Shaun of the Dead started a new trend of horror comedies that was once lost after the mainstream success of the Ghostbusters franchise in the late 80s. From there, films like Zombieland and Fido took the ball and ran with it. It was only a matter of time before the formula was used on something other than the zombie genre.
Enter Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a new horror comedy in the works that puts the “teens killed by hillbillies in the woods” storyline on it’s head. The film shows what it’s like from the other end of the scale, and what if the hillbillies weren’t really all that evil.
Starring Firefly’s Alan Tudyk and Reaper’s Tyler Labine (what could become the American equivalent of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), the film could help the genre mash-up of Horror Comedy grow some real legs, after Zombieland helped put it on the map this summer.
Check out the first trailer for the film after the jump, and we’ll be sure to have more info on the film (such as a hard release date) as soon as it comes to us.

This week we have at least one high quality comic from every publisher. From Image this week, I’m sad to see Rick Remender’s The End League go, but like all good things they must come to end. This time with brilliant art by some guy named Eric Canete and NYC Mech‘s Andy MacDonald.
From DC Comics, I’m intrigued with the Great Ten spinoff series from Checkmate, with their spotlight in Final Crisis. This could make for an intriguing read.
From Marvel, we have the last issue of Captain America Rebirth in which we get an idea how Steve Rogers rejoins the universe. There is also the excellent new issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, which is about the most fun in a comic you can get. Also, check out the latest Deadpool book, this one is penned by Fred Van Lente, who I really liked the silent story he did in that Deadpool #900 issue. This one is Deadpool Team-Up with a descending order number starting out at #899. I’d really like to know what the reasoning behind that is, but whatever.
Additionally, there is the Spider-Man Short Halloween book featuring stories by Saturday Night Live stars, Seth Meyers and Bill Hader. I’m sure this will be nothing if not a ton of fun, so check that out as well.
Finally, one of my favorite noir writers Charlie Huston returns to comics with his new miniseries featuring Deathlok! I’m not particularly fond of the character, but then again I wasn’t fond of Moon Knight either until Huston relaunched it in awesome fashion.
As always, we here at The Flickcast care about what you read, so leave us a comment and let us know what you liked/didn’t like from this week’s comics. For a more complete list of what comes out this week, check out the one at Midtown Comics.

Our friends at Activision have sent us a cool behind the scenes video showing what it’s like to shoot a TV commercial for the game Band Hero, which hits stores today. It features artists such as Taylor Swift, Pete Wentz and Travis Barker, but don’t let that stop you from taking a look anyway.
I kid. I kid because I care. In all seriousness, I worked on a lot of commercials over the years and I can tell you that very few of them were ever this cool to shoot or, in the end, to watch. So, leave your preconceptions at the door and take a look at this video.
Who knows, you might just enjoy it. Plus, you’ll also get more of a taste of Band Hero, a game I just know you’re anxious to try — especially if you’re a fan of Guitar Hero. As I may have mentioned, the game hits stores today for Wii, DS, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2. Enjoy.

Once again we visit the post-apocalyptic wasteland of director John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer-winning best-seller The Road — in the form of a new trailer courtesy of Dimension Films. Previously, we brought you the first trailer for this movie, which showed more of an overview of what happened and sets up the journey a bit.
This one features more of the relationship between the father (Viggo Mortensen) and the son (Kodi Smitt McPhee) and delves a bit more into the perilous journey they are on after civilization is virtually wiped out. If you’re not familiar with the novel of the movie, this trailer should help you realize what kind of movie this is and, more importantly, why you should consider seeing it — regardless of its potentially disturbing and “downer” themes.
Be sure to check back as the film gets closer to release for a full review of The Road. In the meantime, take a look at this new trailer after the jump. The Road, directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit McPhee, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce, opens everywhere on November 25th.

Scott Wolf is an actor that’s bounced around on televised Drama for over a decade now. He’s been on some major shows like Party of Five, Everwood, and The Nine. He’s now taking his acting chops over to the new ABC series V, which starts up tonight.
Recently, we got the chance to chat with Wolf about the show, his character, journalist Chad Decker, the spoilers that people may know from seeing the original 80′s miniseries, and how a show like V will stack up against LOST (which happens to feature Wolf’s former on-screen brother Matthew Fox).
Check out our exclusive interview with Wolf after the jump. Also, be sure to take a look at some of the exclusive clips we have from tonight’s pilot, and catch the first episode of V on ABC tonight, November 3rd at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).

Far-gone are the days when networks held enough power and importance to have TV crossovers and intermixing story lines, much like the days when George Reeves would pop up on I Love Lucy or story lines interweave between Buffy and Angel. Fox seems to be the only network with interest in doing such stunts, as Family Guy’s Stewie popped up on an episode of Bones.
Well, it looks like Fox is doing it once again with an announcement for a Simpsons on-air scavenger hunt in celebrating 20 years of broadcasting TV’s favorite animated family. In a press release, the network announces that it will start on November 9th, and go for an entire week.
FOX is paying “homage” to 20 years of television’s favorite yellow family with the network’s first-ever on-air scavenger hunt. Beginning Monday, Nov. 9 and continuing through Friday, Nov. 13, fans can watch FOX each night to find SIMPSONS shout-outs, tributes and clues featured in primetime programming and on-air promos.
One lucky winner will receive the ultimate SIMPSONS prize package, including a trip for two to Los Angeles to attend a SIMPSONS table read with the Emmy Award-winning voice cast and producers, a home entertainment system, SIMPSONS DVDs and merchandise and tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood, home of The Simpsons Ride.
Anybody over the age of 13 can participate, and once they catch the shout-out, be sure to visit www.fox.com/scavengerhunt each night to test their knowledge and download some pretty cool Simpsons goodies. The contest officially starts after next week’s episode of Simpsons, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!

Fans of Dr. Horrible rejoice! If you have been laying in bed at night, unable to sleep at the prospect of one day hoping to hear Neil Patrick Harris belt out some more power chords as a devious super villain, then look no further than last week’s episode of Batman Brave and the Bold.
For those who don’t watch the show regularly, Brave and the Bold is a different, younger take on the DC animated universe. The show’s creators have managed to take elements from the Silver Age of comics, such as a young Green Arrow, and the Modern Age, such as the new Blue Beetle. The animation also borrows and references styles from the Bruce Timm animation to the undertone of the Adam West Batman series.
In the episode, Mayhem of the Music Meister, NPH guest stars as the villain Music Meister, who has the power of hypnosis through the sound of his voice. Much like in the musical episode of Buffy, the characters all succumb to song and dance due to the villain, which makes for an easy one-shot story.

Listen up all you disgruntled Southland fans, TNT is your new favorite network. The acclaimed police drama has risen from the ashes of cancellation and will be returning to television on a new network:
“TNT has picked up the critically acclaimed series “Southland,” closing a deal with Warner Bros. Television that will bring the drama from Emmy-winning producer John Wells (“ER,” “The West Wing”) to the network in January.
TNT has obtained exclusive rights to air all six episodes that have been shot for the second season, as well as the seven episodes from the series’ first season. “Southland” will air on TNT Tuesdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), beginning with the first episode of the series on Jan. 12.”
This is great news for the series especially given the somewhat surprising cancellation by NBC before the show even returned for a second season. Honestly, they brought back Heroes but not Southland? What gives?
Producer John Wells said: “We’re delighted that TNT has stepped forward to pick up ‘Southland.’ We are all extremely proud of the show.”

I have made no secret about the fact I think both Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were awful. The scripts were weak, or practically non-existent in the case of the sequel, and editing so bad it was difficult at times to see what was going. Case in point, director Michael Bay kept the fight scenes moving at rapid pace then would cut to a slow motion shot of Shau Lebouf shouting “Optimus!” or Megan Fox running away. Now, as much as I can appreciate Fox’s particular “assets” moving in slow-mo, it would have been better to slow down the scenes I was really interested in, robots fighting.
Be that as it may, I have defended Bay in the sense he knows how to appeal to the masses and can make a profitable film. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took in approximately $823 million dollars worldwide and that figure is set to grow even larger based on record setting DVD sales:
“Paramount Home Video sold 7.5 million DVD/Blu-ray copies of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in its first week of release including 1.2 million Blu-ray’s, making it the year’s highest selling HD title. To put that in perspective, “Twilight” was the years biggest selling title and has sold 8 million copies since March 21st.”
If my math is correct that’s about another $150 million in the bank (using an average DVD price of $20). Not a bad week at all to be Paramount or Michael Bay. Bravo, Mr. Bay!
I may not like your take on one of my favorite childhood toys but I can’t argue with your success. You’re like the McDonalds of filmmaking. The food may not necessarily be a healthy choice, but we all keep coming back for more.

Just after one of the first deleted scenes from the upcoming DVD release of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek last week, there is a brand new scene to keep us entertained until the November 17 release date. This one may not involve Klingons, but it most certainly has two much better things: Diora Baird and, well, Diora Baird as an Orion Slave girl.
In the scene, Chris Pine shows off Kirk’s racial insensitivity by confusing one Orion girl for another, proving that while he may be one of the most important people in Star Trek lore, he really isn’t that bright.
Check out the deleted scene after the jump, starring Pine and the lovely Diora Baird, who got to go through the hours-long makeup process, only to have one of her two scenes cut from the film entirely.
Star Trek hits DVD and Blu-Ray shelves on November 17th nationwide.

That Joss Whedon is a funny guy and one heck of a writer. His shows, including Firefly, Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse, are among the most favored by fans and, of course, we love his work here at The Flickcast. Now, with the Terminator franchise apparently up for sale (again) Whedon has made a modest proposal of his own to buy the entire thing in an open letter to those selling the franchise.
Among the items covered in this open letter are how much he offers for the franchise and what he would do with it if he got it. Its a funny and, in some cases, inspirational attempt at humor from a man who knows how to bring the funny.
Although, maybe he’s serious and thinks he would do a good job with the franchise? And, thinking about it a bit more myself, I think he would do a great job with Terminator also. Interesting thoughts indeed.
Take a look at the full text of the letter after the jump, courtesy of the fine folks at Whedonesque. Once you read it, give us your thoughts on the idea.
