This is going to be a very difficult review. There is some splendid music on the album, and it plays well within the context of the film.
Ah, but it isn’t that easy, this isn’t just some film. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 is the final chapter in a generational defining cultural goliath, for over a decade the story of the boy who lived has captivated the world. The score as it plays in the film is enhanced by cues from the past, making the music in this movie a more complex, and ultimately satisfying, adventure.
Alexandre Desplat had a very difficult task when he came on board for the final two movies. The series started on the strength of the maestro, John Williams, who wrote amazing themes that stand up to this day.
Then came Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper who both valiantly contributed to the franchise, but even then those talented composers came under fire for not having the same magical quality of Williams. Desplat brings the biggest pedigree since Williams left and brought with him huge expectations for an epic sound, does he deliver in the climax?

As this weekend marks the start of one of the biggest blockbuster years the domestic box office has seen in years, one movie will hands down be in the top five when it comes to financial pull. That film, of course, is Warner Bros’ final film in the Harry Potter franchise.
Set to hit theaters in the US on July 15th, this is said to be (by those who read the book) the most action-packed of the Harry Potter films. Here’s the official synopsis.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts.
In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort.
It all ends here.
Intense enough for you? If not, you will certainly be blown away after checking out the very first trailer after the jump. It all begins there.

It’s been a long, dry summer with no Harry Potter trailers to carry us fans through until we can watch this fall’s big finale of the long-running franchise. With the November 2010 release of part one of the long-awaited conclusion approaching rapidly, it was exciting news indeed to see that Warner Bros has released a brand-new Harry Potter trailer. Featuring plenty of footage from part 1 of the ‘Deathly Hallows,’ the trailer really sets the stage for Harry’s big conclusion.
As you may know, the final installment of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has been broken up into two parts for movie-going audiences. Part 1 will premiere November 19th and Part II will open next year on July 15, 2011. Both parts are directed by David Yates, the same directer of Order of the Phoenix and the Half Blood Prince.
Part 1 continues the saga of Harry, Ron and Hermione as they pursue what seems like an inevitable and ultimate show-down with Voldemort. The Death Eaters vigorously search for Harry with orders to bring him back to Voldemort alive.
Without the protection of Professor Dumbledore or any of Hogwart’s professors, the trio must rely on each other more than ever as they search for the Horcruxes, Voldemort’s secret devices that maintain his immortality. As the three old chums search for clues, Harry uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale–the legend of the Deathly Hallows.
Part 1 of Deathly Hallows seeks to deal, once and for all, with Harry and his nemesis and their intertwining fates.
Hit the jump to watch the new theatrical trailer for yourself.

With Avatar getting nine Academy Award nominations yesterday, it seemed to put the final nail in the coffin for any films on the bubble between 2D and 3D. Word is now coming in that Warner Bros. has confirmed both Clash of the Titans and the final two Harry Potter films will be in 3D.
This isn’t that big of a deal for the Potter films, but unfortunately sets the entire marketing plan for Titans upside down. This news means that the studio has to go back and convert the original film stock into something that can handle 3D, while still looking state-of-the art.
This conversion will set the release date of Clash of the Titans back to April 2nd, from it’s original date of March 26th. The studio seems convinced that this is the best plan of action, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as ‘The Polar Express,’ select scenes in ‘Superman Returns’ and the last two Harry Potter films,” Warners domestic distribution boss Dan Fellman said.
“We’re excited about 3D and look forward to bringing a rich, involving visual experience to audiences around the world,” Warners film group president Jeff Robinov said.
The production on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 are still ongoing, which means that the respective release dates of November 19th and July 15th, 2011 will probably remain unchanged.
