Channing Tatum as Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Will Arnett as Carrie. Cheech and Chong in Tron. These aren’t crazy casting nightmares, they’re episodes of Cinemash. What is Cinemash? It’s a new digital series by Mean Magazine in which they mash-up some classic films with actors nobody would ever expect to see. Actors like Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin) portraying Denzel Washington’s character from Training Day or Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia playing the main character in Oldboy.
The series started back in the beginning of July with 500 Days of Summer stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Cinemashing Sid and Nancy. No word on where the idea originally stemmed from, but Mean has done some interesting things with film over the years, including casting SNL’s BIll Hader as the lead in a spoof of Bad Lieutenant.
Some of the Cinemashes miss the mark or try a bit too hard. One of the best, by far, is with the select cast of Reno 911 and The Human Giant portraying the final scene from the surfing crime drama Point Break. The digital series has an exclusive deal with MSN and the Zune, which unfortunately means that we iTunes users don’t get to save the episodes to our iDevices.
Check out the Point Break video after the jump, and stay tuned for a new episode to hit each week.

The gang at Film School Rejects are the first out of the gate with the new poster for director Kathryn Bigelow’s (aka the ex Mrs. Jim Cameron) film The Hurt Locker. The new poster is big, bad, features helicopters and explosions and looks pretty darn cool. If you like the poster, also keep in mind the movie has been nominated for several awards at festivals and according to many critics, is a very good film.
In case you’re not familiar with The Hurt Locker, it follows an elite team of explosive ordinance disposal experts during the final months of their tour in the Iraq war. Things don’t go quite as expected, of course, as the team deals with new challenges, new conflicts and a new leader, in the form of the excellent Jeremy Renner. The film also features Ralph Fiennes, Evangeline Lilly, Guy Pearce, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty.
From what I’ve seen so far, this film looks impressive. The performances seems solid and Bigelow, who’s previous credits include Point Break, K19: The Widowmaker and one of my favorite vampire movies of all time, Near Dark, certainly knows her way around action. Put all that together and you’ve potentially got a very, ah, explosive mix which could result in quite a good film.
The Hurt Locker hits theaters on June 26, 2009 in limited markets. You can bet I’ll be there.
Check out the much bigger and more impressive poster after the break. Also, because I care about you, I’ve also included the trailer for the film as well.
