Dinobots Trailer Reveals Origins in ‘Transformers: Fall of Cybertron’

by John Carle, May 24 2012 // 12:30 PM

Since their announcement in the upcoming Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Transformers purists have debated how the Dinobots would fit into the G1 canon storyline for the game. As stated in our previous post which revealed Grimlock in combat and Slug, Snarl and Swoop’s designs, the Dinobots were created on planet earth in the cartoon. Now, High Moon Studios has taken a step in ret-conning Transformers history along with Hasbro by retelling the origin story of the Dinobots in a different way.

As seen below, the game’s director Matt Tieger talks about the process of rewriting history with Hasbro’s blessing and reveals the new origin to the Dinobots for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Original a crack special ops unit, the group falls victim to the experiments of Decepticon mad scientist Shockwave. Using a connection to earth (I won’t spoil the whole video for you), Shockwave creates the new designs for the Dinobots.

Take a look below and make sure to give your thoughts on the Dinobots and their new origin story. Stick to The Flickcast for more on the Dinobots and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron before it launches late August of this year for XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

New Screens for ‘Transformers: Fall of Cybertron’ Reveal Slug, Snarl and Swoop

by John Carle, Apr 26 2012 // 7:15 AM

Grimlock. Slag. Snarl. Swoop. Sludge. These are the names of the infamous Dinobots that many of us grew up loving. Having these toys made your Transformers collection the envy of any of your friends. And even though Slag has undergone a slight name change to Slug because of the offensive British slang, the fan favorites continue to make their way to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

In the most recent set of screen shots from High Moon Studios, we get to see more of Grimlock in action as well as the reveal of three more Dinobots: Slug, Snarl and Swoop. Still missing so far is Sludge, the robotic Apatosaurus. Slug is seen below in both his robot and Triceratops dinosaur mode as is Swoop who appears in both robotic and pterodactyl modes. Snarl can also be seen below but only in his stegosaurus dinosaur mode. What impact these modes will have on gameplay is still up for discussion and debate as it hasn’t been revealed fully which of the Dinobots, aside from Grimlock, will be playable characters or if they will just be NPCs alongside the player.

Check out the full gallery of screens after the jump and stay tuned to the Flickcast for more on the Dinobots and all news Transformers: Fall of Cybertron including the reveal of Sludge and the Combaticons in the near future. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is set to come out in late August for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

First ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon: The Game’ Teaser Trailer and Screens

by John Carle, Feb 15 2011 // 12:00 PM

Last year, High Moon Studios proved that they understand the Transformers license. After years of bad games and Michael Bay’s “vision” raping the childhood memories of longtime Transformers fans, Transformers: War for Cybertron brought players back to the story they wanted with the Transformers G1 universe.

Now, High Moon Studios will attempt the improbable, turning a good game for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 out of the Michael Bay Transformers movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Behaviour Studios will be tackling three distinctly different versions of the game as well for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS.

“We couldn’t be more excited to expand on the epic movie universe in the Transformers: Dark of the Moon game, and allow fans to experience the gripping events and backstories that occur right before the upcoming film,” said Paul Wright, Head of Marketing for Licensed Properties, Activision Publishing.

“The immensely talented group at High Moon Studios are huge fans of the property, and they are thrilled to unveil some new characters from the movie while introducing Stealth Force gameplay that lets players convert to a third form beyond robot and vehicle modes to defeat their enemies in more ways than ever before.”

Game Review: ‘James Bond 007: Blood Stone’ for XBox 360

by John Carle, Nov 18 2010 // 8:00 AM

November 2nd marked an important day in video games, the return of James Bond to video games, not just with Goldeneye but the newest edition and 24th Bond game made with James Bond 007: Blood Stone. With Goldeneye on its way, Blood Stone fell under the radar for most approaching its release. Unfortunately compared to its Wii counterpart, Blood Stone falls somewhat short of expectations and falls into the territory of being an average third person cover based shooter.

Gameplay:

James Bond 007: Blood Stone’s action consists of two main gameplay types. The first and most widely used is the third person shooter. Players use a basic cover mechanic to pop out from behind walls and bunkers to take out oncoming foes. The shooting is fairly accurate and the autolock often aims are opponents bodies making players use some degree of twitch skill to move in to a head shot. Unfortunately, these head shots don’t always register as well as they should, even with the most accurate of guns.

Even on the Agent (normal) difficulty, some foes who are not wearing protective headgear or are shot right in the face take multiple shots to bring down. In a realistic setting (i.e. not zombies, superheroes or space aliens), this definitely pulls a player out of the game as they wonder what adamantium skull must be taking this kind of punishment. While the pop in and out shooting can be fun for some time, it does begin to get slightly repetitive as the enemy AI doesn’t effectively use cover to draw the player into a vulnerable position.

New ‘James Bond 007: Blood Stone’ Istanbul Trailer Hits The Web

by John Carle, Aug 27 2010 // 9:00 AM

With only a few short months until it’s release, hype is building strong for the next 007 game. Piggybacking on the excitement of the upcoming Goldeneye revamp, James Bond 007: Blood Stone takes Bond through a new adventure in the realm of the Daniel Craig version of the character. Though not considered Bond canon, many are viewing the game as a replacement for the recent Bond movie that has been postponed indefinitely.

At Comic Con,  we got the chance to see a play through of one of the game’s early levels. Now, Activision has released a new trailer which showcases the game’s Istanbul level. Thought it is hard to tell from what we have seen so far just what the full story of the game is, it looks like Bond will be traveling far and wide across an array of locations.

Also included in this post are a group of screen shots showing a frozen tundra and shantytown village along with one of the game’s amazing explosions. Take a peek at everything and obviously stick close to the Flickcast for all your news on James Bond 007: Blood Stone as it becomes available.

New Developer Video For ‘Transformers: War for Cybertron’

by John Carle, Mar 16 2010 // 10:00 AM

Despite the monetary success, those closest to the original Transformers consider Michael Bay’s work on the movie franchise nothing short of abomination. Just hearing the word can now send a shiver down our spines as so much of our childhood was violated by his racism filled robotic romp.

Hearing there was going to be a new Transformers game brought us that same feeling. However, there was a shining light coming through the clouds, as bright as the AllSpark, when it was announced that the upcoming Transformers: War for Cybertron would be based on the original G1 universe.

Not only would Transformers: War of Cybertron take place in the most beloved of Transformers canon, but it would fill in the blanks for many fans of the series. All under the watchful gaze of franchise creators Hasbro, High Moon Studios has put together the pieces of what happened during the civil war between Autobot and Decepticon before the two factions found themselves warring on earth. In the video after the jump, it is obvious that High Moon Studios shares the affinity for Transformers Generation One that Michael Bay looked over.

Published by Activision, Transformers: War for Cybertron will come out for the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and the PC in May of this year. Click through to take a look at what is in store for longtime and newfound fans of the Transformers.

First ‘Transformers: War for Cybertron’ Game Trailer

by Joe Gillis, Jan 13 2010 // 2:00 PM

transformers-war-for-cybertron-render

Even with all the movie and TV news we do around here, we also love us some games — especially when those games tie into a movie. Case in point is the upcoming game from Activision and High Moon Studios: Transformers: War for Cybertron. In case you’re not familiar, the game features two distinct storylines: the Autobot campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds, and the Decepticon campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe.

You will also be able to “play the game with friends through team-based online co-op, or go head to head in a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes.” In addition, the game “features a sci-fi art style that introduces to fans the entire living, metallic world of Cybertron, as well as all-new visualizations of the iconic Transformers characters in their original Cybertronian forms.” I don’t know about you but I think that sounds pretty awesome. The trailer isn’t bad either.

Transformers: War for Cybertron is in development and will be released later this year for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC and DS.

Check out the brand new trailer after the jump.
