HBO Renews ‘True Blood’ For a Fifth Season

by Matt Raub, Aug 12 2011 // 7:00 AM

Loving the amnesia, ghost dad, and were-panther rape storylines happening in this season of True Blood? HBO thinks so, as they have officially OK’d a fifth season of the vampire-loving series based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

This season we have seen some pretty impressive story devices, from villification of our favorite characters to new love triangles to a few dead characters, the hits keep coming in the fourth season of this popular HBO series. Here’s what HBO has to say about bringing it back for another 12 episodes.

“I am thrilled that True Blood continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics,” says HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo. “Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV.”

Ball adds, “I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers. I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”

Check Out Previews for Sunday’s New Episode of ‘True Blood’

by Heather Toshiko, Jul 15 2011 // 3:00 PM

It’s Friday again so that means it’s time for previews of one of our favorite shows on TV: HBO’s True Blood. If you haven’t been watching True Blood, you’re really missing out on a great show full of drama, sex, violence, werwolves, shape shifters and, of course, vampires. The non-shimmering kind, thank goodness.

This time around we’ve got three, count ‘em, three previews for Sunday’s all-new episode. The episode, entitled “I’m Alive and on Fire”, continues the story of Bill’s reign as King of Louisiana, Eric’s memory problems, the witches that are starting to be a big problem and Sookie’s desperate attempts to just feel normal and have a regular life.

The clips, which are “Alcide comes to Sookie’s Aid”, “Bill Questions Pam” and “Marnie is asked to Reverse the Spell” are some good examples of the kind of drama this show entails. They don’t give away too much but just serve to whet your appetite for more. Of course, that’s just what they are intended to do right?

Check out all the videos after the break. True Blood airs Sunday at 9/8C on HBO.

Check Out Previews for Sunday’s New ‘True Blood’

by Joe Gillis, Jul 8 2011 // 3:56 PM

It’s Friday so that means it’s time for preview for one of our favorite shows. That’s right, we’ve got three new video previews for Sunday’s all-new episode of True Blood to share with you today.

Sunday’s episode, which is entitled I wanted “If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’?”, continues the saga of the denizens of Boin Temps, LA as they deal with the new threat in town, witches. Plus, the old threats are still very much alive, or rather not alive. You get the picture.

The three video clips, which have the titles “Crystal Comforts Jason,” “Tara and Lafayette Discuss Eric,” and “Bill Metes Out Punishment” are pretty self-explanatory and should go a long way to getting you psyched for the episode. Looks like a good one.

As an aside, it’s nice to see Tara not being such a victim this season. Apparently, learning MMA fighting and becoming a lesbian has done her some good. Let’s hope the trend continues.

See all the videos after the jump. True Blood airs Sunday at 9/8C on HBO.

New ‘True Blood’ Season Four Teaser Poster Arrives

by Joe Gillis, May 25 2011 // 7:00 AM

Fans of HBO’s gothic horror romance series True Blood have been patient. It’s been many months since they had a new episode of their favorite series. And sadly, even a cool comic book series can’t really fill the void between season completely. However, it looks like that patience is going to be rewarded soon.

That’s right, the world of vampires, werewolves, demons, magic and more is about to return to the airwaves with a brand new season. To start things off we’ve got a new teaser poster for season four to share with you today.

As with most posters of the taser variety, this one doesn’t tell us much about the new season. It does, however, at least mark the fact that a new season is coming and fans won’t have long to wait. That’s something, right?

Check out a larger version of the poster after the jump. True Blood returns Sunday, June 26th on HBO.

New ‘True Blood’ Comic Series On the Way

by Joe Gillis, Jan 6 2011 // 7:30 AM

If you can’t wait until the new season of True Blood starts again on HBO, at least there’s a little something to keep you occupied until then. What is this amazing thing that can entertain you and satisfy your thirst for new True Blood and the exploits of your favorite resident on Bon Temps, LA.

Why it’s a new True Blood comic book series from the folks at IDW. The followup to the already successful first round of True Blood comics, these new books spin a new tale. In them Jessica is exposed to contaminated bottles of Tru Blood, causing the lovely vampire to go berserk.

It’s up to Sookie, Bill and the others to figure out who (or what) is behind the bad Blood. In addition to Jessica, several other Bon Temp residents are making their comic book debut including Hoyt, Terry, Arlene and Steve Newlin.

Click through for the full press release and some art. Look for the new True Blood comic series to debut on February 23rd.

‘True Blood’ Graphic Novel Coming In February

by Joe Gillis, Nov 12 2010 // 2:00 PM

Have no fear fans of HBO’s vampire drama True Blood, the network won’t make you wait for a new season of the show without giving you something to occupy your time. In fact, HBO and our friends at IDW are going to be releasing a True Blood graphic novel to do just that.

The graphic novel, called True Blood, Vol.1: All Together Now, is a hard cover compilation of all six issues from the first comic book series. The graphic novel will feature a new cover and bonus content including sketches and a cover gallery.

In case you’re not familiar with the current comic, it debuted in July and was an instant hit, selling out the first two issues and going into multiple printings. With four issues released (and two more to go)…it has become the best selling title for IDW Publishing in their history. Nice.

The book will be released on February 8, 2011 and retail for $24.99. Be sure to check it out as its a great way to experience the comic without having to try and follow individual issues.

HBO Gives ‘True Blood’ A Fourth Season

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 21 2010 // 1:00 PM

With only two episodes aired for season three so far, HBO has already given the green light for a fourth season of Alan Ball’s vampire series True Blood. The announcement, given by HBO’s programing president Michael Lombardo, will give the series a new season of twelve episodes and follow the continuing adventures of your favorite residents of Bon Temps, LA.

The series, based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charliane Harris and featuring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard, had a very successful premiere episode and scored a 38% ratings increase over last year’s season two opener. Obviously, this was enough to convince HBO to give the show another season.

“The new season of True Blood is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics,” noted Lombardo.

This is great news for fans of the show (like me) and with the series going into some new and interesting directions so far this year, I can’t wait to see where it all ends up. The series will begin production of new episodes early next year in Los Angeles, with a season four debut set for summer 2011.
