In disappointing news for all the Bioshock fans out there, it looks like the film adaptation of the popular video game series is once again on the shelf. The film has run into many difficulties since day one securing the desired budget and creative control that a project like this would need. Gore Verbinski was set to produce with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct, but it appears the helmer may no longer be on the project.
According to director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, he has completely left the Bioshock adaptation due to the drawn out process of getting this film off the ground
“To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff,” Fresnadillo said. “Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the video game company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.”

You know how we generally feel about reboots and remakes around here. I’ll spare you the long version and just say we’re not usually a fan of them. Naturally, when we heard about a remake of the semi-classsic 1986 sci-fi fantasy film Highlander, we were skeptical to say the least.
However, a new development may just change our attitude. According to the distributor of the new film, as reported by Deadline, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is the pick to take the helm of the reboot. Here’s the statement (at least part of it) telling us just that:
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct Summit Entertainment’s re-imagination of the cult film Highlander co-financed by RCR Media Group. Summit’s HIGHLANDER is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Mortiz and Peter Davis will produce the project along with Enrique López Lavigne and Belen Atienza. Production on the film is slated to begin spring of 2012.
In HIGHLANDER, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the Prize.
In case you can’t figure out why we many be giving this one the benefit of the doubt (at least for now), you need to keep in mind that Fresnadillo directed 28 Weeks Later, which is very good, as well as the recent Intruders, which is getting great buzz and premiering at the Toronto Film Festival.

We here at The Flickcast are all but shocked when we hear about this thing or that getting rebooted or remade. Sadly, we were a little bit surprised when news came that 1986′s Highlander is getting a fancy Hollywood facelift, and even has a director and producer attached.
Distributor Summit Entertainment is going forward with the reboot of the film, hiring the team of Justin Lin to direct and Neal H. Moritz to produce. The team was also behind Fast and Furious, which was one of the bigger film of the year, and the highest grossing title of the year for Universal Pictures.
Summit has had great success so far with the adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series (with New Moon hitting theaters this November). According to Variety this may be the birth of another franchise for the company:
Summit plans to expand on the original “Highlander” premise of immortals hunting each other through the ages. The new pic will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize.

Any real fan of film lives with a certain curse. When you go to see a movie and the whiny-yet-lovable main character switches between a green shirt and a red shirt in the middle of a scene, it can drive you mad. You saw it, but none of the other people in the theater did. Thankfully MovieMistakes.com was created to keep your sanity intact by showing you that folks like McG and Ron Howard aren’t perfect.
The site was created to help see the flaws in some of our favorite (or least favorite) films. Mostly, it can be used as an educational tool, but it’s also good to see how bad a really bad movie is. For example, a film as recent as Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight has 79 total mistakes, and once you read them, you may not see the movie in the same light again.
