Possibly one of the most critically praised films of the year, and potentially a heavy hitter at this year’s Academy Awards, The King’s Speech has already made plenty of headlines as of late. Another potential nail in the coffin of traditional publishing was announced today as News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch revealed his company’s newest publication The Daily at a news conference this morning. This iPad only newspaper has been in the works for some time and today marks the first time consumers can actually get a look at it.
Here’s what you need to know: The Daily will be available only on the iPad to start and new issues will be available 365 days a year. In addition, The Daily will be interactive and feature 360-degree photos and original video content. Some articles will even be read aloud within the app.
The Daily app is available in the Apple App store now. It will cost you $0.99 per week or $39.99 for a one-year subscription. However, the first two weeks will be free thanks to a sponsorship deal with Verizon.
So, now that it’s finally here, who’s going to buy it?

Nerds everywhere thought we could rest easy after years of contemplation and speculation as to who the next villain[s] would be in the Nolan’s third Batman film, and who they’d be played by.
Not long ago, we got word that Selena Kyle would be the film’s main villain, played by Anne Hathaway. Also joining the film would be Inception star Tom Hardy as the secondary villain Bane. Now the door of mystery has opened up once again as Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to play yet another mysterious role in the film.
From Deadline.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I’m not sure what role he’ll play, but I’m told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring.

Mike Leigh’s newest, Another Year, opens with a bit of a red herring, if so we may call the grim visage of the stonily unhappy Janet (played by frequent Leigh collaborator Imelda Staunton, star of Vera Drake). For a minute it looks as though we’re doomed to two hours stomping through the misery of Janet’s life, which she ranks at her counselor’s probing as a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 for happiness. And lord knows, such a film would be no surprise from Leigh.
But thankfully, we never see or hear of Janet again, and the life we stay with and get to visit, at seasonal intervals over the length of a gently passing year, is that of Gerri, the sympathetic yet clear-eyed counselor, and her genial geologist husband Tom. And gradually it dawns on one that Mike Leigh, who has certainly never shied from harsh story lines, has for this movie chosen that rarest and unlikeliest of subjects — that rarest of entities too — a happy and contented marriage.

Even if Hollywood has long wanted to remake John Woo’s classic and amazing 1989 action film The Killer, they haven’t been able to get it together yet and I wasn’t disappointed about that at all. However, it seems the project may finally get off the ground, unfortunately, and be headed to the big screen once again.
The announcement came yesterday from Essential Entertainment and Lion Rock Productions. The new film will be directed by John H. Lee (A Moment to Remember, Saying Good-bye, Oneday) and star Jung Woo-Sung (Reign of Assassins, The Good, The Bad, The Weird). John Woo and his producing partner Terrance Chang will produce the film so at least Woo will be around to offer some measure of quality control. Other cast is expected to be announced soon.
While I may not be thrilled at the prospect of yet another classic film being given the remake treatment, I can at least take comfort in the knowledge that it will be in 3D. Yes, you heard that right, this remake of The Killer will be given the 3D treatment. Oh wait, that’s not a comfort at all . . . that sucks.
Check out the full press release about this project after the jump. Expect the remake later this year.

You read that headline right folks. The moment you’ve all been waiting for is here. The Call of Duty: Black Ops new map pack, known as “First Strike”, has arrived and lo it is good.
As our own John Carle told you about before, the map pack contains some new goodness including four traditional multiplayer maps as well as one additional Zombie mode map. While no information was given on the Zombie map other than its name, Ascension, now that the map pack is available we will know a whole lot more very shortly.
Kowloon takes place in a revamped layout of the Kowloon single player level. Discovery takes place in an arctic research lab and shows what may be Call of Duty’s first steps towards destructible environments. Berlin Wall features a great design choice with the inclusion of a no man’s land. In this area, players can quickly get across the map but this time there isn’t much fear of other players.
Finally, Stadium seems to be the most traditional of the maps. In it, players will be more focused on pure classic strategy using a level’s design and tight corners as a way to ambush opponents.
The “First Strike” map pack is available now. To the XBox 360!

Oh AT&T, will the complaints against you never cease. What’s going on now? A new lawsuit has been filed in a federal court in California alleging that AT&T regularly and purposely overcharges iPhone and iPad customers on capped data plans by inflating the amount of data they download to their devices.
Patrick Hendricks, who filed the lawsuit, contends that AT&T adds “phantom traffic” to its invoices in order to overcharge users. Says Hendricks in his complaint:
“AT&T’s billing system for iPhone and iPad data transactions is like a rigged gas pump that charges for a full gallon when it pumps only nine-tenths of a gallon into your car’s tank.”
Apparently, Hendricks isn’t just speculating with his lawsuit. Instead, he and his lawyers hired a consulting firm to investigate and it apparently determined that AT&T regularly inflates data usage by between 7% and 14%. In addition, on some occasions, the carrier actually inflates data usage by as much as 300%. Huh, that seems a bit excessive, doesn’t it?
Of course, in a statement to Computerworld, AT&T said it would fight the lawsuit “vigorously.” Did you think they wouldn’t? Okay, informal poll time. Do you feel AT&T charges for data fairly or do you think they don’t and this lawsuit will expose them for the cheaters they are?
Sound off in the comments.

We all love LEGO. Everybody grew up with them, so they all hold a special place in our collective hearts. Except for those who grew up with Mega Bloks, but nobody liked those kids growing up anyway.
The world of LEGO has been celebrated more lately as franchises like LEGO Batman and LEGO Star Wars have taken over our consoles. Now we get even more of this fully manifested world as one cinema fan has captured some of our favorite Oscar nominated films and turned them into LEGO.
The remade scenes come from LEGO artist Alex Eylar, who has tons of creations over at MOCPaged. This site is completely dedicated to people making stuff out of their favorite LEGOs so it’s particularly awesome.
While you try to ponder that business model, take a look at some of our favorite Oscar nominated scenes after the jump and comment with guesses on which films these scenes are inspired from. Good luck!

In the past five years, Carla Gugino has solidified herself in just about every fanboy’s fantasies as a favorite. From Sin City to Watchmen, comic fans everywhere have salivated over the actress for quite some time now. Now they have a bit more to salivate over during her latest role . . . as a porn star.
Here’s the full breakdown for the film Elektra Luxx, which is a sequel to 2009′s Women in Trouble.
Recently retired from the adult film industry, superstar Elektra Luxx (Carla Gugino) is pregnant with the child of late rock star Nick Chapel. She is trying to make ends meet by teaching a community college sex education class aimed at housewives when a figure from her past, flight attendant Cora (Marley Shelton), approaches her with a proposition.
In exchange for the (stolen) lyrics to Nick Chapel’s last record, all of which is about Elektra, Cora needs Elektra to seduce her fiancee. Elektra reluctantly agrees to do this favor, setting in motion a series of hilarious events which will see her come face to face with detectives, sex bloggers, emotionally unstable neighbors and the Virgin Mary herself as she wrestles with the prospect of motherhood and tries to become a person of substance.
We’ve got a full trailer for the film which you can check out after the jump. Elektra Luxx hits theaters on March 11th. Also, check out our interview with Elektra Luxx director Sebastian Gutierrez for more on the film.
