This week, we’ve been bringing you lots of goodies from the release of Zombieland on DVD and Blu-Ray. Since the DVD comes out today, we thought we’d put up two fun featurettes from the release, after giving you two deleted scenes yesterday.
In the first featurette, we go behind the scenes to see how they made their zombies look so realistic in the film. Actress Amber Heard (Pineapple Express) gets to sit in the make-up chair for hours before shooting in order to get her “zombification” just right. Also, we take a look at how some of the extras got to look so undead.
In the second featurette, stars Abigail Brezlin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Emma Stone (The Rocker) get to see one of the first zombies getting made up for the film. Abigail then decides to go on a mission to convince the filmmakers to let her be a zombie, just once.
Check out the features after the jump, and be sure to pick up Zombieland on DVD and Blu-Ray today.

The Stepfather is a remake of a 1987 movie that starred Terry O’Quinn (Lost) as a deranged man looking for the perfect family. Of course, no such thing exists, and when a family doesn’t live up to his impossibly high standards, they meet a most unfortunate demise. He then disguises himself, moves to a new city, and sets up the cycle once again.
In this updated version, director Nelson McCormick (Prom Night 2008) tries to coax scares from the premise once again, but the movie too often wanders into camp (unintentionally, I’m sure).
Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck) steps into the stepfather shoes as David, and unfortunately, he is about as menacing as a teddy bear. I like Walsh, but I have the same problem when they try to make him do something deviant on Nip/Tuck, I just don’t buy it. That is not to say he is a bad actor, I just think they should have cast someone a little creepier. When Walsh tries to flick back and forth between normal and psycho during the movie, it elicited more giggles than scares.
Sela Ward (stunning at 53, we should all be so lucky) plays Susan, the most clueless, desperate woman in recent memory. Freshly divorced, she meets David in a grocery store and promptly asks him out. They have a whirl-wind romance, and within six months are engaged, much to displeasure of Susan’s teen-aged son Michael (Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgely) who is home from military school.

It takes a lot to be a horror fan. We suffer indignities that other film fans wouldn’t dream of. Genre films are seldom screened for press, leading to frantic scrambling to get a seat at a midnight showing so that we can have that review up and ready for you, dear readers, on opening day. Regular critics scoff at our genre, and often can’t be bothered with it at all. So it rests upon those of us who are true lovers of the genre to keep you abreast of the happenings in horror-land.
Adding to my general frustration with the powers that be is the mishandling of three recent films in particular. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Trick ‘r Treat, and Paranormal Activity have all gotten a rotten distribution deal in one way or another. I asked Scott Weinberg, Managing Editor of Cinematical and Editor of Horror Squad if he was surprised that all three of these got shelved after they received good festival buzz. ”Annoyed, yes. Surprised, no. Every distributor seems to want a ‘break-out’ horror flick, but few know what to do with it once they get one,” he said
So here is the rundown on these three films.

We here at The Flickcast have been pretty vocal about our love of all things zombie, so it only makes sense for us to swoon over new footage of this Fall’s horror comedy Zombieland starring Jessie Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson. Now hitting the web is a new swear-tastic “Redband” trailer with slightly more footage.
Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, (who’s claim-to-fame is creating the reality-tv parody The Joe Shmoe Show) and directed by Ruben Fleischer (who directed 3 episodes of The Jimmy Kimmel Show), the film focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Check out the new trailer after the jump, which has slightly more footage, and much more zombie-goodness.
The film stars Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone’s (Superbad) and Abigail Breslin’s (Little Miss Sunshine) and is said to be “Hollywood’s answer to Shaun of the Dead”, but will probably shake that stereotype once we finally see it on the big screen October 9th.
Check out all the “Redband” zombie action after the jump.
