First Trailer for ‘Rock of Ages’ Movie Adaptation Hits the Web

by Matt Raub, Dec 14 2011 // 7:30 AM

With Glee going strong on Fox, The Muppets sweeping across the country, and everyone up to their ears with Christmas song, the last thing anyone wants is yet another dose of musical. And that’s just what they’re getting!

The first trailer for the star-studded film adaptation of the Broadway hit Rock of Ages is finally here, and has plenty of Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Tom Cruise for you to shake a stick at.

For those who haven’t heard of this phenomenon that swept the east coast, here’s the premise:

“Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.

Plenty of rock covers, and even more recognizable faces. Take a look at the trailer after the jump, and catch Rock of Ages in theaters on June 1st.

Adult Swim Gives ‘Children’s Hospital’ a Fourth Season

by Joe Gillis, Aug 16 2011 // 4:00 PM

Good news everyone. Well, good news for those of you who are fans of Children’s Hospital. Good, I see some hands there.

As you can probably discern from the title of this post, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has decided to renew Rob Corddry’s comedy series Childrens Hospital for a fourth season. Thr show will get a 14-episode order for that new season.

This is good news, at least to us, as we’re big fans of the show. It’s been steadily funny this entire season so far and, according to reports, is doing well in the ratings.

I guess that’s one of the reasons Cartoon Network decided to bring it back for another season. Smart of them, I say. Production will begin later this year for a 2012 premiere.

In addition to Corddry, the series co-stars Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally and Henry Winkler. It airs Thursday nights at midnight on Cartoon Network.

Film Review: ‘Elektra Luxx’

by Shannon Hood, Mar 8 2011 // 12:00 PM

In 2009, director Sebastian Gutierrez debuted a film called Women in Trouble at SXSW Film Festival. That film featured several women whose story-lines converged throughout the film, and it  became a cult classic of sorts. Elektra Luxx is the sequel to that film, and features several returning cast members.

Carla Gugino plays the title character, who is newly retired from the porn industry. She’s also pregnant, and the baby daddy  is recently deceased.  What’s a single sex siren to do?  Elektra shows some ingenuity and starts teaching some sex classes at the local community college for income. She struggles with insecurity about her pregnancy and the end of her career.

Things become further complicated when Elektra is visited by Cora (Marley Shelton), who has an unexpected and troubling connection to her deceased ex-boyfriend.  Cora asks Elektra to seduce her fiance. In exchange, Cora will give Elektra a set of song lyrics that Elektra’s musician boyfriend wrote about Elektra. A madcap series of events ensues when Elektra seduces the wrong person.

Interview: Producer Jon Stern Talks ‘Childrens Hospital’

by Douglas Barnett, Oct 15 2010 // 9:00 AM

Back at San Diego Comic-Con, we got the opportunity to sit down with most of the cast from Adult Swim’s newest addition to their late night lineup, in Rob Corddry’s Childrens Hospital.

While we got to speak with most of the people from the talent side of CH, we didn’t get to hear from the producers who were behind the process that brought this killer show to Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.

At New York Comic-Con, we got the chance to sit down with executive producer Jon Stern and he gave us the inside scoop on how exactly the show came to be the fantastic televised sitcom that it has become today.

Check out the full interview after the jump!

SXSW Interview: ‘Elektra Luxx’ Director Sebastian Gutierrez

by Chris Ullrich, Mar 25 2010 // 9:00 AM

I first became aware of director Sebastian Gutierrez when I watched one of his first films, She Creature. I’ve followed his career since that time and watched most of his other movies with interest. His latest, Elektra Luxx, the sequel to his ealier film Women In Touble, chronicles the exploits of former porn star trying to change her life now that she’s discovered she’s going to be a mother.

I caught up with Gutierrez during the recent SXSW Film Festival where his film screened to a packed audience, not once, but twice. Here’s what he had to say about the film, his creative process and working with his movie star wife Carla Gugino.

The Flickcast: This film is a sequel of sorts to your earlier film Women in Trouble, correct? Was your plan always to make a sequel to that film? I also heard you are actually going for a trilogy, correct?

Sebastian Gutierrez: Yes, it’s a trilogy. We felt that Star Wars, LOTR, etc. shouldn’t be the only stories allowed to spread out over three movies and thought we’d compete with them.

TF: If you had to tell someone who had never seen Women In Trouble what Elektra Luxx is about, what would you tell them?

SG: It’s about one day in the life of a recently retired pornstar as she tries to make it in the straight world.

TF: How did you approach making the film? Was their a complete script or was some of the film improvised?

Review: ‘Couples Retreat’

by Shannon Hood, Oct 9 2009 // 9:15 AM

Picture 3

Looking for some highbrow comedy? Keep on looking. If you loved the trailer for this movie, go watch it again. There, now you know the entire plot and you have seen all the funny parts of the film. I  just saved you an hour and 47 minutes and at least ten bucks. You’re welcome.

It’s not that this is a terrible film, it just doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Couple’s Retreat tries to be the rom-com version of  The Hangover, and fails. The laughs are there, but they are anemic at best and spread too thin over a far too long running time.

Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen Bell) are a tightly wound yuppie couple who pull their friends aside at a child’s birthday party and ask them to attend a quick presentation. Believing that they are going to see another power point presentation about testicular cancer prevention, the friends are stupefied when the couple announces that they are considering a divorce. Seems a year of fertility issues has taken a toll on the couple, and they are ready to part ways.

First Trailer for ‘Couples Retreat’ Online

by Matt Raub, Jul 1 2009 // 10:30 AM

couplesposter1As it’s released with prints of Public Enemies, the first trailer for the new Universal comedy starring Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, and Jon Favreau has hit the web. The film is about four couples that are having trouble staying afloat, so they all decide to take a vacation to a wacky tropical island filled with wackier people to help make their relationships work. Laughing yet?

The trailer doesn’t make the film look very good, which isn’t surprising since its the same team that brought us 2006′s The Break Up and 2008′s Four Christmases. The film is directed by Peter Billinglsy, long-time friend of Favreau’s, but we know him more as Ralphie from 1983′s A Christmas Story. Overall, the film kind of looks like a less fun, over 30 version of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Couples Retreat also stars Kristen Bell, Malin Ackerman, Faizon Love, and Kristen Davis and will hit theaters October 9 of this year. Check out the trailer after the jump.
