With Comic-Con only about a week away expect lots more announcements of events, panels, signings and more over the next several day. This time around its the folks at Dark Horse Comics with the announcement.

They’ve got a whole bunch of events planned for Comic-Con including stuff at their booth, panels in various Con rooms and a green screen full of exciting showings.

If you’ve been following the saga of a group of ragtag survivors agains seemingly overwhelming alien invaders, aka Falling Skies, then you’re going to be happy about this news. TNT has ordered a second season of the show.

Coming from Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV, the show premiered last month with 8 Million viewers, making it cable’s top series launch of the year. Since that time the series has averaged 6.4 Million viewers for its first three episodes and is attracting strong ratings overseas as well.

The network has ordered 10 episodes for Season 2, which is slated to air in Summer 2012. Although that may not seem like a lot of episodes, it’s about average for basic cable.

Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle, Mood Bloodgood, Will Patton, Sarah Carter and Drew Roy. It airs Sundays at 10/9C on TNT.

Is ABC’s V not filling that alien invasion quota that you’ve gotten used to on TV as of late, then you’ll be happy to see that the grandfather of alien invasions, Steven Speilberg is now throwing his hat into the ring, and bringing us the brand new trailer for TNT’s Falling Skies.

Unlike V, this series focuses more on the human survivor element of an alien invasion. Consider it more like The Walking Dead of alien invasions. With that said, you’ll still get some sick four-legged aliens and giant robots, so don’t get disinterested just yet.

Serving to the inner nerd in all of us, TNT has even helped move the story along with an original web comic that will get you full inundated in the story by the time it premieres in June.

Fans of TV and sci-fi alone will get Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, and a cornucopia of character actors to instill that fear of the end of the world. Check out the full trailer after the jump.

Many things can be said about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his career choices, but if one thing is true, it’s that he’s not playing it safe. Much like countless action stars before him, he could have done a few franchise flicks, then stuck to something safe like Kindergarten Cop or The Pacifier, but instead, he’s returning to his bad ass roots with Faster.

Johnson made plenty of money with his two successful family films, Tooth Fairy and The Game Plan, but it looks like money isn’t all that matters, as the newest trailer for Faster just hit, and there is no way this film can be construed as “family friendly”

In the film, The Rock plays “Driver”, a man who sets out to take personal revenge on the bank robbers who killed his brother. The trail of bodies and adversaries that Driver comes across include names like Carla Gugino, Maggie Grace, Tom Berenger, Moon Bloodgood, and Billy Bob Thornton.

The film comes from director George Tillman Jr. (Notorious) and writers Joe Gayton (Bulletproof) and Tony Gayton (Murder By Numbers).With ths newest, hyper-violent red band trailer, this film could take the place of The Rundown as Johnson’s most intense action film.

TNT and Dark Horse Comics will be teaming up to produce a comic book and webcomic prequel to the upcoming Falling Skies television series.

Falling Skies is an upcoming series that will be produced by Dreamworks Television, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer.  The TNT series will star Noah Wyle (ER), and involves the aftermath of an alien invasion, with the hopes for  humanity resting  on a few survivors. It will debut in the Summer of 2011.

TNT and Dark Horse are distributing an exclusive, limited edition comic book that tells the back-story of the series during the New York Comic Con in October. Then, starting in November, fans can begin downloading an extending webcomic every two weeks, via iTunes, TNT.tv, or Darkhorse.com.

The comic and webcomic are a novel way to drum up early interest in the series prior to its debut.

In addition to Wyle, the series will star Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation), Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights), Maxim Knight (Brothers and Sisters), Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) and Will Patton (Armageddon.)  Wylie and Bloodgood will be signing autographs at the Dark Horse International booth at the San Diego Comic Con on Friday afternoon.

After some time spent in the “feel good” movies section, former wrestler turned actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back doing the kind of movie he does best: action. In the upcoming film Faster, directed by George Tillman Jr., Johnson plays an ex-con out for revenge. It seems his brother has been killed after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago.

During his quest, however, he’s tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man, both of whom have deadly agendas of their own. In the trailer we get to see Johnson is really back to form and looks like he’s kinda missed all the action. There’s no mistaking his enthusiasm and skill as an action star. Plus, the movie looks pretty good. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing more.

The film, which in addition to Johnson features Tom Berenger, Carla Gugino, Maggie Grace, Mood Bloodgood and Billy Bob Thornton, opens November 24. While we wait, check out the trailer after the jump.

TNT, the network known for its legal/detective dramas (including endless reruns of Law & Order), is now venturing into Sci-Fi with Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks on a series that will star Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood. The series, despite not yet having a name, has a pilot directed by Carl Franklin (Devil in A Blue Dress, Out of Time) — who is also working with Spielberg on episodes of the forthcoming WWII television mini-series The Pacific — and a story written by Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat.

Noah Wyle, who has become quite familiar with TNT through his numerous The Librarian TV Movies, will star as a professor that winds up in the rebellion against the alien invaders. Bloodgood, who really seems to have a taste for the genre with her past roles Terminator: Salvation and the “canceled too-soon” series Journey Man, will play a therapist that works with surviving children of the invasion.

Other names of cast members include Seychelle Gabriel (The Spirit, and M. Night Syamalan’s The Last Airbender), Jessy Schram (Life, Crash: The Series) and Drew Roy (Greek, Lincoln Heights). According to reports, the series opens shortly after aliens have wiped out most of humanity. The aliens are now rounding up the few people left, but they are met with strong resistance from a group of soldiers and civilians who fight for their survival – all while struggling to maintain their humanity.

The series is set to debut sometime in 2011.

With Black Friday sales behind us but with Christmas right around the corner, there’s still time to get some great movies on DVD and Blu-ray this holiday season. To help, here’s a list of some of the new movie and TV shows coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week that we’re looking forward to seeing. Also, there’s some classic, and not-so-classic, movies hitting Blu-ray for the first time.
