web showing off way more Corps members than we can name. Check out the full-res image here.

• Zach Galifiniakis is out, but Jeff Bridges may be picking up the slack to play alongside Ryan Reynolds in the big-screen adaptation of R.I.P.D.

• Those of you hoping for an animated Ant-Man film with Pixar and Marvel Studios are sadly out of luck, as Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter says there are no plans for a team-up.

‘X-Men: First Class’ International Poster & Trailer Roundup

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Apr 26 2011 // 8:00 AM

X-Men: First Class is supposed to be a return to form for Fox’s mutant franchise. First, they brought in franchise hero Bryan Singer to shepard the project, then they hired up and coming director Matthew Vaughn to direct, both of whom were in line to helm X3 back when the franchise was golden. So there has been a conscious effort from the execs to tap into the memories of happier times.

That trend is continuing now that the marketing team has their hands on the movie. The two most recent international posters have been released and they share some stark similarities to some of the finer X-Men works of the last decade.

The first new poster shows most of our main characters walking towards the viewer from a dutch angle. This is a clear homage to the one of the most famous panels from Joss Whedon’s ‘Astonishing X-Men’ run. Also, the general design with all of the main characters on a single plane with the more important characters standing progressively more forward is extremely reminiscent of a popular X-Men 2 poster.

More analysis after the jump!

‘X-Men: First Class’ Fan Made Opening Credit Sequence Hits The Web

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Apr 6 2011 // 1:00 PM

I am conflicted. On one hand this fan opening credits sequence is visually stunning. The 60′s Saul Bass-ian style animation fits so well with the X-Men universe in the 60s. It is detailed, lovingly crafted and clever to boot.

On the other hand it features the single worst variation of the classic 90′s X-Men animated theme ever. I have heard hip-hop versions, death metal versions, even a trendy house music version and nothing compares to the nut kick to the ears that this video presents.

Not only is the song just horrible to listen to, it is also wrong for the tone and style of the visuals. The music needs to be fast, upbeat, jazzy and most of all flow and sync with the visuals. I suggest going to you tube and playing the normal version of the 90′s X-Theme while watching this sequence in mute.

And you should watch this sequence, it is awesome. From a strictly visual standpoint this opening sequence gets everything right. I have a metric ton of hope for this film, and fan produced projects like this only re-affirms my feelings. The 60s are the foundation for everything the X-Men have become, and to get that encapsulated in a film should be high watermark for the genre.

Check out Joe D’s excellent title sequence after the jump.

Russian ‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer Shows Us More Mutants

by Matt Raub, Mar 16 2011 // 11:30 AM

As blown away as we were when Fox released the very first trailer for X-Men: First Class about a month ago, we didn’t get to see as much as we wanted. Thankfully, we’re getting more and more as we get closer to the release date, and now in the form of a Russian trailer.

Sure, the dialogue and titles are in a backwards demon language, but we get a more in-depth look at Beast’s transformation, more young Magneto, and a few great shots of the Hellfire Club.

The film is set to take place long before the events of 2000′s X-Men, when both Professor Charles Xavier and Eric “Magneto” Lensherr meet for the first time and decide to help their fellow mutants by forming a school and a covert team.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, and a whole slew of young stars as the very first generation of the X-Men.

Check out the new trailer after the jump, and see X-Men: First Class in theaters on June 3rd.

New ‘X-Men: First Class’ Posters Remind Us of When the Franchise Was Good

by Matt Raub, Mar 1 2011 // 9:00 AM

Not to say that Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming prequel, X-Men: First Class won’t be a fine piece of cinema, but we’ve been burned before. As we all remember, the gigantic mess that was X-Men: The Last Stand was enough to leave a bad taste in the mouths of many fanboys across the globe.

Fox and Vaughn are hoping to erase that film from our minds, however, as they’re forcing us to remember when the film franchise was good and pure with moments of the original 2001 film.

In these new posters, we get a glimpse of the young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) with a perfectly placed reflection showing the men we remember from the film, namely Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart. A bit on the nose, but it works.

Check out the posters in full size after the jump and catch X-Men: First Class in theaters on June 3rd.

The Flickcast – Episode 88: Toy (Fair) Story

by Shannon Hood, Feb 28 2011 // 10:30 AM

Okay, here’s my official take on the Academy Award show this year. The entertainment world is abuzz today with reports of how horrible James Franco and Anne Hathaway were as hosts of the show. I think that they are being unfairly maligned. I found Hathaway charming, beautiful, and eager to please.

On the other hand, Franco seemed like he didn’t give a crap about the show or his performance. He was obviously stoned out of his mind, and I am not one to judge, but that is flat out disrespectful. Do that stuff on your own time, not when you are in front of a billion people. Anne Hathaway didn’t stand a chance when she was saddled with the stoner from hell. I genuinely felt bad for her.

Franco has had an amazing year. I used to dismiss him as a joke, until I saw his performance in 127 Hours. He was astounding. Shortly after I saw the film, I spoke at a public event, and swore that I would never sell him short again. Until now.

Franco has squandered all the good will he has earned in one catastrophic hosting gig. Back in the penalty box you go, Mr. Franco. This time it won’t be so easy to earn your way out. For a very funny take on Franco’s questionable frame of mind, check out this Gawker.com article.

To be fair, I truly didn’t feel that the two were given much to do. Outside of a great film montage at the beginning of the show, they were barely present. Perhaps that was a blessing. Still, Hathaway deserves props.

Franco’s quick little appearance in drag was bizarre, jarring and random. I felt like I was watching an SNL skit.

Have Questions About ‘X-Men: First Class’? Now’s Your Chance to Get Them Answered

by Chris Ullrich, Feb 22 2011 // 7:30 AM

With all the comic book movies coming out the last few years and with so many more to come, fans probably have questions about them. Fortunately, Fox has decided to do something about that and let fans ask questions directly to the cast and fillmakers of the upcoming X-Men: First Class.

How does it work? Well, read and and we’ll tell you. This new program, called “X-Perts”, starts March 1st and allows fans to submit their questions via Twitter and Facebook. Each week a new cast member or filmmaker will answer them on the “X-Perts” page.

Following the above guidelines, fans can submit questions two ways: Via a Tweet @XMenMovies or by posting on the wall at the film’s official Facebook Page. Now before you go and get too excited you can be sure they won’t be ansering any spoiler questions or anything like that. For those kinds of answers you’ll just have to wait for the movie itself to be released.

Speaking of that, X-Men: First Class comes to theaters on June 3rd.

‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer Debuting Today on Facebook

by Matt Raub, Feb 10 2011 // 7:30 AM

Were you as upset as the rest of us when we sat through all of the commercials on Super Bowl Sunday and didn’t get a single glimpse at Fox’s upcoming X-Men: First Class? Well good news! If you have Facebook, then Fox is making it up to you!

Starting later today, 20th Century Fox is rewarding anyone who like their X-Men Movies fan page over at Facebook.com/XMenMovies by giving them the first exclusive look at X-Men: First Class. That’s right, all you have to do is like them. Sounds simple, right?

For those of you who aren’t caught up to speed on the film itself, here’s a tidbit.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.  Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time.

Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon.  In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

X-Men: First Class is set to hit theaters on June 3rd.
