Late yesterday Google released an update to its Gmail Android application for smartphones. The update brings with it several bug fixes, improvements, and feature additions.
The biggest improvements/changes include enhanced priority inbox support, an improved compose email feature, and in-line rely responses. With priority inbox support, users can now see importance markers in the main message list and rank messages right from their device. That is if you actually use priority inbox.
The new compose feature will allows users to switch between reply, reply all, and forward while in the compose screen as well as set the outgoing account on the fly if they have more than one Gmail account on their devices. In-line message replies work similarly to how they work in the traditional Gmail interface.
The new Gmail application, which carries the designation of version 2.3.2, is available in the Android Market now. So far the update seems to be working fine on our test HTC Incredible. We’ll let you know if something breaks.
The Tourist really wants to be the perfect Saturday night date movie. It is the kind of film that could be described entirely in clichéd one-liners, but that’s okay because it embraces this and wants to be entertaining nonetheless. Full of intrigue, romance, espionage and glamour, what it is lacking is nothing on the surface.
The problem is that there is nothing more to the film than its exterior. It is stylish, chic and not difficult to watch, but there really isn’t any more substance to it than an unsigned “Wish You Were Here” postcard of Venice.
Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, whose film The Lives of Others won the 2007 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, The Tourist should be in good hands. It was written by Donnersmarck, as well as two other very capable writers: Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) and Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park).
These are people that know how to make a good movie. Add stars like Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and something delicious should be boiling at the surface, instead it felt more like a bowl of microwaved condensed soup.
A loose remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer directed by Jérôme Salle, the film is a giant nod to the great romantic crime capers of the 50s and 60s, most obviously Charade and To Catch a Thief. It is about a tourist, Frank Tupelo (Johnny Depp), a math teacher from Wisconsin who meets a striking, mysterious woman called Elise, played by Angelina Jolie.
You know we’re getting towards the end of the year because of two main reasons: There’s an upcoming Family Guy Star Wars special and an upcoming Robot Chicken Star Wars special. Seth McFarlane’s Family Guy special is making its way to DVD and digital download on the 21st. But before that, we’re getting Seth Green’s third installment of the Robot Chicken: Star Wars specials.

In the hour-long special, four very different characters–Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Gary the Stormtrooper–reveal untold stories that weave and interconnect throughout all six Star Wars films. Robot Chicken: Star wars Episode III also features Zac Efron as Anakin Skywalker, Anthony Daniels (from the original Star Wars films) as C3PO, Mike Henry (The Cleveland Show) and Donald Glover (Community), all making their first appearance in RCSW.
Also returning from the previous specials are Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks along with returning favorites Green, Senreich, Breckin Meyer, Seth MacFarlane, Dan Milano, Abe Benrubi, Donald Faison, Rachael Leigh Cook, Adrianne Pallicki, Eden Espinosa, Hugh Davidson, Bob Bergen, Keith Ferguson, Tom Kane and Zeb Wells.

We’ve had some pics, some footage, a video game and now with the Marvel/Disney marketing machine ramping up even more, we’ve got the first poster for the upcoming Thor film to share with you today. The film is, as you probably know, being directed by Kenneth Branagh and features Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder.
With this new poster we get a good look at Hemsworth as Thor as well as something I’m sure fans are thrilled about: Thor’s mighty hammer Mjohnir. Gotta say I like the look of this poster and Hemsworth strikes an impressive pose as the title character. Kudos to the marketing department for this one. It’s simple yet gets the job done.
As the items have arrived giving us a better look at the film and what’s going to be in it we’ve become more excited about it. At first, I’ll admit, we were a bit skeptical but each successive bit of information has made the film look better and better.

We like trailers here at The Flickcast. We especially like them for movies featuring robot that fight. No, I’m not talking about yet another Transformers sequel.
Instead, DreamWorks has released a new trailer for Real Steel, an upcoming film directed by Shawn Levy and starring Hugh Jackman. Yes, it does feature robots fighting only these robots weigh 2000 pounds and look human.
It’s not all about the robots, however, as it centers on Hugh Jackman’s struggling fight promoter who thinks he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. Along the way he also develops a relationship with his estranged son.
Real Steel will hit theaters in October of next year. Until then, check out the first trailer after the jump.
There has been plenty of heat on the MPAA as of late. Cult horror director Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) recently had trouble with the organization giving his sequel to Hatchet an NC-17 rating, which is the financial kiss of death at the box office. They did the same with an upcoming Weinstein film starring Ryan Gosling titled Blue Valentine.
Upon receiving the NC-17 rating, The Weinstein Company filed litigation against the organization for an appeal to get their film down to an R-rating. This was a classic tale of Davey (a small studio) going up against the MPAA’s Goliath. The good news? They won.
News has just been released that TWC has won the appeal against the MPAA and the rating of Blue Valentine will get modified back down to a standard R. This is pretty historic for the industry, considering that nobody ever goes up against the MPAA and lives to tell the tale. It looks like the brothers Weinstein are now the exception to that rule.
This could very well change the face of how MPAA does things, as indie directors like Adam Green now have a case against the way the organization runs things. Consider this an official turning of the tide.

We are fans of the UFC and the console releases of UFC Undisputedas well (with UFC Undisputed 2010 for XBox 360 receiving an 8.0 score). So, when we heard the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch would be getting its own UFC Undisputed2010 we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it.
Gameplay:
This mobile game obviously has to play much simpler than the console version both in terms of power and control scheme. Without formal buttons, players must navigate their fighter throughout the octogon on a 2D plane reminiscient of Street Fighter 4 more than other UFC titles. Fighting consists of various finger swipes over a punch, kick or synch icon.
Different presses or swipes result in different moves and as far as we could tell with our hands on the game, every competitor on UFC 2010′s roster players and moves in the ring exactly like each other, with the only exception being how wrestlers perform takedowns differently with body slams.
The melee combat is fairly basic but does not encourage button mashing. Players who do so will quickly find their stamina drained and on the receiving end of hammer punches to their faces.
If you’re like the rest of the nerds around The Flickcast office, then you took your 30 minute lunchbreak on Tuesday to run out and grab Inception on Blu-Ray so you can relive all of Chris Nolan’s dreamworld madness. Of course, with the instant (and legal) accessibility of the film, come the bad ass fan edits.
We haven’t seen any cool Inception lightsaber fan edits like we have for Princess Bride, but there is one video that’s been floating around the Internets that needs to be shared as much as possible. Youtube user Weikang had the great idea (and was the first) to edit all of the dream worlds side by side at once, showing how they all played together.
Mind you, some worlds run faster than others because they are dreams inside of dreams (doesn’t sound as cool when you explain it, sorry Nolan). Check out the cool fan video after the jump.
Expect to see plenty more Inception fan films hit the web as more and more folks re-watch the psychological action flick over and over again. At least we hope so.
Today seems to be a day for crazy short teasers for some great franchises. First we got the misleading teaser for Bay’s new Transformers: Dark of the Moon and now we’re getting a brand new teaser for the upcoming sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum titled Arkham City.
This game promises to have more of an “open world” element, as it opens up to all of Gotham City, rather than the confines of Arkham Asylum like the last game. Here’s the rundown:
Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.
Of course we know that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are returning to voice Bats and The Joker. But there are tons of new villains and heroes that this game will feature, so we may get some great new voice actors to join in, adding to an already impressive cast list from Asylum.
The game has already been pushed from January to next fall, which could be either a good thing or bad, depending on how you look at it. In the meantime, click through to check out the all-new teaser for the game and set your inner geek to Stun.
If you stuck with NBC’s Heroes until the bitter end and afterward said “The only thing this show was missing was costumes” then you are in luck. NBC has heard you and decided to bless fanboys and fangirls everywhere with another hour-long superhero drama with new characters called The Cape.
With the exception of the lead, ER’s David Lyons, the cast is pretty nerd-heavy. Summer Glau, Keith David, Vinnie Jones, and Martin Klebba (Star Trek) all fill out what could potentially be an interesting group of misfit superheroes (and super villain) as they take on thugs and gangsters. Did we mention there’s a weekly “Father detached from his family” storyline? Because there is.
While we still have some reservations about the show, NBC can’t wait to get started. They’ve even got a brand new sneak peek to get everyone pumped. Check it out after the jump, and join The Cape every Sunday starting on January 9th at 9/8pm Central.
Michael Bay loves teaser trickery when it comes to his epic Transformers film franchise. We all remember the first teaser that started it all, which gave many of us hope for what turned out to be a pretty lackluster franchise. Bay is hoping to change all of our minds with his newest film in the series, Dark of the Moon.
Here’s the official, yet somehow unreleased synopsis.
The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s ‘Transformers Revenge of the Fallen’. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There’s new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime ‘Transformers’ character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.
All of our favorites are back from the first two films, including Shia, Duhamel, and Turturro, with new faces like John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, and Patrick Dempsey joining the fight this time.

Last week, Microsoft Games Studios revealed their big holiday push for XBox Live Arcade with three unique, quirky titles. The three games, World of Keflings (December 22nd), Raskulls (December 29th) and ilomilo (January 5th) will not only be coming out in the heart of the holiday season, but they will all be tied together, a first for the downloadable platform.
As you will see in the trailer below, all the titles will feature cameos from characters from the other games. In ilomilo, characters can be dressed up as Keflings while the Raskulls can be invited to live in the Keflings world.
