The Flickcast – Epispde 93: Not So Wonder(ful) Woman

by Joe Gillis, Mar 31 2011 // 2:30 PM

This week on The Flickcast Chris and Matt have no guest and have to go it alone. Fortunately, that’s just what these two rogue adventurers love to do.

So, with that in mind, the discussion turns to topics including Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Green Lantern casting news and controversy, Natalie Portman’s, um, acting in Your Highness, AMC vs. Matt Weiner for the fate of Mad Men season five and the latest costume and potential fate of the new Wonder Woman TV series.

And for a third week running, no Charlie Sheen. We know you appreciate it. Gifts of cake are always appreciated.

Of course, your hosts also made some picks this week including Matt’s pick of Repo! A Genetic Opera (yep, you read that right) and Chris’ pick of the sadly short-lived Aaron Sorkin series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques, offers of sponsorship or whatever, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter, at Facebook and MySpace or via email.

Check Out 2 New Clips From Matthew Perry’s ‘Mr. Sunshine’

by Matt Raub, Jun 8 2010 // 3:00 PM

There are certainly a lot of new shows hitting both network and basic cable TV this Summer and Fall. Some that we’re pretty excited for, and some we can’t wait to miss (looking at you, The Cape). One of the shows that looks to have some promise is ABC’s upcoming half-hour comedy Mr. Sunshine.

The show stars Matthew Perry as Ben Donovan, a sports arena manager who goes through a mid-life crisis right after his 40th birthday, all while dealing with the oddball employees and demands that his job presents.

Helping out Perry is a pretty solid cast of TV regulars like West Wing favorite Allison Janney, Las Vegas’s Nate Torrence and James Lesure, Better Off Ted’s Andrea Anders, and even Portia Doubleday for good measure.

While the cast alone should be enough to get us excited, we’re more psyched by the fact that the show is being written by TV veteran Thomas Schlamme and Perry himself. Fans of Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip know that this team is quite impressive when at their peak, so we can’t wait to see more.

Check out two new clips and a sneak preview of the show after the jump, and stay with ABC this October, as Mr. Sunshine makes it’s debut.

Cortney’s TV Digest: Canceled – Volume 1

by Cortney Zamm, Jan 14 2010 // 12:00 PM

moonlight_cbs_tv_show_image__1_Every month, I bring you dedicated readers my favorite TV shows of the moment. And while I love reporting on the latest and greatest in TV Land, what is also just as important to me are the dozens of shows that were canceled before their time.

Whether the ratings were bad or the shows were too expensive, many of TV’s best and brightest have been taken off the air before they have a chance to flourish. But while these shows had their untimely demise, these articles should hopefully resurrect them, at least in the form of you watching them and thinking they’re awesome.

Moonlight

So the reviews weren’t great and the show only lasted a season. But had Moonlight premiered a year or two later, it would have been a smash hit. Why? Because it’s all about vampires, and whether it’s TV, movies, or books, vampires are the hottest thing in media right now.  And while competing with HBO’s hit True Blood and CW’s mediocre The Vampire Diaries wouldn’t be easy, it would have at least stood a chance.

Canceled after 2008′s Writers Guild of America strike, Moonlight centered around Mick St. John, who turned vampire after being bitten by his bride on their wedding night. Years later he works as a P.I., protecting humans while hunting down the vampires who harm them. The show feels like a cross between Veronica Mars and Supernatural, while still being as focused on romance as the shows that have followed it.
