Toy Fair 2011 Show Floor Pics Gallery

by John Carle, Feb 15 2011 // 7:30 AM

It’s that time of year again when we all gather together to see our loved ones… that’s right. The Con season has begun. Whether it’s SXSW, Toy Fair, C2E2 or Comic Con in San Diego, if you are a reader (or writer) of the Flickcast, it’s likely you are going to end up at least one, if not all, of the Cons this season. Our first one up on the east coast is Toy Fair. Now while Toy Fair isn’t open to the general public, we made sure to get in and get a peek at some of the hottest new toys of the season.

We got to take a peek at the new models for the Walking Dead action figures alongside our friends from MTV Splashpage as the legendary Todd McFarlane himself explained how the zombie bodies will literally explode in the customer’s hands. We can’t wait to see the final versions in action.

There was a plethora of Green Lantern merchandise that we were unfortunately unable to snag pictures of as well as the brand new Thundercats line which is coming out soon. We were able to sneak a few pictures though of some of the Mezco Green Lantern products though.

The video game world was represented strong with Sonic The Hedgehog, Halo, Deus Ex, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy and Little Big Planet. Activision also announced to the world Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure for the Wii where toys and video games come together in a very interesting new way. Check back later this week for a full post including video of the product in action.

Check out all of our pics from Toy Fair below and keep checking back this week for more from the show (including an appearance on this week’s podcast discussing it with Matt and Chris)!

Marvel Costume Packs Coming to ‘Little Big Planet’ July 7th

by John Carle, Jun 28 2010 // 9:00 AM

According to the Little Big Planet website,  the worlds of Marvel and Little Big Planet will be colliding on July 7th. Starting on that day and continuing each week, there will be four costume packs for a total of 20 of Marvel’s greatest heroes and most despised villains.

It hasn’t been revealed which characters will be getting paired up for the packs as of yet. It is possible that they may be grouped by team such as an Avengers or X-Men pack or it may be a complete free for all where players can get Captain America, The Punisher and the Human Torch all in one oddball purchase.

In addition, there will be a Marvel Level Kit which contains four missions pitting the Sackboys and Sackgirls against Magneto. Beating these four stages will unlock Marvel music, objects stickers and a “Rooftop” background for your own level creations.

First Trailer for ‘LittleBigPlanet 2′ Hits the Web

by Matt Raub, May 11 2010 // 12:00 PM

Back in 2008, Playstation 3′s LittleBigPlanettook took the world by storm with it’s innovative gameplay and ability to essentially create your own video game to share and challenge other players across the globe.

The plot of the game was pretty simple: you’re a tiny sock character who goes through a gigantic world, solving puzzles, uncovering secrets, and collecting points to buy more add-ons. The true beauty of the game lied with the ability to create full levels and set them loose in the real world for other people to try out and play. The game sold nearly 500,000 copies between the US and UK alone, making it one of the highest grossing PS3 games of all time.

Now, barely2 years later, Media Molocule is doing it again, but this time on an even bigger scale, with LittleBigPlanet 2.The new game boasts itself as a “Platform for Games” as opposed to the first being a platformer. The game is said to be 100% backwards compatible with the first game, giving players complete run of over 2 million user-created levels.

The game is on a much larger scale, and upgrades the customization feature nearly 4-fold. The ability to create non-playable AI characters in each of your custom levels is a new feature as well as millions of new additions to the original list of customizable options. Fans can now also compose their own score and play director with a new film-shooting feature.

Take a look at the brand new trailer for LittleBigPlanet after the jump, featuring an awesome tune from Passion Pit, and keep it here as we bring you more news leading up to it’s release later this year.

‘Little Big Planet’ To Offer Watchmen Costumes

by Matt Raub, Sep 29 2009 // 2:30 PM

Picture 1Little Big Planet is one of those games that PS3 owners love to go gaga for, but anybody who doesn’t own one, doesn’t understand it’s allure. It has been called one of the top adventure games of the year, and easily one of the highest grossing PS3 exclusive games to date, and news like today’s is only further reason.

For those unaware, Little Big Planet is about an 8-centimeter hero who travels through a world we never see, due to the fact that it’s so small. The sack-boy gets into side-scrolling adventures left and right and with your help, makes it out alive. One of the most intriguing things about LBP is the how deep you can customize your character. there are thousands of costumes and add-ons in the game, with more and more being released through downloadable content.

It was just announced that a new, geek-friendly set of costumes will be coming to PS3 this Thursday, in a set of Watchmen costumes. From here, you can choose to dress as lil’ Roarschach, lil’ Ozzy, lil’ Silk Spectre, and lil’ Night Owl. No word on whether we’ll see tiny Doc Manhattan, but this is still a pretty cool add-on to an already in-depth game. Those who follow the developer blog at littlebigplanet.com know that the creators are such big fans, that they even created a level based on San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Check out the full picture of the Watchmen costume kit after the jump, along with a super brief intro video showing you what they look like next to giant-sized Manhattan.
